  1. Hi Line 6 geniuses, I am in need of your expertise. Recently I purchased a Helix Rack to replace the Pod HD Pro. I'm having some trouble getting the tap tempo working from my pedalboard correctly. The pedalboard is a Fractal Audio MFC-101. Per the Helix user manual I have the tap tempo switch set to midi cc# 64 and on/off values of 127. I've tried on/off values of 64/64 and 64/127 as well but it just doesn't seem to be receiving the messages. All other midi controls are working (changing presets, enabling disabling blocks, volume control, tuner, etc.). Is there something in particular that I should be doing to set the tap tempo from a footswitch?
  2. hello, I'm pretty new to MIDI, but since I recently bought a KORG Volca Keys unit, I was wondering if I could use my Toneport KB37 as the MIDI controller for this device without first going through a computer? I'm asking because in all the forums and manuals it always mentions going through a computer, and of course the kb37 does not have the MIDI DIN connector. if I get a USB-MIDI converter cable (or SPDIF-MIDI??), can I just plug the kb37 into the Volca and have it work? what kind of cable do I need, in case it needs a special cable? and, you know: just all the other silly noob questions about (this) midi setup that you can think of... ;) thanks, Eric. PS: this is a video of the KORG Volca Keys with a midi keyboard setup, I'm looking for something similar, but with the KB37 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVTm0mT53fU
  3. Hi all Im trying to clock the Helix tempo (delays etc ) from an external midi clock source. .its IOS 11 on an IPAD pro using a yamaha MD-BT01 to receive midi at the Line 6 Helix Its wildly misinterpreting the tempos...... Here are some examples of SONG tempo set in Bandhelper vs what arrives in Helix, and it runs at when clocked by the external midi clock also the light on the helix which flashes in time, is VERY irregular under bandhelper midi clock BH HELIX 65 69 76 80 80 82 113 127 121 135 also tried sending Midi clock from MIDIFLOW app on IOS...same thing ! ...so it looks like the HELIX is misinterpreting the incoming midi clock tempo....bizarre! Does anyone have any clue what could be going on here? Thanks in advance Bill P
  4. I bought an HD 500 used and it worked fine for a few weeks. I installed the Line 6 POD HD500 edit software and it worked perfectly - I downloaded some patches and all was great - for a couple weeks. Then the looper seized. After a discussion with a reseller they suggested I do a factory reset. Hold the left arrow on the manual input button and then plug in the power. The factory reset worked fine. However, the manual screen (the save and view buttons were a little damaged but working) began to flicker and cycle through views. Needless to say I cannot modify anything with those buttons. Then with ideal bad luck, the USB port broke. I replaced that with the assistance of someone who knows how to do it but, the unit is not detected by the software. So, neither the manual edit functions nor the USB (and thus laptop editor functions) work and I am stuck with whatever effects come with the factory resetted unit and poor visibility on the display. I was wondering if I can connect through a laptop USB to the midi inputs to download patches etc. Anyone know if this will work or, if there is another thing to try? Is it possible to purchase the manual edit unit (the save/view button to the left and the screen). Or are these parts not available? Thanks all.
  5. I am using the Helix to control a bank of external pedals using the VooDoo Hex. I control the VooDoo Hex loops using CC messages. Of course, I can use the command center to do this, but manually assigning multiple channel / CC messages to control each loop for each snapshot (or foot controller) is tedious. I doubt live programming the Helix directly using an external app (midi or FBV) is easy (please tell me if I am wrong). Is there documentation on the .hlx JSON format? I could write an GUI editor to facilitate editing the .hlx files then upload to Helix with the Line 6 editor. I can try and use samples to reverse engineer, but it would be better to get official docs. thanks, mark
  6. I'm experiencing two issues in 2.53 that I'm pretty sure are NOT in my head: Issue experienced while programming presets with H9 being controlled via Helix MIDI for program changes, etc. - At times when switching between snapshots, all Distortion blocks will be turned on, when - previously on that Snapshot, specific Distortion blocks had been assigned/selected - MIDI Program Change messages being sent by Instant Commands on Snapshots are being changed/re-assigned. Most recent time it happened was when I was setting up a new Snapshot to send PC Instant command to select preset on the H9. Where, previously - Snapshots had been setup to send: Snapshot 1: PC 0 Snapshot 2: PC 0 Snapshot 3: PC 1 Snapshot 4: PC 2 After the new Snapshot (6) add been setup to send PC 9; all other Snapshots were now setup to send PC 1
  7. Hello all Just a quick question regarding using Helix to control DMX lights with midi. Firstly is it possible in general, and secondly is it possible that every time I select a Snapshot a midi message could be sent that would select a specific lighting pattern or combination? I don't really want to control the lights via the footswitches in Stomp mode (although that could work). It would be better to map the changes to switches that I already press i.e. the Snapshot changes. Any help or advice gratefully received.
  8. Hello everyone! I was looking to see if anyone can help me out hooking up my setup, I'm very new to midi. I have a Evh 5150iiii 100w-which doesn't have midi built in, and a 7pin din jack. A Nux Pms2 midi switcher, a bestronics 7pin din to (2)1/4" trs jacks and a line 6 hd500x. I can only get the hd500x to switch channels on the amp, but i am not getting any effects etc. Just straight amp sounds. Also when i switch the hd500x from left to right (clean to distortion) i cannot switch smoothly. Any advice would be extremely appreciated!!!
  9. Hi Guys Im having problems using Helix to control MainStage. I have set up Helix to have a preset for each song in my set, I want MainStage to have a playback and metronome click for each preset. I have successfully got Helix and MS synced up so when I change presets it changes patches on MS using an instant command in command centre. I also set up 2 switches on my Helix for each patch, one to turn on the metronome, the other to turn on a playback in MS. That works fine. However when I change presets using the Helix it also immediately fires either the metronome or the playback neither of which I want to happen. Ive tried all sort of combinations in MS but can't seem to stop it happening. Im no expert in midi so maybe my commands are wrong - Im using CC toggle commands for the playback and metronome but have no idea what CC# means so have tried different numbers which does nothing. Then I read on this forum that when Helix sends PC commands it also send all the other commands as well so Im wondering if this is the issue. Any help on this would be appreciated
  10. In Global settins>midi/tempo> theres a setting for duplicate PC send. Whats this for?
  11. Hallo, I purchased an FBV3 pedal to control my Amplify. It works great and the midi controll software is easy to use too. Since Amplify has no looper and there is no easy way to integrate a classic external looper, I thought maybe I can connect both, Amplify AND computer and use a software looper controlled by FBV pedal. Can I switch FBV3 back to control Amplify mode while the USB cable is attached? Thank for any advice and/or oppinionon the topic. Yours recoder

  13. Sending Midi program change, bank select and CC69 (snapshot) from Bitwig to Helix often kills the Helix. the display of the helix gets empty/black, and there is no sound any more. Frightening. this didn't happen before, I wonder if it is related to a bitwig or helix update. Using Bitwig 2.3.2, Helix Firmware 2.50.0 and Windows 10.
  14. I finally got my dual switching for the internal HX Looper working - using a One Control Basilisk and looping back the MIDI out to the MIDI IN of the HX using a MIDI Solutions Quadra Merge - but... It appears that Instant Commands are stored at the preset level, not the snapshot level - is that true? Also, it appears footswitch MIDI commands only work when you are in "stompbox" mode? - is that true? Thanks! Steve
  15. I put my HX Effects in the loop of my HD500 and use the HD as an I/O, Midi Controller and a few extra effects. Overall it works great, but I want to use the volume pedal block in the HX Effects (it has the taper option)... that is where the problem comes in. I have no problem assigning the EXP1 from my HD to the volume pedal block on the HX... but there is too much latency to make it usable, somewhere around 250ms or so which is not very responsive. Patch changes are instant, as are snapshot changes. I use a short midi cable (3') and have tried two different cables with the same results. In the meantime I just setup a volume pedal block in the HD but I've never liked it because it's linear... I prefer the option of using the Audio (LOG) taper. I could also use an external expression pedal - that seems to work fine, but I'm trying to avoid extra pieces. So - this isn't a big deal as I can work around it... but if anyone has any suggestions about the latency I'd be willing to give it a shot.
  16. I'm using the helix lt to control Loop Community's "prime" application on an Ipad. I'm using the MIDI ports on the helix to do this. I'm wanting to add more stomp buttons to help me have more control. Is it possible to use something like this (https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/FSB106Ad1--bugera-fsb106a-6-button-footswitch-for-bugera-trirec) to connect with a TRS cable to the helix's EXP Pedal 2? I'm wanting to still be able to use the helix to control parameters in prime, but I'm also wanting more stomp options. So my first though was just to extend the helix with another pedal. Any thoughts or advice?
  17. Hi, Here is what I would like to do : I want my HX effect to send Program changes when I press a switch which is programed to do so, but I don't want each time i recall a preset, that the unit send a PRG CHANGE command according to its number. How can I do that ? In global pref ? Thanks for your help !
  18. PROBLEM: MIDI assignments can not be stored globally. If we want to set up MIDI assignments for several stomp pedals in order to control some device such as iOS loopers or MIDI controlled effects - this has to be done PER PATCH. So this involves a lot of work if one uses several different presets for different sounds. Also one might want to send MIDI CC messages to say an iOS Looper but experiment with different patches. Or a new one. Currently this cannot be done. MIDI assignments have to be done PER PATCH. SOLUTION: Have a special block - linked to a foot-switch which - when turned on - makes some or all of the foot-switches temporarily become MIDI controllers. This would operate much in the similar fashion to how we currently enter or exit the LOOPER mode in the Helix. In this mode each switch would have dedicated scribble-strip names i could customise. If needed - some switches could still be assigned - say to an effect or a snapshot in order that one can make simple sonic changes without leaving the "MIDI mode". https://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/MIDI-CONTROLLER-Block-where-all-footswitches-become-MIDI-pedal/802355-23508#idea-tab-comments
  19. I’m running my amp head and the 500x in 4CM where I use the 500x also for channel switching on my amp via the 500x's midi OUT (the amp head has midi on-board). The 500 switch layout is sw1-4 for FX on/off and sw5-8 for presets select and amp channel switching. When clicking 5-8 in different banks I can see that the 500 sends all kind of midi commands as my amp head acting differently with every preset / click. When I go into midi menu (I’m following “POD HD500X as a MIDI Controller Device…….B•5” in the manual) and define the correct PC for each switch (5-8) the 500 do sends the correct commands and the amp acts as it should but when exiting the midi menu back to main display, it sends again the wrong commands. What I would like to have are simply 3 PC (31, 29 ,6) on switches 5-8 corresponds to sw5=pc31, sw6=pc29, sw7=pc29, sw8=pc6 and the same switches setup will be applicable for all banks / presets so it doesn’t matter which bank I’m, it will always sends the same PC on sw5-8. sw1-4 should not send any midi commands at all. How do I do that? Thanks.
  20. I´m a long time M9 user considering to upgrade to the HX. It would be great, if anyone could answer me the following questions: How is the synth section? Do the synth models (Synth-o-matic) still have those unnavoidable volume increaseses like in the M9? How is the tracking? What about the new synth models? Do the time based effects in the HX react precisely to an incomming (or the HX´s internal) midiclock? At least for me it´s quite hard to sync most of the time based effects except the delays in the M9 (Seek-Wah, Tremolos, …). Is it possible to control parameters of external midi devices with an expression pedal plugged into the HX? Have you tried using the HX as a midicontroller for external devices? If so, what´s your experience? Planning to put together a small but very effective setup with the HX, Adrenalinn 3, Boss DD 500 and a Korg X 911. Adrenalinn 3 and Korg X911 in the effects loops of the HX, Boss DD 500 after the HX. Can report here about it, if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance for answers...
  21. Hi, I just installed new firmware 2.50 for my Helix LT and it looks as though the midi messages sent from the Helix when changing preset are now wrong... When I switch preset, a midi message is sent out but Cubase recognises it a aftertouch? When I playback the midi track Helix won't aknoledge the incoming message (since it doesn't respond to aftertouch) and it won't change preset. Also, If I copy/paste the recorded messages from aftertouch to program change on my midi track in Cubase, the preset changes on Helix happen exactly as they should (which is how I patch the problem so far). Is there something wrong with Helix sending the wrong midi messages since I updated the firmware? Should I try a factory reset? I did try reinstalling cubase (didn't fix it) but I noticed the midi messages being sent from Helix are the same with another midi monitor software... Thank you!
  22. Hey All, I have set up a patch to control a live looping app on my iPad via MIDI. It uses MIDI CC messages to trigger functions in the app. All works great there! However, I have the LEDs color coded to functions so i can identify them quickly, but the LEDs are always in the DIM state unless I am stomping on the switch. Is there any way to set the LEDs to always be lit fully? It would be very handy to be able to do. Thanks!
  23. Hey everyone, I just got a awesome Spider MK 2 HD100, and iam really happy with it, but it has come with the older floorboard with no connection to pc so I have bought a midi to USB cable to connect from the head into my pc but everytime I begin the firmware update i get a few popup windows open saying everything is ok click "yes" to proceed and then tick the user agreement and then i get a error window with the code 8000000, any clues please? Windows 10 btw. Cheers. Shaun.

    HX Effects to H9

Can't get my HX to control the H9 expression via midi. I also can't get the H9 to receive midi clock from the HX. Anybody doing this already? Thanks, Marty
  25. Hey guys! Having a MIDI problem with my Helix/Roland RC505 looper. Trying to send a CC to turn channel 1 on the RC505 on/off, which I've done with other devices. Have set the appropriate channel (1) and MIDI CC#1 to a switch, and it's not working. However, when I switch to CC Toggle mode, it will send the note only with a toggle and turn the channel on, which is not economical for my purposes - just wanna be able to turn my "chorus" guitar sound on while also turning the right channel on! Thanks for any help. :)
