  1. Dear communitym im very dissapointed with my pod hd500x. From nothing it starts to fail. During a recording session the thing stops recording and only capture noise. first i think it caused by buffer size, sample rate, drivers... In conclusion runing the test mode and voila, all parameters Passed, but MIDI F(ails) Theres no documentation about it, so with my tarzanish english, im tryng to have some answers... It works perfectly after 2 days ago...but when run updater app ( in MAC OS catalina ) and MIDI audio setup, it seems to have a problem with midi ports. Any idea? Photo attached.- @Line6Tony seems to have a lot of experience... :)
  2. I've got a little MIDI problem I'm having trouble with... I have a Reaper project set up for the set list of my band. In it I have a MIDI track that is routed to my Helix Rack via a USB connection. There are MIDI items for each song. And within each I'm calling a preset via Program Change on the Helix. Then I'm using CC messages to select snapshots in different parts of the song. Most of the time things work fine, but the Helix pulls up the wrong patch in the middle of a song sometimes - like it was sent a bad message and reverts to an earlier one. Or like the MIDI item in Reaper is programmed incorrectly (but I'm 99% sure it's not...). Anyone seen similar issues? Not sure if this is a Reaper or Helix problem, or both...
  3. Just posted a Custom Tone to the CUSTOMTONE site called "MIDI CONTROL1" to show how to set up your floor unit to use as a Transport control in a REAPER DAW. It has been tested in REAPER only but may/should work in most MIDI compliant DAWS. The one issue is the "RECORD" command which is not universal but determined by the DAW'S creator. The Code should be notated in their documentation. Here are the notes as entered on the download page: This is NOT a sound Patch file although I have added six blocks in path 1 A and B. This is a TEMPLATE to use as a startng point to build a patch that has MIDI TRANSPORT CONTROL for the REAPER DAW and possibly other DAWS as well. Delete the Blocks in Path A and add your own! Using Footswitches 7,8,9,10 and 11 in STOMP MODE you can transmit REWIND, RECORD, PAUSE, STOP and PLAY commands to your DAW. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE note that Footswitchs 7,8,9,10, 11 must not be assigned to any Blocks or you will cause a real mess! In the GLOBAL settings the MIDI/TEMPO settings to make this happen are: Midi Base Channel = 1; Midi Thru = On: MIDI Over USB= On; MIDI PC Send/Receive = On Set the FOOTSWITCHS Global settings to: Preset/Mode switches = Preset/Stomp; Stomp Mode Switches = 10 Switches; Up/Down Switches = Banks Of Course, you may want to set these to someting else when not working with a DAW which is fine. I have a Bank set for DAW patches and others set for "LIVE" i.e. not recording patches. Switching back and forth on Globals in no way effects your patches Once these Global settings are made: The MODE Button (6) will switch between: Bank Mode: switches 1 and 7 provide Bank up/down + switches 2,3,4,5 provide patch A, B, C, D AND switches 8,9,10,11 provide RECORD, PAUSE, STOP and PLAY as it is in "Stomp" MODE). The Stop Mode: Switches 1,2,3,4,5 provide Block select On/Off in either Path 1 or Path 2. What matters is that NO BLOCKS ARE ASSIGNED TO SWITCHES 7, 8, 9, 10 11 Switches 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 are now assiged to the the REWIND, RECORD, PAUSE, STOP and PLAY functions. You can go to the Command Center in either the HELIX or the HELIX Editor and see the commands and assignments. All the command messages are "MMC" (MIDI MACHINE CODE) except the RECORD command. That code is a "CC toggle Command Code-toggle). This code is defined by the DAW and is defined as CC#28 in REAPER. Other DAWS may have a different code and you will need to refer to that DAW's documentation and change the number in order for the RECORD switch to work. Good Luck - Bo Baker ( listed as Gary Baker on CUSTOMTONE)
  4. I've been experimenting with using MIDI expression pedals on synths I'm triggering with my guitar and have a MIDI foot controller into the MIDI IN of the Helix. I have the expression pedal set to CC1 which is Modulation Wheel and I can see (using MIDI Monitor on my Mac) that is sending just that (using Helix's MIDI Thru) and it is properly moving the mod wheel on a soft synth. Great. The problem is it is ALSO controlling any Helix patches with a Volume Pedal so when I pedal down the mod wheel (to its origin) it also turns the volume pedal all the way down on the patch. I tried moving it to another block but it still is affected. If I turn it off I can see the ghosted version going up and down but it doesn't affect the volume. Anyone aware of this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi all - just wanted to share something i noticed after the 3.5 update: if a midi program assignment is done while the helix (LT in my case) is connected and HD edit is open, it does not save. In my case i needed instant messages to switch my amp channel with snapshot changes. The only way to do it and for it to save is directly in the helix with HD edit closed. Otherwise it goes away as soon as you close command center.
  6. Can L6 effects send MIDI messages to Boss IR-200 per Midi Learn function? For example PC messages?
  7. Curious to know how other people use MIDI for volume control on their Helix and what block and parameter you're sending CC values to. I know answers will differ based on the how you're using your volume pedal in the chain. Right now I have my HX stomp set up to take CC messages on the Level parameter in the final Output block but I'm thinking of moving the volume control to earlier in the chain and controlling the Level parameter in my Cab block so it comes before all synth and time based effects. How are other people doing this?
  8. My Helix is my main MIDI controller and my HX Effects is on MIDI channel 1. I'm trying to get the Helix and the HX Effect's snapshots to coordinate. I can set the CC 69 messages to change the HX Effect's snapshots on the Helix's stomp switches that works fine. But if I try to set them to the Instant slots (so they send with the snapshot change), the HX Effects seems to ignore the CC messages. Any ideas on how to resolve this?
  9. I use MIDI presets to send PC preset selection and CC 69 value 0-7 to choose snapshots, from Bandhelper on iOS. I found that when I requested "snapshot 4, delay ON, snapshot 2", I was instead getting "default-on-load snapshot, delay ON, snapshot 2" on some presets. At first I thought I was chasing a Snapshots bug, but I had a hunch when I saw it was making changes on the default Saved snapshot, not a snapshot number in particular. When I significantly raised the delay between MIDI sends, it changed to snapshot 4 first, then added FX, then snapshot 2. Problem solved. Question is, is there some documented minimum time needed for Helix to do certain things upon receipt of a MIDI command? It would be awesome if I could send 5 MIDI instructions, each 0.1s apart. It's turning out to be more like 0.5s apart, which adds up when you're reconfiguring a preset on-demand. I'm using this instead of building a preset for every song. Choose amp-preset, choose lead snapshot, add FX, switch to snapshot for the beginning of the song. And if I ever tire of the Placater, I need only replace that preset in slot 003 to change the sound of all the songs that used it. The design suits my needs; the timing was giving me a problem.
  10. MIDI Channel switching help! Hey all, I'm trying to program channel switches and effects automation within patches from logic Pro X to the helix. All seems to be working fine other than when I pause playback on Logic. Ideally when playback is paused and the locator is moved in logic no further midi signals should be sent to the helix but it seems that when I pause the playback the last midi signal is re-sent. Set up it pretty much identical to this video and it seems that the user who made this video along with a few people in the comments have had the same issue. https://youtu.be/3ADVKLUcwkk Issue is visible in this video from 8:05 > 8:12: Playback running > Midi switching turns off a block in the setting Playback paused > Block that was just turned off by midi turns on again Is anyone using logic Pro X to trigger midi switching and has a fix or can give some advice to a mid newby? Thanks in advance
  11. 2021 Updated! V1.2 is Now online! This is a Premium MIDI Layout made for Line 6 Helix devices: Helix Floor, Helix LT or Helix Rack. Requires MIDI Designer Pro 2 (IOS app, sold separately) Full tactile control over your Helix using MIDI over Bluetooth or MIDI-USB connections. Hardware and Software requirements: Line 6 Helix, Helix LT or Helix Rack MIDI Designer Pro 2 (IOS App, sold separately) Apple iPad MIDI Interface (wireless or wired) Changes Log: 1 August 2021 - Updated to 1.2 Save and Mode buttons added (requires firmware 3.10 or later) New Helix LT layout included (replaces FS3 slider with a View button) 16 January 2021 - Updated to 1.1 Improved design BlueBoard screen added Extended visual Input: Now this Layout can receive CC69 (Snapshots), values [0,1,2] if you have configured your device to send such data in Command Center. The same is applied to CC1 and CC2 (EXP pedals). These changes must be saved per preset basis in your device. Recommended MIDI Interfaces: Wireless: Yamaha MD-BT01 or CME WIDI Master Wired (using Helix USB): Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter Wired (MIDI to USB): Roland UM-ONE MKII + Apple Lightning to USB3 Camera Adapter Included support (optional): Embedded suport for the IK Multimedia Blueboard Bluetooth LE Modes: Mode B (Half/Full speed, Undo/Redo, Play/Stop, Rec/Overdub) Mode C (Snapshots 1-4) Includes a Small MIDI implementation to replicate the BlueBoard behaviour with any other configurable MIDI device (Airturn, Airstep, Pirate MIDI Bridge6/4, Morningstar, etc) A bit of tech stuff: The operation of this MIDI Layout is based on the current MIDI implementation available on Line 6 Helix devices. This means that the limits of what or how can be controlled are determined by the manufacturer (to a large extent). The practical translation of this fact is that: There are some functions in the Helix that are not controllable, simply because there is no CC assigned to whatever. There are some things in the Helix that receive MIDI but they do not send it. A clear example are the footswitches (FS). For this reason, it is not possible to show a synchronized status (on/off) on the controller's screen. For this type of controls, it will only be possible to send a status change message, so the buttons will be of a momentary type. Helix does not send the names of presets or setlists via MIDI -something that would normally use SYSEX messages or the Line 6's own protocol. Description: 1- Main Screen. From this screen you can control the main functions of your Helix. Some elements receives the MIDI information that your Helix sends and display it on the screen, such as bank and program changes. Others are used to send commands to activate and deactivate elements such as footswitches. A few elements are bi-directional, such as looper controls (broken feature in the 3.0/3.01 Firmware. Waiting for the upcoming 3.1 Helix firmware update). As you already know, the Helix does not send us the setlists names. However, you will be able to rename your Setlists on the controller easily from this screen, simply by pressing the "Setlist" button to write names coincident with those of your Helix. 2-Setlist Screen The main function of this screen is to navigate comfortably between the eight banks of your Helix, but we can also select a preset in each of the 8 banks, and toggle between them at the touch of a button. There are also controls that receive information from your Helix, like these three large screens showing the current MIDI PC, Bank, and Preset (ABCD). The eight Snapshots and the most relevant looper controls are also present here. 3- Preset Screen On this screen, the idea is to have quick and immediate access to all the Presets (and Setlists) of your Helix. Snapshot selection controls are also present, as well as the looper, tap tempo and tuner buttons. 4- BlueBoard Screen This new screen provides embedded support for the iRig BlueBoard. Two units can be used simultaneosly. A small MIDI implementation is also included, to use with any other configurable MIDI controller (Airturn, Airstep, Pirate MIDI Bridge, Morningstar...) 13. Hello, I apologize if this has been covered before but I'm struggling with this topic. I have an old 12 button Digital Music Corp Ground Control unit that I previously used with my HD500X and I would like to see if it would be useful for integration into my Helix set up. I would like to be able to use the midi controller as additional foot switches. First thing. I just tried the Ground with my HD500X and it still works like it used to so I'm sure there's no really issue with it or the cable. How ever I think I'm might have stumbled on to my problem. I'm currently Using a 5 pin midi cable because the HD500X midi is only 5 pins. The Ground control midi only has out and it's 7 pin. I noticed this after banging my head for about an hour. The ground control doesn't even change presets on the current setlist of the helix but it does change presets on the HD500x. Could this be because of the 5 pin cable instead of the 8 pin cable. Is it possible they channels aren't assigned correctly? I'm somewhat familiar with the ground control and the set up. I know I can talk to 8 different devices and assign the channels on the ground control. My question is this, Does the helix communicate on only one dedicated channel or can I set both the helix and ground control to say channel 5. Is it possible that ground control is just too old to communicate with the helix? Thanks Bob
  14. I've figured out how to trigger snapshots, bypass blocks, volume pedal, etc using midi. But I can't figure out, if I download someone's Helix preset that has custom footswitch commands, can I trigger those footswitch commands with Midi in Helix Native at all? Or is this not an option? An example is someone has created a footswitch that turns the gain up on the amp block, or changes the mix level on a reverb.
  15. Hi, this is a little DIY project I built: It's a small Arduino based two button MIDI foot switch for the Helix HX Stomp. It is more flexible and more powerful than the "normal" foot switches connected via TRS cable and as a bonus you can still use an expression pedal hooked up to your HX Stomp. The MIDI Muppet HX can scroll through presets (normal mode) scroll through snapshots (snapshot mode) act as FS4/FS5 (fs mode) bring up the tuner (in any mode) To cycle through modes, press and hold the right (up) switch. To toggle the tuner, press and hold the left (dn) switch. If this is something you are interested in building please check out more information at https://github.com/mattzzw/midi_muppet_hx_2btn Other ideas are integrating tap tempo, looper control, ... Feedback and ideas are welcome! Cheers, /Matthias
  16. Hi, new to the forum and am the owner of a new Helix. I am..was MIDI illiterate, and tried to get info online on how to control my Invective with the Helix without much luck. Any threads regarding this topic usually had very vague information, probably with the notion that whoever was reading it already had an understanding of MIDI...which I didn't. So...this is for the people out there like me. Step one...plug in the footswitch that comes with the Invective and press the Channel 1 select button. Then press the Preset Mode button until all the buttons blink red. Then select Channel 1, and disconnect the footswitch from the amp. Insert MIDI cable from Helix...a 5 pin unlike the 8 pin that the Invective comes with into the amp. Next, go to Global Settings and select MIDI/TEMPO. Select Midi Base Channel as Omni. Then toggle to Preferences and make sure that Snapshot Edits are on "Recall"...not "Discard". Next..hit Menu, and select Command Center. I use the Instant Commands so I can use it with snapshots. Toggle over to Instant 1 in Bank/Program Mode. Set MIDI Channel to 1, leave the Bank CC00 and Bank CC32 blank. Then look in the Invective manual Pages 13-15, and select the Program number with the configuration that you want into the "Program" box in the Command Center. Exaple: If you want the 1st channel with Loop 1 on..enter 36 If you want the 3rd channel with the Gate, Boost, Master boost, and Loop 1 enter 59. It's so simple. I can't believe it took me as long as it did to figure out. And lastly, press save before leaving the Preset and all your settings will stick. I hope I can help some other clueless people like myself with these instructions.
  17. Hi All. First post here. Have read lots of good stuff on here since buying my HX a month or so ago. I do love it and don't miss my Boss ES-5 setup with Mobius and other assorted pedals at all! I'm pretty good with MIDI (from my 90's days when all my synths/effects were outboard!) but have some observations and thoughts on MIDI instant command/Snapshot/Preset interactions that I'd be interested in feedback on. To my mind, it should (logically) work thus (and I'm only dealing with PC messages here...): In Preset mode, you set up your MIDI messages using the Instants in the Command Centre. These would be the default MIDI messages for the whole preset. Within a snapshot, you should be able to change the instant, or have it default to the ‘Preset’ one set up above either by having no instant at all, or a "preset default" option. I use Midi (for my H9 and Elektron Analog Drive) and snapshots (I use one preset per song and the snapshots for the different sounds within a song) and it doesn’t seem to work in a consistent way for me. For instance : I set up one snapshot as a default for a song and copy the snapshot to make changes for different sections. The Instants do not copy across. If I remove an instant from a snapshot (as the snapshot doesn't need to change any MIDI values) the Instant MIDI command is removed totally across all snapshots and the preset. I'm quite sure this is just me not fully understanding how Instants and Snapshots interact! Anyone got any definitive answers on how Snapshot Instant’s work. I’ve fudged my way through (checking each snapshot’s Instant values) and have the unit setup as I want now but would like to now the official line on how it is supposed to work for future programming. Ta, David.
  18. I'm just getting into my Helix... been in a box since since 2015 due to my on the road work schedule. I've updated all the firmware, etc., and I connected the Helix to my Katana via MIDI and also connected it via the four cable method. I went to Preset>Templates>02A 4-Cable Method to begin experimenting with it. I am using HX Edit also, and I see that the Katana is already responding to MIDI communications from the Helix as it is changing the settings on the Katana when I select the different first bank footswitches (01A thru 02D). I've been moving around in HX Edit looking for the MIDI commands that are causing the changes in the Katana, but I can't seem to find where these settings are located. I looked in the Command Center, but nothing is assigned to anything here except footswitch 5 has "This footswitch cannot be assigned"... I'm guessing due to the looper. Anyone able to point me in the right direction here? I know how to assign MIDI from the Helix to the Katana using the PC and CC values provided in the Boss manual, but the Helix seems to be changing selections on the Katana that aren't listed in the list of commands available in the Katana manual, and I want to know how the Helix is doing this with its straight out of the box settings. Thanks for any assistance.
  19. Hi, I'm enjoying the LT very much. Thought I would share my MIDI control mapping for the Helix LT now that version 3.15 includes control of the encoders. Hope it's helpful! Nick Helix LT CC Mapping (For version 3.15).pdf
  20. I have a post up already about transferring SysEx files to/from my M13 but this is specifically about getting a CLEAN dump from the M13. I now know for sure that when I have a good, clean 16 messages of 157 bytes each, that I can successfully load that scene onto the M13. However, if I then do a dump of that same scene back to either my PC or MacBook Pro, that extra bytes are added the files gets corrupted. How can I ensure that when I transfer SysEx MIDI files as a manual dump that it is CLEAN? Has anybody had this same issue?
  21. hello, I would like to know if anyone has had good or bad experiences using the Jackson Audio via MIDI together with the HX STOMP. I would use them controlling with the Morning Star MC3 but, I have been told that there is some latency with the use of the switch on those pedals.
  22. I am wondering if I can midi synch with the M5 Stompbox Modeler? I want to use the delay but rather than tapping the tempo, or using the tempo adjust, i want to have the stompbox automatically synch with my Boss RC-50 loop pedal. I know for a fact you can do this with Strymon Big Sky Reverb for instance. Has anyone tried this? Thanks
  23. dear community, I would urgently need instructions on how to switch the channels on my Marshall JVM 410 using individual presets of the HX Effects. Thank you in advance ;)
  24. Hi I have a problem with my Line 6 POD HD500X. I can’t use POD to changing preset on Neural DSP. I have a MacBook Air and use USB- MIDI interface Cable converter to connecting POD to computer. This is my settings: POD Gereral settings Midi chanel 1 Midi out/thru Preset settings Midi chanel 01 Message CC CC#001 Value 000 Neural DSP settings Type CC Preset Channel 1 CC #1 Please help me...
  25. Help with Midi question please. I'm looking for a Midi Solution to assigning my Midi Controller to emulate FS4 / FS5 for preset switching and scrolling without using the CC52/53 emulate change controls. I have a Mission expression pedal plugged into EXP 1/2 and this uses FS5 to switch between EXP1 and 2. I am looking for different control change or method to handle what FS4 / FS5 does from my MC6 Midi Controller and not use CC52/53. I think it can be done since I had a Jet HX 3.0 controller that had this preprogrammed and allowed me to use the expression pedal as mentioned above. I do not know how they programmed it however... Thanks.
