  1. Hi, I’d like to use the Helix as the central piece of a very simple setup. Using it as an Audio interface to work with my laptop or iPad. I’d like to run external gear through the helix, mainly the Digitakt and record those with the guitar. Simple. I tried to hook my Digitakt to the Helix, to monitor and provide midi sync. I used returns 1/2, that’s the only option I could think of. But I need a “return” block for that, which means a whole lane just to monitor. Also means whenever I switch preset I loose the monitor... just can’t see it working. There should be some sort of “audio through” without the need for a block to be able to use it as a mixer of sorts... we got ¿9? USB outputs but it’s just not workable if you need a block every single time. As I said, you loose a lane (dedicated usb output) and there’s no way to switch presets. am I missing something?. Thanks!
  2. Hey guys, so I have decided that I would like to use my Stomp with studio monitors. I've landed on pretty expensive ones so I have some saving up to do. I've been going through the necessary equipment and I've read that it is a bad idea to plug in two audio sources to the monitors at the same time (PC and HX Stomp). So I found two possible solutions buy a mixer (even the cheapest are pretty expensive and still look very cheap) or use the HX Stomp. I've also read that mixers can negatively affect the audio. HX Stomp seems like a good solution but I'm not sure. Isn't the Stomp going to break sooner if I use it for audio from my PC (around 10 hours a day) and leave it plugged in? It gets pretty warm (but actually doesn't get any hotter) so I don't know about long term use. I've read in the manual that it is not advisable to leave the power supply plugged in when not using it but I'm not sure if it is some "lawsuit protection" or actual advice. Do any of you use Helix as an audio source (PC and Helix) for their studio monitors? Thanks for answers!
  3. Soooo...I bought the Stagescape mixer a couple of months ago. Love it so far! I've done a lot of forums reading, skimmed through the manual, watched a lot of videos, and played with the unit a fair amount. I'm getting ready to do our first gig with it, 5 piece country rock band. For me, there's a certain level of anxiety that comes with this first time adventure and it's probably in part due to not being a sound engineer. Anyhow, I'm thinking if I had a process or workflow map of setting up the M20d properly for the gig I may have a fighting chance. Does anyone have or can share with me the high level steps you take to set-up the M20d for your band? I "borrowed" some of these from other posts, but this is what I've come up with so far: Pre gig set-up - Stage with mics and instruments - Use canned pre-sets for starters - Set up monitors Gig set-up - Masters all down (some monitor level ok) - Set vox levels to unity gain - Set all other instruments to -5db - Auto trim Kick and Snare independently for baseline (mic) - Auto trim the overheads while drummer plays full kit (mics) - Re-autotrim all three drum channels. - Auto trim bass independently (line level input) - Auto trim guitar (mic) - Auto trim keys (direct) - Auto trim vox mics seperatly - Record sound check song(s) - Tweak FOH What am I missing? At what point should I ring out the room? Does someone have a preferred process for doing that? All pointers welcome. Thanks Martin
  4. I know how to create groups for input channels but I'm not seeing how I can create groups or busses for outputs. I would like to have the ability to control the 4 monitor volumes simultaneously once I have them dialed in. Is this possible?
  5. Good day dear Line6 and everyone!! Q.1 I have POD X3 and POD HD Bean. I connect them to two KRK monitors through this mixer: www.rjmmusic.com/mini-line-mixer Please tell me which 6.3jack cables I need to use to operate one POD in stereo and where to connect them? 2 TRS or 2 TS? If I connect one or two cables, which inputs are should I use the mixer in these two separate cases? Please read the instructions for the mixer. I look forward to hearing from you, with respect. I'm playing through GearBox. Q.2 What cables should I use from this list to connect two monitors to the mixer? I also want to inform you that the engineer from RJM who produced this mixer advised me to use 2 mono-jack cables to mono-xlr (ground connected to sleeve in xlr-connector). But I want to ask you, it will be the right option if I do not have grounding in the outlet and whether there will be noise from ground fault with sleeve on every cable? If there is another connection option from the list, then please inform me of the best option. All in two photos. Q.3 How to adjust the impedance on this sound path? (Guitar Processor> Mixer> Monitors) What value should not exceed and not be underestimated at the inputs and outputs. Give an example please (Guitar processor> Mixer> Monitors).   6. Unfortunately, the design engineers decided to dual purpose an output without understanding the consequences. The PHONES/DIRECT OUT provides a stereo signal to the tip and the ring of a 1/4 Jack when inserted into the connector on the back panel. This is fine for listening with headphones but absolutely WORTHLESS when connecting to any mixing console input. Almost all mixer inputs accept BALANCED audio signals and when you send a STEREO signal to such an input you will only hear the audio that is not common to either channel. Mostly it will be a really crappy, low level signal that is impossible to use to anything. The easy fix is to lift one of the conductors on the cable (tip or ring) and leave it unconnected to anything. A more complex fix is to combine the leaft and right channels to make a mono signal and put it on the tip of a cable sent to the mixer and leave the ring unconnected. WHY? Because BALANCED audio format is one of the coolest tricks around. A balanced output has the guitar (audio) signal AND the inverse of the guitar (audio) signal both on the one cable. Signal on the tip (or pin 2 in XLR) and inverse of the signal on the ring (pin 3 of the XLR) . When these signals are sent to a BALANCED INPUT, the signals are SUBTRACTED from each other to produce a signal with twice the gain. This is all done to eliminate the noise which will be a positive signal on both conductors. Say the signal is 2 volts and the noise is .5 volts. You get 2 - (-2) = 4 for the signal and .5 -.5 = 0 for the noise. brilliant stuff because it is so simple. So when you plug your DIRECT OUT into a balanced input (almost all mixers have balanced inputs) you get LEFT SIGNAL - RIGHT SIGNAL = almost all the good stuff gone! I was shocked that a great company like LINE6 would pass this off and even tell you tpo use the DIRECT OUT to record. Really a remedial design issue that should have been caught before they made the amps. peace
  7. Hi Guys, I apologise if this has been covered in depth. I can't seem to find any clarity on this stick model yet though. I just bought a Linksys Cisco AE2500 USB wireless dongle for my M20d. Yes, I know it's got an "A" in the model name, and the compatible dongle stated was just an E2500 - but I took a punt on buying this one, as the E2500 is almost non-existent in my country (Australia). Anyway, I plug it in to the M20d, and wait for it to initialise/be recognised, but nothing happens - the M20d just says "Status: No network adapter present". So is that it then.. give it a bin burial? I had hoped both models would be virtually identical. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  8. I’ve been going out stereo with xlr’s for a good while but never felt I had the sound and spread I wanted. Im now using two amps with two separate outs with one amp panned 24 left and the other 24 right, using stereo reverbs and delays. It now sounds great through headphones and my daw. What’s the best way to treat this in rehearsals and a gig in terms of the pa mixer? Should i pan an each channel hard left and right at the mixer or both in the centre and the helix panning will sort it? Any help or tips with stereo out to pa with two different amps would be great, thanks.

  10. Hello all, I can't find it today, but I saw somewhere on here instructions for sending two outputs from the HD500X - one direct to the mixing console and another to my amp. IIRC: XLR Left Output to the mixing console and the 1/4" Left output to my amp. Does that sound correct? What output setting do you recommend I use? Thanks for helping out a noob.
  11. So, I play in a Praise and Worship band each Wednesday and Sunday. I send directly to the board via mono XLR. Problem 1: I use a MiM Strat with stock pickups fairly often. The volume cuts in HALF when I use it. The "gain" also cuts out a ton. My clean sounds great, my dirty sounds clean and my big boisterous solo sounds like a hint of overdrive with some delay.... Never had this issue with my Mustang 4 and "real pedals." Problem 2: Guitar 2 has an Invader in the Bridge...which I love...But that thing is TOO HOT for the Helix, in my opinion. Cleans are dirty, and dirty is just raw. Yes, I roll back the volume, but never had to with my Mustang IV, OCD, MojoMojo Holy Grail and Flashback delay. Problem 3: Guitar 3 has active EMGs. Sounds beautiful on everything I do, but It is a baritone that I have tuned up to D standard. E standard is too tight and makes it feel like an acoustic.....Leads on an acoustic? Tuning inaccuracies? Damage to the guitar? nah..... and No I don't want to capo or play everything on this guitar "transposed" and stuff (I majored in music...it isn't hard. I know what you're thinking) So, since I'm a newbie at this thing (one week/performance), What can I do to help level the dynamics (volumes) of each guitar? Should I just put up the guitar with the Invader? I'm clueless about EQ'ing these things btw. I understand frequencies, but not how to get the sound I want. Does anyone have some awesome patches. I've already gotten the ones from the Worship Tutorials website. Anyone have any Super clean..no grit, then Chunky, then solo/lead tones? I plan on setting snapshot 4 as an ambient swell. Thanks so much for all you guys do! PS: I've tried the Pad, and a few other little things.
  12. Possibly answered, but I couldn't find it. Just got a Helix...So Excited! SOOO, I'm going to go straight to the board at church. Going to take all my pedals and Mustang IV home (SO EXCITING)! Currently, I have a small Mackey mixer on stage. I have a 1/4 in. cable that brings the piano, bass, drums and vocalist to my mixer and an XLR from my amp to the mixer. That, old fashioned, way...I can mix my sound in my in-ear monitors however I want. Guitar vs house sound. Is there a way I can send the house (1/4 input) straight to the Helix and balance that sound into the headphones with the guitar? But, I don't want the house sound to go back to the board again... So, is this possible or do I have to continue to use my mixer? Thanks!
  13. Hi Guys, Our band plays at a lot of venues with interesting sound control requirements. We run an M20d as our mixer into my Nexo sound system - we run that as per normal, but the venue is trying to cover a large area with many rooms, so they order us to plug a stereo feed into their in-house ceiling system, so that our main mix I pull from stage gets piped throughout various rooms in the venue.. So I run straight out of the M20d stereo main outs into my PA and mix that for audience directly where we're playing, but how do I patch that same mix into to the house system. They usually have two XLR inputs (left and right stereo ins) on the wall side of stage we need to plug into.. On my old desk I had a summed stereo out with separate gain knob I could use. How should I do it on the M20d - it doesn't have such a thing.. Thanks, Stu

Hi everyone.I am using a A&H firewire mixer and I wish to be able to control my helix seperately from other media in my PC. 0) When i switch the helix on everything that I play on my pc(backing tracks/you/tube etc etc) comes back through my channel on mixer assigned for helix.I totally understand the logic that the helix is acting as a soundcard etc. I have playback for all other stuff on PC(Sonar included)coming through and back through different channels. My question is can I just have the helix coming through 2 channels and not taking over the pc sounds also? Many Thanks
  15. In few words: I want to start a song with a clean sound of a fender tweed and then change it to a distorted sound of a Mesa Boogie. Let's say that I want to play Fade to Black from metallica, how can I change between these two amps using just one footswitch? I have pod hd500X for over a year and I just can't do that, its so frustrating. Thank you!
  16. Hi Guys, I use my M20d mixer at gigs that go from just me and an acoustic guitar (so just 2 input channels), right up to a 6-piece band that utilizes all 18 input channels. I always just use the same scene that is all our 18 channels for the main band eq'd etc the way I like it, and I just plug my 2 solo channels in to my usual gt & vox channels. But when I record even just a solo gig using 2 channels only, all 18 channels are recorded by default, as that's what that scene uses. Is there a way I can switch off the other 16 channels from being recorded? My 32gb card fills up fast when 16 silent channels get recorded too for every song! I even tried muting the 16 channels individually, which of course made no difference. I'd rather not set up multiple scenes etc just for a few different gig sizes, as often I do solo songs during the full band gigs, but I presume that's the only way? Any suggs appreciated. Thanks very much.

Does anyone have any advanced settings advice on what deep tweaks have worked for them with the deep effects parameters on the M20d regarding the reverbs and delays, and have made their effects sparkle a lot more in a live situation? The standard fx sound ok, not great though to my ears. Just wondered. We're a 3-piece live cover/pub band with 3 vocalists. Thanks very much.

Hi Guys, I've got a few of our band's songs recorded on my M20d ('inputs and main mix' on my SD card), and when I'm sitting at home using them to soundcheck our Nexo gig PA, I notice that, whenever a channel has audio recorded, if there's signal present, there's a realtime spectrum analyser wave jumping around on the screen in behind the settings, when I'm in the deep tweak section of the 6 band EQ setting. This is on my vocal mic channel, as I'm trying to tweak the sound of it. Is this just for display purposes of what realtime frequencies are firing, or is there some tangible/operational way it can be utilised to improve sound?

Any firmware updates planned.. any new patches being developed.. anything that resembles development, evolution, or even interest of any type? Could one of you Line 6 Techs, just one time, throw us one scrap of information on it?
  20. Hi Guys, I'm fully sick as a sound guy, and I mean that in a BAD way. I'm totally useless - never have I had the knack of pulling great sound. I'm a very experienced live gig muso, but I really can't pull live sound to save myself. As much as I have tried, I can't seem to make our 3-piece band sound clean/good quality at our live pub gigs with my beloved M20D - maybe because I'm busy playing? Might any kind souls out there be interested in getting my trio band's M20D soundcheck file emailed to them, and having a crack at engineering it properly for me on their M20D, then email it back to me so I can upload the settings etc back into my M20D for a presumably WAY more pro-quality sound? Is this possible with the M20D? I'd be happy to pay for your effort, particularly if you're a professional live engineer, or just a monster with the M20D? Hoping someone might get in touch to help out. I love this thing, but I'm sinking rather than swimming, and the pub bosses aren't happy..! Cheers, Stu.

I use the Podhd500x for vocals and guitar live, i have the spider hd150 and im wondering the best output option, atm im going xlr L to mixer for vocals and xlr R to the amp using a XLR to jack, but is it best for me to go 1/4 inch jack to desk and 1/4 jack to amp? XLR is best for Vocals but im wondering if its best for guitar or not? On top of that what would be the best output setting? Direct out is good for vocals yet to a stack for guitar.
  23. Hi all! This is Andre, I speak from Brazil and I need some guidance on how to get the best out of my recordings with Pocket Pod. Hope this catch your attention. I currently use Pocket Pod’s AMP OUT plugged into a guitar link USB interface, which goes straight to my laptop. I set it to DIRECT MODE. To listen to what I’m playing while recording, I use POD DIRECT OUT into my peavey 15w amplifier. It’s working as a monitor. And to listen to what was recorded, I use an Edifier speaker, plugged in my laptop. Obviously, neither the amp nor the speaker are good references to the REAL sound. What I need is make sure that when I tweak the knobs on my pocket pod, I’ll listen to the real changes through my monitor, and listen to the same tone through my speaker after recording. Do I need a pair of proper monitors? I hope you can tell me what I need to do. Thanks in advance Andre

    Helix output

    Can someone tell me how to connect the helix straight to the mixer . A pictorial representation would be great because i'm a newbie. i want to use helix straight through a mixer .

I cant get my head round this: I believe i have the amp outputs (via the mixer) panned both centre (see image) but the chorus effect is ONLY audible on the LEFT XLR out, unless i engage the "dynamics" effect which follows (which i understand sums to mono) then i can hear it on the right-XLR. I have input 2 disabled (set to variax) but changing it to "same as input1" makes no difference. Also inserting a mono-summing effect before the amp does not reveal the chorus effect on the right XLR out. I thought the summing and panning on the mixer (after the amp) would effectively run everything L+R equally. can anyone explain please. thanks
