  1. At the moment I don't have an amp or any speaker to plug my pod into so I can't test my patch out with a high volume, and I have practice next week so I don't want to waste everyone's time trying to figure out which settings to adjust.... so is there a way to raise the volume on the patch and keep the same tone that you currently have? if not, then which settings(mids, gain, bass, etc..) should i start adjusting? higher or lower? I'm going to be plugging in the pod into the system, on the XLR out, should I be plugging it on both left and right or is plugging it in on one side fine? Is there a certain setting, besides the amp volume, that should be the same on all the patches in order to keep the same volume on all of them.
  2. So I've been playing guitar for a few years now, but I never really got around to learning how to make the "perfect" patch or sound for me, and honestly I still get lost when it comes to finding a good sound. I know about this^ website providing patches from other users, but honestly they sound good until you start playing with other instruments. I own a Schecter Blackjack SLS with the Floyd Rose and Sustaniac, with a Seymour Duncan TB-10 Full Shred Humbucker on the Bridge. I play at my church so I would really appreciate if someone could help me out on figuring out a sound that would sound good with this guitar and also sound good live. I will be plugged into the system, not an amp. Next week is my church's anniversary so I want to have a really good sound by then, for those that decide to help me, I am trying to look the basics, a clean patch, rhythm patch, and a solo patch, and for those that have experience with playing at a church, i am not looking for a sound like hillsong, at our church we like to play a little more "rock." Thanks.
  3. What is the proper way for me to create a patch OR patches that will allow me to loop acoustic guitar and violin live from the Helix? I want to be able to record acoustic guitar via the looper and then immediately add violin. Ideally this would be done within a single patch where I have access to fx pedals for both. Currently I have my violin sending into "Aux1" and my acoustic guitar sending into "Guitar In." Both sound excellent. How do I preserve 2 separate signal paths (the first signal path being acoustic guitar - sending through Guitar 1; and the second path being violin - sending through Aux 1) yet have them sum to the looper? Do I need to create 2 separate patches (violin) and (AG) and switch between the two? Or can I create 1 patch using separate routing (paths 1A and paths 2A) to and somehow sum them to the looper? I was trying the latter idea of 1 patch with two separate paths (1A for guitar and 2A for violin) but guitar ends up being pushed through path 2a, thus picking up all the violin fx. Attached is my current patch. Can anyone help?
  4. Hey guys, I thought I'd make this a separate post so that it's easier to find for anyone who might be having some issues. The patches for the HD500 do not import directly into the HD500X Edit software at this time. They use different file formats. There is a work-around that I posted earlier, and is being passed around now. All you have to do is change the extension on the patch files: For individual patches, change the extension from .h5e to .5xe For bundles, change the file extension from .h5b to .5xb For setlists, change the file extension from .h5s to .5xs I have found no inconsistencies among the patches from the HD500 Edit to the HD500X Edit using this method. I don't know if/when Line 6 will update the software to allow backwards compatibility, but in the mean time, you can use this method to get your 500 patches to your 500X. UPDATE: Someone else mentioned that you can drag-and-drop individual HD500 files into the tone slots in the 500X Edit software. I can confirm that this works. You will still need to change the file names for set-lists and bundles, though.
  5. Hi All, I considering the purchase of the Helix and I'm completely new to amp modeling, etc. I keep seeing terms like "IR", "patches", and other terminology used in reference to these devices. Can someone help me understand these, and whatever other terminology I'm likely to encounter, in conceptual terms? I'm also researching a couple other devices, for example the Kemper system. Was it the case that when the Helix initially came out, the stock tones were not on the level of the Kemper but that over time Helix has closed the gap (if there ever was one in the first place)? I ask this because I visited a Kemper forum and had seemed to see more and more converts to Helix in terms of general attitude in the posts towards the device over the past year or so. So I'm wondering that as people have dialed in various tones on their Helixes via "tweaking" that perhaps things have improved over time? And then, of course, I've seen a number of Youtube videos where the Fractal, Kemper, and the Helix are compared and honestly I have a hard time telling the difference between any of them and that it boils down (to me, anyway) the interface of which Helix has the best (again, in my opinion). So if anyone can address or help me out with the above points, I'd greatly appreciated it. Thanks again. Regards, Geo
  6. Hello guys, Check out a cool tone I made and let me know what you think!
  7. Hi Everyone, Does anyone have a patch for "Smashing Pumpkins - Zero" for the POD HD500x I need theRhythm and solo patch. I've tried to do this and failed miserably... Ended up with a total pitch shifting MESS... Can anyone help? Regards, Hickdood
  8. This is another combination patch, Orange OR80 and the Marshal Plexi. Created with a PRS SE Custom 24. In the recording below, I utilize both humbuckers and single coil tones. Hope you like it. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/2218528/ Link to audio sample: https://soundcloud.com/aepoc/saginaw-3
  9. Anybody have any formant wah settings they've programmed? If not, any ideas on how to get them? Maybe via 2 (or 3?) wahs, using the same pedal as a controller, in parallel, to create the necessary frequency variations to get "vowel sounds"? two frequency formant three frequency formant I am a giant fan of Line 6 products generally and the Helix specifically - it's worth more than the combined value of many of my other effects, not even including the 2 JTVs I bought to really unleash it. But I am still surprised this is such a blind spot for the folks doing the typically robust modelling work. Thanks for any help you can provide - Dan

  11. Most of my patches are saved with the basic amp and reverb settings switched on, but with overdrive, a modulation effect and delay set up but switched off. So when I'm playing I'll switch those on as needed. The next time I use the patch, I want it to be in its saved state, with the overdrive, modulation and delay effects switched off. However the HD300 keeps them switched in, even if I select another patch and go back to the original one, it still has the variations switched on. Is there any way using the footswitches to recall a patch with its settings as they were saved?
  12. Please be aware that downloaded tones, patches and presets that were created by other users have the potential to be corrupted and not work correctly on the target device. Firewall/Antivirus/Internet security applications, Internet/video accelerators and proxy servers, among other things, can be causes of trouble with downloaded files. If your device freezes, a rule of thumb is to back up your custom patches, reset the unit to its factory state, ensure the unit does not freeze while in this state, then load your patches one by one, testing after each load to determine which patch is faulty. Otherwise, please contact our Customer Support team at www.Line6.com/support/tickets. Please be prepared to supply your backup file so that we can investigate your case further.
  13. Hi. Does someone have some kind of a "4 channel"-preset (or more), with a nice and clear clean, a warm bluesy low-Gain sound, a Marshall 800 like mid-Gain and a shredding high-Gain sound + solo-option. I heard it is possible to configure one preset that way to be used as a highly flexible multi channel amp. I would use your preset as a default construction for finding my basic tones in just one preset. Warm regards, Sascha (Please excuse my poor English. I'm from Gemany)

How to I get the wah settings to not treble out and bite so hard on the high side? Puts my teeth on edge
  15. Hi, I’m new here so please forgive me if the answers to these two questions are obvious... I have searched through the forum / google and can't find anything on these subjects so here goes; Firstly, in live edit mode, is it possible to edit the amp volume parameter? – the only parameters I get the option to edit when I press footswitch A (AMP) are ‘Amp model’ and ‘Presence’. (With new gear we all inevitably decide mid-song, at a gig, that whatever sound we may be using is too loud or too quiet. Therefore, it would be great to be able to set the amp volume mid song, save it and progress happy in the knowledge that our current sound is at a good volume relative to all our other patches – I’m assuming here that amp volume is the best way to level your sounds path to patch). This is also assuming that the strange sounds / lag between patch issues are ever resolved and I end up in a situation where I can use this thing live PLEASE RELEASE AN UPDATE TO RESOLVE THIS LINE 6 :) Secondly, is there a way to / is it possible to assign saved tones to the top row of footswitches FS1 – FS5 as patches rather than use them to switch individual stomps on and off? effectively giving me the option to have 9 pre-set patches per bank? I know some people may not see a reason to use the Firehawk in this way but for me it would be useful as I have previously used a POD XT Live with a behringer foot controller that had 10 pre-set patches per bank and im not the biggest fan of change. Thanks for any help in advance Mike :D
  16. We've found that tones created while using the original 1.01 firmware can sometimes be corrupted, regardless if they are new or downloaded tones. This results in the device locking up, with a factory reset being needed for recovery (press and hold the Master Volume knob and the TAP button as you power up the unit). Firmwares at version 1.10 or later resolves this issue. Tones created in version 1.10 or later can no longer be corrupted like they would have under version 1.01. However, corrupted tones created in version 1.01 are still problematic when used in Firehawks updated to later firmware versions. We encourage those encountering this issue to update to the latest firmware via the Line 6 Updater software, then perform a factory reset. Please note that any tones not backed up to My Tones prior to a reset will be lost (corrupted tones cannot be uploaded because they crash the unit and thus can't be selected for uploading).
  17. Other than the customtone area on this site, is there any other good place to find patches? Preferably a large pack of them? I read somewhere there are places you can find thousands of patches. Thanks!
  18. Hi there Since about one year I own a HD500x and use it regularly at home for practice and with a choir, where I play in the accompanying band, mostly at churches. Now my problem is, that the HD500x lies on the ground with all cables plugged in, and if unfortunately e.g. the guitar cable "hangs" over the HD500x, it misadjust the knob position to an unwanted setting (mostly the knobs in the top row, Drive, Bass, Mid etc.), resulting in bad sound. Especially in a live situation, this is really annoying. My solution would be to just reload the saved patch, but I couldn't figure out how to do this when not connected to the computer (there I just copy an empty patch to this slot, but while in a live situation, this is not possible). So, am I the only one that fights with this problem? How would you solve this? Thanks for your help and ideas. erklaerbaer
  19. I'm currently running on Yosemite 10.10.2 and have installed the updated copy of the Line 6 Monkey (v1.7) After updating the drivers and the x3 live firmware (it was seamless till this point), i tried installing the Gearbox v3.72 the conventional way but failed. So I searched up online and followed the instructions on this link: http://line6.com/support/topic/11126-gearbox-x3-live-yosemite-working/ . I did not manage to completely uninstall the drivers as suggested (i used the terminal app, but it still would let me install some drivers like the "AudiMidi" saying there's a newer version installed prior to this), but still manage to install the Gearbox found in the package contents. HOWEVER, the Gearbox that's running won't let me load up any patch/tone. When i try to do so, an error prompt “ UNABLE TO LOAD TONE (CODE 8000A009) UNSUPPORTED PATCH TYPE“ appears.. Tried uninstalling everything but still, the same problem persists. I'm pretty desperate here and its been many days trying to work this out... I would sincerely appreciate anyone who can help! Many thanks in advance, Jovyn
  20. I have finally come tweaked an HD500 patch for JTV model Acoustic-5 through my L2m that I am happy with for live band use. It was set up and saved with HD500 connected to my L2m in ACOUSTIC GUITAR mode via L6 link. FS4 is set to toggle on/off tube compressor for solo boost if needed. It reduces the boomy resonance with the L2m when playing an acoustic model at volume and also reduces the harsh high-mid treble allowing the more subtle acoustic qualities to come through at volume in a live band setting. I have added it to CUSTOMTONE so please feel free to download it and try it out. http://line6.com/customtone/profile/edstar1960 Background info: I have a JTV59 with fw 2.1 and it is strung with Fender 150R's - and they are 10's. I have made some slight global string adjustments and model string level adjustments under Workbench HD. I hope that this patch will be useful - even if it needs to be tweaked some more for your own setup.
  21. I have a Dobro Resonator (Hound Dog Deluxe Roundneck, if it interests you). It came with the Fishman resonator pickup already in it. It's the type that connects underneath the cone, rather than under the bridge saddle. I love how this pickup sounds--it really recreates the sound of the resonator very well. To my ears, it almost sounds like it's been mic'd up. (The only challenge I encounter when I plug it in is--it's totally passive with no onboard preamp or controls. So when you plug it in, you have to put it through some kind of preamp to boost the signal to proper levels if it's going to be amplified well.) That said, I'm beginning to tinker around with running it through my POD HD. The POD would be a perfect "preamp" unit before running it through a PA. I've not spent much time with it yet, but plan to soon. I was wondering if any of you out there have done this, and if you have any particular suggestions on what models to start with when I'm creating tones. I would like to create a tone in the POD that recreates the sound of the pure Dobro as closely as possible, so I kind of doubt that I'd run it through one of the amp models. But I'm open to ideas. Would I have the best luck sticking to the "Studio Preamp" model on the POD? If that's the case, do you have any particular suggestions on how to set up those parameters for the right sound? I mean, I still want it to sound like a true resonator, so no "grit" or "drive" (although I might add that later for fun). And I might add some verb to it in order to add some dimension to the sound. But what tone-building blocks should I consider? Maybe the studio EQ as well? Any suggestions would be very helpful--particularly from someone who has played their own resonator through the POD and achieved good results. I'm sure I can figure out what will sound good eventually with my own ears, but it doesn't hurt to get a leg up with advice from someone who's already been down that road. Thanks in advance!
  22. Hi I have had the POD HD500X for a few weeks (after owning a Digitech RP500). I'm very impressed and seem to have got though the early learning curve in creating some patches. My question/advice needed is I used 1 amp with various effects in front (reverb after amp etc..) and they sounded "ok". I then downloaded a patch from this site that had a pre-amp and another amp and it sounded amazing. How do you all go about creating your tones. (I play Smashing Pumpkins...U2...Incubus...RHCP etc) so have a fair amount of different patches I want to create. I also seem to keep saving over previous patches I've created?. (a drag and dop error I guess from me when using the editor via a PC...which is great by the way). Cheers guys
  23. I like to have my HD500X set up with performance view assigning FS1-FX8 to toggle FXs on and off. I also use the HD500X edit software. It seems like when I change patches, either with the edit software engaged or not, the pedal does not respond consistently. Sometimes I think, when I go back to a patch, that it went back to its original saved state, and most times I think it stays the same way I left it. So, I have finally learned to edit a patch to my satisfaction. As I use a patch over and over, should it always go back to the way I originally saved it or should it return to the way I left it after I used it? I include in my patch a forced guitar model for my JTV-69. If I change it during performance, does it stay in its changed mode when I return to it? If you make changes in the edit software, you can return to the original by selecting the patch and clicking the receive button. Is there a way to manually bring back the original save of the patch or the original set on the HD500X?
  24. Hi, I have a JTV69 and I'm looking to buy an Hd500x. In anticipation I've already downloaded the editing software for the Hd500x so I'm familiarising myself with way it works. I know i can assign a foot switch to switch FX block in and out of the signal chain and that i can assign more than one FX block to a switch. Does anyone know if its possible to assign a foot switch to change a JTV patch in the same manner? I know that each patch within the Hd500x can have Variax patch assigned to it but it would be very helpful if it were possible to toggle between 2 sounds within an Hd500x patch - e.g. An acoustic and an electric... preferably using the same foot switch to switch in/out multiple fx blocks at the same time. For example if I wanted to play "Pinball Wizard" by The Who, I would need an acoustic sound with quite a lot of compression and a Hi Pass Filter but no 'amp' sound... Then for the chorus it would need and electric sound, different compression, EQ etc., and a 'Hi Watt' or similar... I know i could use the Mag pickups and an acoustic sound on the variax and go between them with the expression pedal but i want to use the modeled sounds. As far as i am aware, the variax changes patches using a MIDI protocol down the VDI cable... I cant see that this would be too difficult to implement with software. I hope i've explained myself - and that i havnt asked a stupid question... Vin Xxx
  25. How to create the tone of the "synthesizer or loop machine" from this pink floyd song in pod hd 500? http://youtu.be/mc9ANtPEXQk?list=PL2747C267DB304FCE tks & regards!
