  1. Hey guys, I thought I'd make this a separate post so that it's easier to find for anyone who might be having some issues. The patches for the HD500 do not import directly into the HD500X Edit software at this time. They use different file formats. There is a work-around that I posted earlier, and is being passed around now. All you have to do is change the extension on the patch files: For individual patches, change the extension from .h5e to .5xe For bundles, change the file extension from .h5b to .5xb For setlists, change the file extension from .h5s to .5xs I have found no inconsistencies among the patches from the HD500 Edit to the HD500X Edit using this method. I don't know if/when Line 6 will update the software to allow backwards compatibility, but in the mean time, you can use this method to get your 500 patches to your 500X. UPDATE: Someone else mentioned that you can drag-and-drop individual HD500 files into the tone slots in the 500X Edit software. I can confirm that this works. You will still need to change the file names for set-lists and bundles, though.
  2. What happens in this scenario Lets say in a bank I have 4 presets: 1. Clean 2. Crunch 3. Lead 4. Speciality Lead/FX I am playing live with my band. Because we are human or the drummer is a doofus we are playing faster (or slower than normal). At the beginning of the song I have a clean sound with some delay, so I tap tempo on the firehawk switch to get in sync. But...what about the other 3 presets (2,3 and 4) I want those presets to have the same tap tempo as what I just tapped for the intro/first preset so that when it comes time to hit on the lead patch, the tap tempo is the same. From what I gather this is not possible? As an aside...how does tap tempo work if the line 6 switches are on release? I find you have to be more 'tappy' with your foot to try to get it in time?
  3. Hello everyone! This is the new thread dedicated to bass presets for Pod HD series. The original thread was located in the community "Long forgotten bass players", but I think it will be better here. I hope that this thread will become a place to share experiences, knowledge, and above all, our presets for bass! To start the discussion, here's my Bass Setlist for HD500 with 20 patches: HD500 Setlist V3 - "High Output Bass Amps" (16-Jan-2013) http://www.mediafire.com/?h4yta8468nawfzt How to convert Setlists: If you have a different Pod HD, you can use this tool: http://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd All this presets are set on a "single arm chain": What you get with this Setlist is a high volume of output using a Bass, forget the messes that involved the dual input configuration, and make the pod HD works in a very similar way to how the Bass Pod worked (regarding to mono wet and dry outputs). But here you have the advantage of being able to play your bass in true stereo, too. Now you can have a balanced sound between the bass and guitar, and record comfortably in your sequencer. I left the presets configured as inputs Guitar:Same, but please, I do not want to contribute to this confusion. Using this new configuration (let's call it "single arm chain"), the input 2 has absolutely no effect on the sound (when using the config 1 mentioned below) If you want to record two mono tracks (wet and dry, panned all the way L/R), then it makes sense to use the second input as "same" (when using the config 2 mentioned below). Unmuting the Channel 2 you actually obtain a completely dry signal from your instrument. Of course you can also use a combination of both if you want to use another instrument on channel 2. But most important is to understand that in this way we have two inputs completely separated from each other without causing strange effects in the other, or interfere in any way. As I said before, for me this has been a great discovery. Thank you very much to Meambobbo. This is the structure for v3 patches: 1- Noise Gate. I'm currently using noise gates, until I learn how to use the hard gates. I'm a little slow! More details here: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ampTone#noiseGates 2- Tube comp. Almost same settings than before. 3- Classic Distortion. Still here, for now. You could also use a wah pedal or whatever else here, if you prefer. 4- Analog Chorus. I removed the ugly delay in front of the amp, and now I have a chorus. I like this effect for bass, and I think this is the best sounding of the three possible. The Dimension and Triple chorus does not sound bad, but have far fewer parameters and are therefore less controllable. In contrast, analog chorus has many controls, a vibrato mode, a tone control, etc. For now I used a basic setting, but it sounds pretty good with the reverb. 5- Studio EQ. Still here, for now. I'm not using it much now, because I have found that it can be a specific setting for each bass you use. Maybe try a parametric EQ, but it seems much more complicated for me: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq 6- Mid Focus EQ. Hi and Low pass filters, now with settings 5%-65%. Gain between 0-30% 7- Spring Reverb. I used a reverb that is noticeable, but not annoying. Sounds great alongside the chorus. At least I like to use them together to have a good time. Note that when using chorus+reverb, overall volume will also rise up! I have had this in mind, so that the volume is not excessive when active. Still, if you play too hard, this could produce clip, so look first at gain settings I put into the Mid EQ. 8- FX loop. I´m using a Boss RC-300 loopstation here. About the Inputs and Mixer settings using the config above (single arm chain): Config 1: Just to play (Stereo) Input 1 - Guitar Input 2 - (Doesn´t matter, since PathB is muted.). Mixer - PathA +12 dB center, PathB Muted (panned 100%R just for convenience when using config2) Config 2: Recording (2 mono channels, Left Wet (processed), Right Dry (unprocessed, or DI) Input 2 - Guitar Input 2 - Same Mixer- PathA +12dB 100% Left, PathB +12dB 100% Right So you can: Record a stereo track selecting the stereo input, and then split the track on two separate mono tracks on your DAW. OR, arm two mono tracks on your secuencer selecting each separate mono input, and record both at the same time. Personally I like best the second approach, becouse I´m using Logic Pro, maybe in your secuencer there is an easier or practical way to do the first one.

    Preset List?

Greetings folk, is there a list of the factory installed presets that come with the Helix (Rack) that you can point me too please? I've had a look but can't find anything. My previous Line6 purchases did. Many thanks in advance. Tim
  5. Does anyone else have an issue with the POD HD Pro X (or other POD versions) overwriting patches seemingly randomly? This has happened to me on multiple occasions and it's kind of annoying when the only way to get the patch back is to restore it to defaults. I don't want to have to keep doing this. It seems like it happens when switching from one Set List to another, but there might be other factors, and it happens so sporadically that I am only just now coming to this conclusion after having the device for almost 3 years. For example, say I'm in the "User 2" on patch 5D. Then I switch to the "Best of HD" setlist and the 5D from "User 2" will now be the 5D there. Does this happen to anyone else? Is there a solution for it? It's really annoying and seems like something that should be patched.

  7. Sometime ago I watched a video on Periphery's live set rig and I learned that they used a DAW to send MIDI signals to their Axe-Fx to switch patches during their performance. I was curious if the Helix is capable of this and if there is a good tutorial to set it up.
  8. There are a lot of promotional videos from Line6, and they all sound much better than any preset I created with my new Helix. Jack Thammarat e. g. shows how to create a lead tone for Helix: I reproduced everything like shown in this video, I also used an Fender Stratocaster – but my patch sounds not as good as in the video. Much less brilliant and not as much like an tube amp in this video. Well, Jack Thammarat wrote he recorded the sound directly via USB … I can't believe it. Are there any tricks to get my guitar and Helix sound better? Preamps? Post production? Other things? Has anyone any suggestions? Ulf
  9. I picked up a Helix a couple days ago and am loving it. Been using a Kemper for a while but that will more than likely be sold soon. One glitch I am running into that I can't find on the forum... There is a noticeable drop out when I change patches. Has this been identified by anyone else yet ? I updated to the latest firmware but am still getting the delay. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
  10. 1-I want to assign the Helix looper function to al my patches and activate by a footswitch 2-the first single path has run out of space how do I add more patches
  11. Hi, Was wondering whether anyone has had any problems with sound dropping out while using a pod hd500? Sometimes, and intermittently, I will be playing and the volume just disappears. If I switch patch it comes back but on a few occasions it hasn't. I thought it was to do with the exp pedal at first so I removed this from the signal chain but it is still happening. It's really annoying as it's not all the time and I can't tell when or why it's happening. I only use this pedal while onstage (no amp) so when it goes I'm left looking like a fool. I found turning it off and on again works but I can't be doing this every night. Any ideas would be greatly received. Cheers
  12. This info will probably be 101 type stuff for a lot of regulars on this forum in particular, but I had gotten some questions on my other patch videos about dual paths and stereo setups. So I made a video building a patch showing how to do this. If anyone has any questions about setting up dual paths this might be helpful.
  13. I've been working on Metallica tones for their first five albums. The goal was to get as accurate as possible. Here's where I ended up! The video quality varies quite a bit but all the guitar playing is recorded direct to the computer via USB with no mixing or any kind of extra processing added. It's straight Helix. Seek & Destroy for that gnarly, old-school metal Kill 'Em All tone Fade To Black with Hetfield's revamped and modded Marshall tone
  14. Ive recently recieved a pod xt live as a gift and after hours of research cant seem to find anything about downloading patches using windows 10. I know that you need to use line 6 edit to save and move patches to the pod but the line 6 software page says that line 6 edit is not available for windows 10. So is there any possible for me to download custom tones to my pod xt live with windows 10?
  15. Hello all, I don't usually frequent gear forums so I apologise if my forum etiquette is sub standard. I've been really excited about the Helix since the reveal of the device. I've been waiting for you guys to drop a new modern unit since the HD500x. So, I've been nurturing use of a Pod XT for many years now and it has served my playing routine greatly since purchase. No to mention that I've had very little problems with the unit. I hit my tone limit a long time ago. I need more control over the signal chain to be able to really suss my guitar tone out. I'm seriously tempted to take the plunge on the Helix and have the funds to do so. I have my doubts though, especially considering it is such a great deal of money to drop on a pedal. Could I trouble some knowledgable users with some questions? 1) Line 6 edit I think I saw that Line 6 released a "Gear Box" Win/mac user interface for the Helix unit. How is this coming along, is it good quality? I can't find any screen shots at all. Nobody is hailing it as god's gift, if it has been released. I understand the larger display and functionality might completely over-rule the use of something like this. I'm curious as to it's current state of play. 2) Patch latency This is something that's been raised a few times on here. I understand the nature of loading process for patches. As I've dealt with the XT live, I do understand THIS IS modelling. With the XT, there was a noticeable delay in switching patches. It wasn't terrible but it was noticeable. I'd argue it is literally the longest patch latency I'd be willing to put up with. Can anyone clarify if it is an improvement? Some have said the time it takes to load a patch is directly related to the amount of "blocks" you have in your patches. I'm not looking for multiple cabs and amps per patch. The XT had Comp, Gate, EQ, Amp Sim, Cab, Delay, Mod, Reverb. Considering that as a base line. What sort of latency are we looking at as standard? Better or worse? Painfully delayed? 3) Further talking about patches delays. Some have suggested loading everything into one patch and using that? I saw Glen Delaune's, 3 channel amp patch and I wasn't THAT sold on the "method". Surely you can run into instances where both, your clean channel is running and your boost is on? Surely your tone is going to more of a compromise instead of what you actually want to here? 4) Do custom IR's perform better or worse re: quality and patch latency? 5) Spreading blocks over to "Both CPU processors"? How is this actually done? Do you run the amp and cab on a separate line with links between. How effective is this reduction? 6) Direct into a Tube Amp I use a 2x12 Fender Hot Rod Deville. Can anyone elaborate as to how will this pedal plays with standard Tube Amps. I don't need a processed video from Chappers, I've seen it already. You know what I mean. My query is the ability to sculp the sound and fix mushyness. Sustain at volume, deliberate feedback etc. 7) Some people in other posts have suggested using 8 Template <02c ... XXXXX as a base line for your tones, to avoid latency problems. I don't own one yet, so I can't exactly investigate as to what these patch templates have to offer. Can anyone elaborate as to what these templates have to offer and how they work? I know there's a lot going on above regarding my questions. If you'd be so kind as to weigh in where possible, I'm sure others will review this thread to help put minds at ease. Please be as honest, clear and descriptive as possible I know it's a pain... although they're not "Million dollar" questions, they are the "Thousand dollar" questions that I would really appreciate clear answers for. I really appreciete you taking the time to review this thread.
  16. New to Pocket Pod but not to editors. Have several Digitech ones with their editors on pc. Using Win10 and pod works fine and updates through Monkey so all seems connected correct. Good tones and are able to change, download, save, upload from library etc. However, the navigation seems needlessly convoluted and difficult, Not too difficult through the editor but almost impossible in the pod window. Areas are seen that aren't addressed in the editor like banks. And what is "Air" in the editor knobs???? I add a new set and I don't see it in the editor???? It saves and restores but does not show in editor except under one of the other labels like band, pod or user. Just does not seem a logical connection between navigation in the pod and in the editor.
  17. hello guys I'd like to know what is the best custom tone in your opinion. I dont want to spend a lot of time searching for good ones (evaluating etc). I know that it can sound horrible with my gear, but I could use it to learn or test different configurations/combinations. My patches are ok, I just need to have new insights.... examples with different amps would be nice, mostly Mesa boogie...or high gain for podhd 500 or 500x thanks
  18. Hi all, I've just bought Firehawk FX. I'm using it with Peavey Classic 30 in the 4CM setup. I've read all about the dreaded patch change latency problem but decided to give it a try instead. The latency of changing patches is ok for my purpose. It could be better but all in all my Peavey Classic 30 has a similar latency while switching between channels. BUT Everything is nice and ok unless I don't use the preamp of my Peavey in the effect loop. If that is the case the latency of patch switching reaches 1 second or more. The sound cuts and then slowly arises from zero. To give it simple: Guitar -> FX -> Send RCV in Peavey ----------- Patch Switching OK Guitar -> FX -> 4CM -------------------------------- Patch Switching with 1 second latency (sound arrising) Can it be a matter of the preamp of my Peavey that needs to somehow re-init if getting signal from INPUT or is it a problem of the Firehawk ? Please help, I don't know whether to return the unit because using it like this is impossible ... :/
  19. I'm loving the tones I've found on line and created on my Firehawk. The Bluetooth function and cloud search are priceless. Is there a way to print the current settings from the unit, other than create a separate Excel spreadsheet or Word doc? As I learn the capabilities, I'm changing tones so often it would be obsolete in 2 days. I'd sure like to have that list in front of me as I learn the patch locations.
  20. I originally planned on using setlists for different, um, sets. And then I’d select different banks for different songs, 16 banks is plenty for my sets. Then, within a song, a can select ABCD patches for different parts of the song – clean, crunch, lead, and maybe a high-gain lead or something. Then I also have FX 1, 2, 3 & 4 when I need something special for each of the 4 ABCD sounds. Sounds like a plan. I decided to save one of the 1,2,3,4 slots by relying on amp models for my distortion, like selecting between Soldano clean, crunch, and high gain. That way, I select ABCD for the type of distortion and use 1234 for delay, chorus, tremolo, and some other effect (compression, noise gate, reverb are always on – no need for a 1234 switch on those). The problem I’m finding is it takes 15msec for a new ABCD patch to load in (I measured it). This is too long. I can’t always anticipate the timing to punch it in, or I don’t have that much time. The audio is muted during this 15msec and you hear it when I switch between, say, clean rhythm to scorching lead. So, now I’m thinking about going back to 1-8 FX buttons and just bank selecting between songs. But then I’m stuck with a single amp model, which is workable I suppose by using more of the FX buttons to switch in different distortion FX, but not as flexible. So my question for the group is: what is your strategy in using setlists, banks, ABCD patches, and 1234 switches. How do you use them? Are you stuck with a single amp model for a given song? How do you overcome the 15msec audio mute when switching ABCD patches? When do you use ABCD patches and when do you use 1234 FX switches? Thanks for any insight you can provide me.
  21. So I was one of the fortunate ones to get a Helix as soon as it came out. The UI and the way to really get under the hood to make patches was a bit over my head, but out of the gate I had some pretty great sounding tones. Then came a bad software update and some glitches and my unit was replaced - Kudos to Line 6 for incredible customer service. Here's the problem, and maybe someone here can help me because I am at the point of sending this thing right back to Sweetwater. My original unit sounded great. Patches sounded big and real. On my new one, EVERYTHING sounds like the first Zoom multi Fx pedal I ever owned. Everything except the cleans sound super fizzy and plastic. I've tried rolling off highs, changing mics and placement, but nothing is working. I've used it on a few gigs and it's just awful. Any advice? Thanks

    Looper presets?

Hi guys! I'm sure this question has been answered before but i searched and searched and couldn't find any info on it. I'm wanting to have different loops saved into different patches. So when you go to a patch, a patch-specific loop plays. I have no idea if this is possible or not but I knew this would be the best place to ask. Thanks!
  23. I think it would very useful if users of the Firehawk had the option to assign pre-programmed tones to the top row of foot-switches FS1 – FS5. Effectively giving users 9 pre-set patches per bank. I guess this would mean losing the ability to turn stomps on and off on banks programmed in this way. Perhaps this could be an option per bank? So you either have, 4 patches with stomps on a bank… OR … 9 pre-set patches on a bank. To me it seems a relatively simple idea that could hopefully be included in a firmware update? I have submitted this on ideascale. So, if like me, you would find this a HUGE leap forward in the usability of this Multi-FX System, please VOTE HERE - http://line6.ideascale.com/a/dtd/FIREHAWK-assign-pre-programmed-patches-to-FS1-FS5/780844-23508 Cheers Mike :)
  24. I bought my mate's FX100 last week and have been very happy with it so far. I've created some tones and shared them to the Amplifi Remote cloud from the app. After I searched some genres in the tone search, I noticed some patches have half a white-colored star next to them, however I haven't been able to work out how to rate the patches myself. Some of the patches with these half stars are terrible and I'd like to reduce their rating if possible, to help other people avoid them (would also like to promote a couple which I've been really impressed with). How do you rate other people's patches? Or if can't, how do these star ratings (well, all I've seen so far is half-stars...) work?

    finding patches

Other than the customtone area on this site, is there any other good place to find patches? Preferably a large pack of them? I read somewhere there are places you can find thousands of patches. Thanks!
