  1. Hi, new to the forum and am the owner of a new Helix. I am..was MIDI illiterate, and tried to get info online on how to control my Invective with the Helix without much luck. Any threads regarding this topic usually had very vague information, probably with the notion that whoever was reading it already had an understanding of MIDI...which I didn't. So...this is for the people out there like me. Step one...plug in the footswitch that comes with the Invective and press the Channel 1 select button. Then press the Preset Mode button until all the buttons blink red. Then select Channel 1, and disconnect the footswitch from the amp. Insert MIDI cable from Helix...a 5 pin unlike the 8 pin that the Invective comes with into the amp. Next, go to Global Settings and select MIDI/TEMPO. Select Midi Base Channel as Omni. Then toggle to Preferences and make sure that Snapshot Edits are on "Recall"...not "Discard". Next..hit Menu, and select Command Center. I use the Instant Commands so I can use it with snapshots. Toggle over to Instant 1 in Bank/Program Mode. Set MIDI Channel to 1, leave the Bank CC00 and Bank CC32 blank. Then look in the Invective manual Pages 13-15, and select the Program number with the configuration that you want into the "Program" box in the Command Center. Exaple: If you want the 1st channel with Loop 1 on..enter 36 If you want the 3rd channel with the Gate, Boost, Master boost, and Loop 1 enter 59. It's so simple. I can't believe it took me as long as it did to figure out. And lastly, press save before leaving the Preset and all your settings will stick. I hope I can help some other clueless people like myself with these instructions.

The song is an original and I will be posting more videos regarding the bass, the overall mix, and the scheduled vocal production. I used Ownhammer Impulses again. You just can’t go wrong with these guys. OH 412 ENG V30 421-05 I used the PV Panama amp model which is modeled after the famous Peavey 5150 block letter.   4. Im trying to find a way to run my Helix LT live. Before i got it, my rig was a dual rectifier+ pedalboard into a Mesa 4x12, but i also use an EVH 5150iii and a Peavey 5150 both into their own EVH 4x12's for an overly bulky live stereo set up. Now, with the EVH/Peavey, i can plug into the fx return of both and get what i need coming out of the 4x12's, easily and simply like everyone says. But with my Dual Rectifier; holy cow is it noisy. Not only is there so much hissing, it is also just freakishly loud. By the time i get to 'room volume' the vol. knob on the helix is so low it isnt useful. Iv read somewhere on here about a guy with a Mesa Mark IV and it sounded like he had a similar problem, but a solution wasnt posted. i tried the 4cm, but im trying to bypass the head altogether so i can simulate one. The EVH+Peavey rigs are not mine, so i need to figure out the problem with my Mesa, or find a little FRFR setup; in which case i can use some power amp recommendations. Also getting a 50w EVH doesnt sound bad as i know i can plug straight into that fx return. Or am i simply overlooking something with the Dual Rec? Its an older model and isnt the quietest on it own; especially in the fx loop. But it should still be useful, right?

  9. I'm amazed at this little feature packed mini tube amp. Peavey out a 5 year warranty on this. I just started playing with this amp so I'll be back with more about it. Not as cool as the new Line 6 Helix but I can ad this to my HD500/DT50HD to make some good stereo....possibly. Still gotta hook it up and try it. A thread I created about it. Kind quick USB test recording using Ableton Live 8 and the HD500 in the FX Loop of the Amp. I had a wee bit of latency since I wasn't using ASIO.   10. I'm very happy with the way the HD 5150 amp has turned out. It's my favorite amp model on my Peavey Vypyr II amp, and it's now probably going to be my favorite on my HD500X. Having said that, it definitely needs some tweaks and adjustments to get a usable sound. To my ears, the default settings have way too much mosquito buzz and a little too much low end, but to be honest, the exact same is true with the 5150 model on my Vypyr amp, so I believe that those are just characteristics of the actual amp (but I've not played on a real 5150, so my experience is limited to modelers). I purposely recorded this clip with the default settings of the amp model to give an idea of the sound without any adjustments. The only exceptions are that I increased the mids about 12%, I added plate reverb and I added tape echo. Also, I did not add drums or bass when recording to let the guitar be fully heard. So, all of the items that to me need tweaked are still present in this clip, so you'll hear too much buzzyness. But again, this is purposely to give a demo of the raw sound of the amp without much tweaking. I plan on doing an A/B comparison with my Vypyr 5150 settings, which I have set the way I like, to get this more in line with that. Lowering the gain, lowering the presence, reducing the bass and treble a little, and a few other things should get this amp model sounding pretty good. http://www.mediafire.com/listen/2cxbx2idr74x726/PVPanamaAmpModel.mp3 Edit: I also meant to say that for this clip, I did not change the input settings to guitar/variax instead of guitar/same, so changing that may help, too.
  11. So I've had my HD500X for a little over a month now and I spent quite a bit of time, of course, creating usable tones that I like. I've used the POD with headphones, computer speakers, my Vypyr VIP 2 amp, and more recently, and old Crate PA/Mixer system that my parents used to use years ago and have now given to me. The Crate PA system really brought the tone to life and allowed me to get the tones dialed in the way I like them before using the POD live (although my wife wasn't happy about how much space it takes up :D ). I have to say that with the HD500X, my tone was the best it's been since I was much younger and used to use a Crate G120C amp when playing live. I play lead guitar at church, and I've been using my Peavey Vypyr VIP 2 amp with a Sure SM57. I love the Vypyr amp, and with the SM57 off-axis, I was able to get some decent tones live, but the problem is that the stage volume became an issue. The Vypyr doesn't have a line out, so I had to mic it, which would normally be fine, but In the church setting, if I turned the amp up loud enough to get a good fat mic'd tone, it would overpower the bass and keyboard players because of speaker beaming, and be overpowering in general for a church service. If I turned it down to keep that from happening, I'd end up with a good, albeit quieter, tone on stage, but the mic'd sound coming out of the PA was thin and weak because of not having enough volume for the mic to pick up a good source sound. So after tweaking and learning the POD for a month, I used it at practice and during the performances this past weekend. It made a huge difference in my sound. No longer having to worry about being too loud or too soft was great, and the tone I got through the PA system was the best I've had playing here. I used my Crate PA system and one of it's 2x8 speakers as a monitor, and placed it in front of me pointing away from the audience but toward my ears so that I could hear it pretty well without it being too loud. All in all, it's been a great experience and I'm pretty excited about using it from here on out.
