  1. I was hoping someone one here has tried a power cab and also a seymour duncan power stage into a 2x12 or 4x12 with their helix. I am digging my helix, but currently using a headrush frfr. The frfr is fine for home use, but once i play with people and crank it up, it just sounds like a cheaper two way speaker. There is no where for me to test out a powercab in my area and you tube doesn't really do any justice to actual in the room sounds a lot of times. I play mainly heavy distortion duel rec type stuff on vintage 30's. I was debating a powerstage 170 and a 2x12 with vintage 30's or a power cab plus 212. Just wondering if anyone can compare tone and feel. If the power cab plus has the same tone and feel, or at least really close, it would be nice to have the option to change speakers. I do miss the feel of a real 2x12 with the headrush. I apologize if this topic has been disused on here as I can not find it. If it has please direct me and ill read on!!!! Thanks!!!!
  2. Today we take a look at the Duncan PowerStage 170. A solid-state, 170 watt, floorboard sized power amp perfect for powering a guitar cab with the Line 6 Helix or the effects processor of your choice. I ended up using it to do a shootout of a few of my mics… Shure SM 57 Dynamic Shure SM 7B Cardioid Dynamic Blue Bluebird Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser Audio Technica AT 2035 Large-Diaphragm Condenser I routed DI signals from my DAW, through the Line 6 Helix Rack, and into the Seymour Duncan PowerStage powering an Overton 212. Thanks to my buddy Patrick for loaning me this beast. The mics were tracked using my Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo MkI The PowerStage is great. It gets SUPER LOUD with plenty of headroom for stage sound. I kept the 3 band EQ flat for this test. Some pretty great results. I was blown away at how these mics sound. **MAKE NOTE** I kept referring to the Audio Technica AT 2035 as the “ATH 2035.” Apologies My buddy Patrick aka “Gunderslam” https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoZORROIhtqek7Tl329vGPg Seymour Duncan PowerStage 170 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/PowerStage170--seymour-duncan-powerstage-170-170-watt-pedal-board-guitar-amp-head Shure SM 57 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SM57--shure-sm57 Shure SM 7B https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SM7B--shure-sm7b-cardioid-dynamic-vocal-microphone Blue Bluebird https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BluebirdSL--blue-microphones-bluebird-sl-large-diaphragm-condenser-microphone Audio Technica ATH 2035 https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AT2035--audio-technica-at2035-large-diaphragm-condenser-microphone nickhillmakesmusic@gmail.com
  3. Hi, Was hoping to get some thoughts from people on amplification solutions for the Helix and I've narrowed my options down to either a Powercab Plus (possibly two to run stereo, but that could be overkill) or get a Seymour Duncan Powerstage 700 and run through my current speaker cabs. I know that the Powercab Plus will give me more versatility with the different speaker models, but I'm also interested in the SD Powerstage with my current 212 cabs to save some space, as well as keeping things simple because I'm not sure I need all of the flexibility of the PC+. Is there anyone here with experience with either one of these (or both) that could help me out? That is, make a good case for either solution with sounds being the primary focus, and not think too much about the cost. Thx. B.O.G
  4. Hi Everyone, Creating this topic to check if someone has tried the SD's powerstage (power amp > cab) on a live situation. The reason why I ask is for me to decide whether to go for an axe fx or keep using the pod. I mainly use the pod for live use and I guess, won't be using it for any recording stuff. Most forum suggests the axe-fx but I'm having second thoughts as I may just be wasting money as most of the people in the forum are using it for recording. I'm doing live shows and I mostly use Mesa or Fender as my amps for dirt and cleans (sometimes tweed or ac30). Hope someone can chime in their experiences. I'm not here to bash anything, just wanted to get an honest opinion on the pro's and con's as far as my usage is concerned. Thanks in advance.
