I finally found a great deal on a (not) scratch n dent V-Standard at SW, and after 2.2 days I'm starting to get blown away. Let me back up. I entered the modeling realm with an HD500 when they were fresh (what, 2010?), thinking that I'd have more capability than the Spider Valve MkI that amazed me. First thing I noticed on the POD was that all the stock presets sucked. Playing at very low volume, I had to develop my own, which relied on a fair bit more gain than I'd normally go for in order to achieve any kind of crunch. I moved from FRFR to DT amps, but still, always kinda had more gain than I wanted (except when I went totally clean with the lovely Twin model). I picked up a Variax 600 and finally reached "dream rig" status, but really only liked the Strat models, Tele neck, and the Rick bridge. The alt tunings seemed kinda crappy too. Most of the other electric models were just too loud--much louder and with more gain than my real guitars with hot pups. When I first tried my new V-Standard, it was looking like more of the same (except usable mags). So I wondered, how do I get away from my presets with too much gain and into presets that work for my Variax? In an epiphany of sorts, I started trying out all those presets in my HD500 that sucked, and guess what? NO MO SUCKY! They're amazing, for the most part. Also, to my surprise, they all have variax settings already. So all I had to do was plug my dream rig in, using an ethernet cable and the digital L-6 Link, and now folks, I hardly have to tweak, I can just play my heart out! Turns out those patches were very well crafted using Variaxes of some kind, and so far about 2/3 are keepers! Has anyone else noticed this as well, or am I the first to stumble on this total treasure chest? The magnetic pickups are pretty sweet too! But the other thing I'm really thrilling over is the neck on the Variax Standard. I was afraid that something this flat, this thin, and with medium frets might not work for my aging knuckles, but I gotta tell you that even with 10's at concert pitch this thing is a joy for my hand! It's the most comfortable neck I've felt since the Japanese Variax 700 I've been wishing I'd have bought--and that's saying a lot. I do have questions: Is the light on the alt tuning knob supposed to be only momentary (unless you go to the "model" position)? I wish the thing would stay lit in mag mode so I could dial up the tuning I want without activating all those other tunings in between. Does anybody know how hard it would be to change pick guards? I'm thinking white would look very sweet with my sunburst brown... THANKS!!! Mike

The spider remote has 4 user banks. How do I save a preset to one of those banks. Thank you.

I'm new to Helix, having used it for about 3 weeks. I have had no history of working with modeling equipment and software. I've gone through most of Jason Sadites' tutorials - very instructive and helpful. I am interested in developing some presets for jazz guitars, particularly hollow bodies such as the D'Angelico Excel EXL1. I'm looking for a clean, round sound. I've attached a preset I made with dual amps and cabs, hopefully to give more depth to the tone. I'm using a Roland 40 amp, but plugging the Helix into the effects jack on the back; this appears to bypass the preamp. The tone was created for the D'Angelico. I applied some compression to the lows and highs of both modeled amps to decrease muddiness and too bright tonalities. I used EQs to specifically target frequencies which feed back on the guitar. Any thoughts/assistance in the elements and/or layout of the preset would be much appreciated. Randall RBS JC40 EXL1b.hlx

As I run my Line 6 UX 2 today, all the presets were gone. I refreshed the presets in the tab and after it it was empty. Newest software has been downloaded but this has not fixed my problem.

Hi, Anyone use Snapshots and Non Snapshot presets? Current snapshots doesn't give me enough space for additional foot switchable effects.

Hi, I am new to using digital equipment (analog guy) and I replaced my pedal board for an HX Effects. Amp channel switching works fine in preset mode. However, if I want to switch to another preset, there is this short time of no sound, to load the other preset. Here comes in the snapshots, so that problem is solved. But now i cannot use amp channel switching in snapshot mode. Is there solutions/workaround to be able to switch between channels AND without that short period of nothing to load another preset or sound? I hope somebody has an answer to this.

I'm loving my Helix for live use and recording. To bring this powerful unit over the top I think LINE 6 should petition/hire Pete Thorn to create and share his presets for the HELIX. I recently watched a Pete Thorn video where he set up a Helix to act as a backup should his amp setup run into technical issues. Given this musician's talent for creating tones, I would imagine these to be VERY realistic sounding patches. In addition, I participated in a chat where Pete himself said he would be game for creating something for Line 6 :-) What do you think Line 6/Helix users?

Hello all, I have an Amplifi 150. When the amp is not connected to a bluetooth phone or tablet, it has 4 "favorite" presets accessible trough the TONE button. To which bank on the remote app do these presets correspond? Bank 1 or the user bank 25 at the end of the list? Thanks.

I just bought a used Line 6 Spider 3 HD150 head from Guitar Center. I powered it up and started to play (through headphones as I do not yet have the cab for it) and it worked fine for about 30 seconds. I looked down at my FBX longboard and noticed that it had switched banks by itself from Bank 2 to Bank 3. I switched it back to Bank 2 and the preset channel I was using, then the sound cut out. After 2 seconds it came back. Then it started doing it over and over. I noticed it was actually powering off and on repeatedly. Any advice on steps I should take to correct the issue? I have 45 days to return it if I can't fix it. Thanks in advance.

My PODHD500 custom presets were deleted once I synced my HD500 with HD500 Edit. Do I have to start over or is there a way to get them back?

Okay, I can't seem to find an answer to this online. All of a sudden, my global settings aren’t saving. I had it set to snap/stomp mode, and 10 switches, but whenever I power it on now, it goes to preset mode and doesn't save the mode I previously set it to. Also, my Helix used to power up on the same preset it was on when powered down, now it just goes to 1A Factory Preset. The only thing I changed was, I was messing with the midi settings the other night, trying to get a midi foot controller I have, to talk to and control the Helix, so I may have changed a midi channel or preference, but that's it.

This thing doesn't come with many and I'm sure there are some talented peeps out there that have made some good ones...Should be easy to share with the editor, right?

Hi Guys Im having problems using Helix to control MainStage. I have set up Helix to have a preset for each song in my set, I want MainStage to have a playback and metronome click for each preset. I have successfully got Helix and MS synced up so when I change presets it changes patches on MS using an instant command in command centre. I also set up 2 switches on my Helix for each patch, one to turn on the metronome, the other to turn on a playback in MS. That works fine. However when I change presets using the Helix it also immediately fires either the metronome or the playback neither of which I want to happen. Ive tried all sort of combinations in MS but can't seem to stop it happening. Im no expert in midi so maybe my commands are wrong - Im using CC toggle commands for the playback and metronome but have no idea what CC# means so have tried different numbers which does nothing. Then I read on this forum that when Helix sends PC commands it also send all the other commands as well so Im wondering if this is the issue. Any help on this would be appreciated

Hi, I'm still getting to grips with my Helix after a few months, so this might not be the right question! I mostly use my Helix with Headphones once the kids are in bed. I've got an entry level set of Audio-Technica ATH-M40X Headphones, which seem to have a reasonably flat response compared to my old entry level Sennheisers. I also have a pair of Mackie 4" monitors. I also use both for my PC. In terms of setup, I'm sending the Helix signal to the Speakers/Headphones via the 1/4" out, through a small Behringer mixer. I'm also mixing the PC sound through the mixer. This way I can jam to backing tracks on my PC, which is 90% of my usage. I've got a bunch of presets including paid for ones from Glenn DeLaune, Fremen, Marco Fanton and Ben Vesco (I recommend them all btw!) Some sound great on Headphones, others just don't work as well. I appreciate that headphones aren't moving as much air as a speaker, but interestingly, most sound better when I connect the headphones to the Headphone Out on the Helix. Does anyone have any suggestions to experiment with, in the preset EQ/settings? Thanks

I'm running an FX100 paired to an iPad and generally enjoy most of the sounds and functionality it provides. The one nagging thing that I'd like an answer to is this; When I work from the iPad, go to "my tones" and select one, the tone obviously changes but the FX100 displays the old patch and won't change to what I've selected. Anyone have a fix for this? Much appreciated.

Has anyone else noticed any strange behaviours with writing tones to my tones? I am prompting the fire hawk fx to "save to my tones" which I would assume would over write any pre-existing tones (compared to save to my tones as) with that exact same title - however it often creates duplicates or sometimes three or four variations. Anyone notice this? I feel like if there's any slight difference in the patch - even if you use save to my tones it will create another version

Hi totally new here I've been searching around and can't find what I think should be a simple answer in plan english. I used to have an M13 where in latch mode you can load like 12 completely different presets at once. I am looking into buying a 500X but it looks like you can only have 4 presets loaded at once with another four "assigned" pedals for the top row? Is that right? It seems limiting?

Hi all, I just bought a Firehawk FX and had a question about changing tones and banks on the iOS app vs on the pedal itself. When I change tones on the pedal, the app will reflect the change and highlight the active tone. However, when I change them through the app, the sound will change, but the pedal does not reflect it. For example, say I have the pedal set to bank 1, tone A and switch A is illuminated . Then I scroll down and choose tone D from bank 4 in the app. The sound will change, and the pedal's LED display shows the correct name, but switch A is still illuminated. If I then step on any of the other footswitches, A-D, the tones default back to bank 1, or whichever bank the pedal was last set to through the switches. So I effectively can't change the bank in the Firehawk app, and then choose a preset tone from that bank with the footswitches. Is this normal?

Has there been any talk or discussion about adding 'Compare' functionality on the Helix, whereby you can commence tweaking a stored preset, and go back and forth between the modified preset and the stored preset? That would really be an advantage when editing - especially when tweaking IR's and then comparing. Is there some way to achieve this now? Also - I've seen discussion about having presets for effects blocks. My simple way around this is to store my favorite settings as individual blocks in a scratch-pad source preset, and then just copy the block from that preset to the preset that I'm working on. Not pretty or elegant, but maybe a smidgen faster than manually manipulating every parameter. I store the go-to blocks in a few scratch presets that I can get to quickly. I then use the Copy Block and Paste Block functionality to Copy a block from a scratch preset, and then Paste it into the preset I'm working on. If I'm working in a different Bank, I just copy my scratch presets to the bank I'm working in.

New to HD500x :) I assume a 'preset' is a collection of effects/amps you set up yourself - like a 'patch' in similar products Can you assign separate presets to each of the footswitches on the HD500x? eg. Say I have 2 presets: 1) 'HeavyMetalManiac' (dist, delay, wah) for solos 2) 'FunkyGibbon' (comp, phaser, reverb) for rhythm Is there a way to assign HeavyMetalManiac to fs1 and FunkyGibbon to fs2 or any other fs? So I can toggle between the 2 easily without having to scroll though all my presets OR Do the switches essentially only allow for turning off specific effects within the current preset? Does ABCD mode allow this? Thanks

Hello All, I just got my Helix today and I'm trying to customize it to exactly how I'd like to use it, but I've got a question that there may not currently be an answer to: Is it possible to copy a snapshot from one preset and paste it into a different preset? Here is why I would like to do this: I lead worship services that typically consist of somewhere around 4 songs. I'm planning on having a rig on a single preset in which each snapshot consists of the settings for each song. If possible, I'd like the ability to store and recall the various songs/snapshots for future instances of doing any one of those particular songs. I realize I wouldn't be able to change any of the blocks in the rig by doing it this way, but I'm okay with that. I feel like if (for example) Preset 01A and Preset 01B have everything the same the Snapshots from one to the other should be compatible. Of course, I realize nothing in software is as simple as it sounds, but is there anything like this, that is to say storing snapshots so they can be pasted into other presets, currently possible on the Helix or maybe something that could happen in the future?
