  1. Okay so I know Helix isn’t made for this but it almost works! I have a Behringer UMC404 which I use 3 mics plugged into XLR inputs. works great. but I’d like to use a compressor and some vocal effects live. I’ve gone from the Behringer to the Helix via the inserts on the back using a Y cable into the send and return of the effects loop o the helix. It works but I think because the helix output is Send 1/2 Send 3/4 for some reason, The first mic in input one suddenly picks up Mic input 2. so what I mean is when I use the mic plugged into the first input it also comes through input 1 and 2. everything else is fine except I can’t seem to get input 1 and 3 to be serperate. im sure no one has done this and not much advice but if anyone has an idea please let me know! sorry for my grammar etc I’m typing Ona. Japanese keyboard and English is hard to change to.
  2. So I've recently starting experimenting with Reaper. I've been recording directly into the Reaper via my Helix, however I think the overall sound could probably be tweaked a little. BUT I'm not sure how or where to start.. Do I need additional software or programs to be able to do that? Or can I do that via Reaper? Ideally, what would be the best way? (the simpler the better for me!) Thanks.
  3. Quick question, I recently bought a spider 5 the 60 watt one. I went to download the cubase software and once I got the downloader app running I noticed there were about 22 different programs within cubase to download. For example Cubase pro 9.5, Cubase artist 9.5, Absolute collection 2, 3, and many more. So my question is which ones am I suppose to download for recording on my computer directly through the spider 5 or should I just download them all?
  4. I've been trying for about 2 days to no success. I followed all the steps on the Cubase Help site that and set the driver to the spider and the inputs to the spider as well but when I press record nothing happens. Can someone please help set me up? I have no idea how to record my amp on Cubase Le
  5. +I read a thread recently that was really high on using a Radial Dragster with the POD XT, or any type of amp sim. Anyone else use the Dragster with their POD? How did it work out for ya? I don't have an amp at the moment, so I'm looking for anything (that's fairly cheap) to improve my guitar tone when recording. Right now I'm just plugging the POD XT's L+R outputs into two of my interface's line inputs.
  6. Good evening, im not sure if this is in the right section but its better than nothing. I was wondering if there is a way that I can directly record from my amp to Logic pro X. This is the amp I have. I had plugged in a usb type b port from my amp to my macbook and i tried all options and i couldn't find anything on logic pro x. The closest i came to having the sound recorded was by having the mac microphone here the noise of my amp (surround noise, not direct input). Basically I guess im trying to record the sound that my amp makes to logic pro x. Is that possible or no? (also, my spider v remote mac app is not recognizing my amp which i find weird since ive attached them both). Thanks, Sev
  7. Hey guys, I have had my Helix for about 2 months now and I am staring to use it as a DAW for recording and I am getting excellent results. However the one thing I am struggling with a bit is getting a good vocal sound. I created a couple of mic based presets to use, and they are ok, but they could be alot better. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some settings that might help. I want at least 2 settings. One for harsh vocals that would be crisp and edgy but still sound "big". and a second for warm melodic vocals that will be clear and clean but still have that sense of space to it. I know that any tone sound is subjective, but any tips on how to get started creating good mic tones would be great. Another issue I have is input volume. I record direct from the Helix to my laptop. I use the program Reaper to record my tracks. I find that when I bring in a new track, I seem to have no control of the currently inputting instrument monitor volume from the mixer in Reaper so it is really hard to balance the volume so I can hear playback when recording. The Volume knob on the Helix seems to do nothing. I have been adjusting for this by changing the patch output levels, as this seems to be the only way to level it out. But I am worried that this will cause reduced gain in the recording. Any tips on managing this volume issue?
  8. Hi, I am pretty new on home studio. I have been playing gigs all the time and went to studios to record. Unfortunately I don't have any idea about recording setup. I've got a Line 6 SPider V 240HC and a Mac with Logic Pro, but no audio interface. How can I record guitar track on Logic Pro using my Spider v 240 HC. Thanks
  9. Hi Everyone, I do a lot of recordings, guitar and backing tracks. I've always done so with an external multitrack recorder. It would be a lot more convenient if I could record on my laptop connecting my helix via USB. I have tried this many different ways and gotten mainly frustration. I wish Line 6 offered their own PC multitrack recorder that was certain to work well with their products. What I wish would work, is like this, I plug my helix into my PC by USB, and plug my headphones into my PC (not my Helix) and pull my backing track into my recording software, play along and record. I have not been able to make this work. The only thing that I got working was plugging my headphones into my helix, playing along with my backing tracks, which sounds good, but the recordings sound crap due to latency. Can anybody advise me, is what I want possible?
  10. Hi All, I am looking for free DAW software and i found Cakewalk from Bandlab and would like to share this tip with you. So far, i think it's the best DAW software available for free. It looks very nice and does an amazing good job ! At home i am using it to record tracks directly from my Helix LT over USB. And it works like a charm. As i am fond of sharing tips and tricks, i wrote a small tutorial for installing and first use of Cakewalk to record directly from the Line 6 Helix (LT) You can find the tutorial here ! Hope you will find it handy en will enjoy it !
  11. Hello, I'm planning to start recording and I have a huge problem with my gear. When any noise goes through my microphone (Shure SM57) and my sound card (Line6 UX2) it goes out of tune, something like half a step lower, no matter if pod farm is on or not. People I chatted with have noticed it and it makes recording impossible. I don't know whether the problem comes from my sound card, my microphone or myself, and I would like some help, I have no idea what's happening.
  12. Hi Everyone..been awhile since I posted ...here is SuMo (supermassivemomentum) newest live session. Recorded live over the internet from remote locations, Mastered at 96k. Experimental progressive improvisation, lots of guitar and bass craziness..heavy, grooving.. I use HELIX (2.54) and Variax.....powerful ! have a listen! Comments welcome https://hearthis.at/joejeffries/sumo-2018-5-11/
  13. Been recording with the Line 6 helix as my primary audio interface. Works ok for guitar parts, with direct monitoring but as soon as I switch to virtual instruments, anything below 256 samples gives me some clicks and pops. 256 samples has a latency of around 8-9 ms. I have been considering getting an Audient ID14. Questions: 1. Will this improve the latency situation for use with Virtual instruments? (soft synths, kontakt etc....) 2. How do I connect the Helix to the SPDIF in on the Audient? 3. Will I have to keep changing the sample rate on the Audient when moving from Helix recording to VI recording etc. etc.? 4. Will I have to connect the Helix both via a line out and via SPDIF to acheive reamping functionality? I also welcome suggestions for other interfaces. 300 USD max please...
  14. Hello, my name is Bart and I just got my line 6 UX2 sound card a few weeks ago and started using it last week. I also installed cubase 9.5 to use it for recording (not a crack, real). I connected my Yamaha P115 digital piano via sound cable to the UX2's instrument - normal input and then connected the UX2 to my PC via USB. I was told by one of your staffs that with this setup, I would be able to hear the sound(s) of my P115 on cubase, not the sounds found on the program cubase itself. I have tried checking the program carefully for anything that I could be missing but I had a bit of trouble doing so, for cubase seems a bit complicated to use. Could you help me out please?
  15. I'm having trouble recording using the Firehawk...I've tried both using the direct connection through USB and using the balanced outputs to a recording interface. I'm using Windows 10 with Ableton software. Ableton recognizes the Firehawk and can configure either as an MME/Direct input or ASIO. The problem I have is that the signal coming out from the Firehawk is WAY too loud. It comes in pretty much clipping even when I'm not playing loudly or when the master volume is low. I use a looper so as I add layers it starts to clip and distort and it just sounds awful. What comes out of the speakers sounds great, so it's nothing to do with the processing on the front end...I just can't figure out how to turn down the signal on the USB or direct outs. I should mention that when I run the direct outs, I have tried turning down the output volume on the interface, so the "volume" coming into Ableton is lower but the actual signal is still clipped. Similarly, I can turn down the individual track volume within Ableton but it doesn't make a difference...it's the original signal that is messed up.
  16. Hi. I've been trying to record the amp via the USB connection straight into my PC then into Cubase LE. But I get sound from the amp and from my computer speakers, and the sound from the computer speakers are delayed just a bit. I'm assuming that since we get a copy of Cubase LE that this is all supposed to work correctly. So what am I doing wrong? Are we supposed to use a recording interface? And if so, how do you connect the Spider amp to it? Confused.

  18. I am using the Helix as an Audio Interface after my 'trusty'!!! A & H Firewire desk no longer wanted to communicate with my DAW. Firstly I cant seem to record from the pc or Internet directly into my daw for some reason, any ideas why?(eg you tube to Cakewalk). Secondly am I able to record from an cassette player (2 ins r and l) as my dad recently passed and im trying to record onto pc his live recordings? Many Thanks.
  19. So I’m a bit late to the game with this and don’t want to shell out the cash for the Helix, so I just got my Firehawk FX a few days ago. All seemed fine except for two aspects. The first is that the firmware update through the Update Utility always fails. I’ve tried following what the Utility says to do in terms of turning the pedal on while holding the preset A and preset C switches but the updates continue to fail. My second issue, and a big on for me as I was hoping to replace my BlackStar ID with this pedal is that when I record the playback audio is of my guitar detuned somewhere between a half and full step. Furthermore, the playback crackles. Has anyone else experienced these issues? Is it maybe due to the firmware updates not going through? I am running through a Relay G10 but I don’t think that would cause these issues. Thanks in advance!
  20. I am trying to layer 4 guitar tracks, 2 hard left and right and 2 not so hard left and right. I have noticed when I double up on tracks and lets say they are both centered or both in the left or right they sound weird. They sound like there is a flange on them or some sort of modulation effect. I figured it might have to do with phase but even that seems odd. I am forced to pan only 2 tracks hard left and right or my guitar tracks sound very weird. Anyone know what is going on? I might just stick to modeling guitar amps with VST plugins instead as I did not have that issue using those. Thank you!
  21. Hi there, I'm a proud Helix user since a week and after playing an ENGL e606 Ironball head for a long time, I must admit that this awesome piece of a modeler is now a serious competitor... love it! I just wanted to ask if there is a way of signal routing which allows me to: 1. record a rythm loop 2. solo over it and then record both on seperate tracks in my DAW (Logic Pro X / Mixcraft 8). So I want the recorded looper playback on track #1 and my lead playing on track #2. Is that possible? Many thanks in advance :)
  22. Hi All, Basically what i'm after is to be able to record 3x wet signals at the same time via a suitable audio interface into my DAW. Set up consists of a pod hd 500, Yamaha digital piano & electric drum kit. The main issue i've encounted while searching for a suitable interface is the lack of line inputs. I was looking at the Focusrite 6i6 as it's in my price range, but I was unsure how i'd connect all 3 instruments? I'd planned on running the pod hd500 in to the interface via the XLR Out on the pod to the line input of the audio interface (via XLR to TRS 1/4) here is the problem... the research I've done also recommends connecting the digital piano via the same set up (R ----- L\+R out to audio interface line input) & i'd like to run the same type of connection to the electric kit... Is this as simple as me having to fork out the extra cash for a higher end audio interface, or can I run these 3 instruments via a different set up into the audio interface? I'd even be happy being able to record 2 wet signals at once. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks :)
  23. Can the Amplifi FX100 be used for an effects looped? Clean guitar track from DAW / to interface / to FX100 / back to Interface / to DAW record track. Any recommendations on the best way to use/setup the Amplifi FX 100 for recording will be appreciated. Thanks
  24. So I recently got a UX1. I want to record both instrument and vocal at the same time on separate channels. I've set the inputs so both are coming in on POD farm, and in POD farm there is a REC tone A and REC tone B, meaning both can recorded separately. However, when I use software to record it only pics up the first output, and not the second. I can use REC A&B to record both at once but I'd like to record each on a separate channel. Is there a way of doing this. Apologies if it's not too clear, I'm new to technical gear. Until now I've been recording with a zoom mic and editing in sony Vegas. I've attached a screenshot of my setup on POD farm.
