    Pod Hd Volume

Up until last week I've always had problems getting levels and volume from the POD at consistently the same level so that you can switch from high gain models to clean without tweaking the amp settings, mixer setting and master output all the time. Set it in the house for a gig, then find at the gig sound check you need to adjust, then when people soak up all the sound have to adjust again. Also the sound tone has been alright but never really performed like some of the tones you here when you play some professional samples on-line. I'd always put his down to signals levels (mic, inst, line etc) and the combination of the stack, direct, combo and power and the amp. To some extent this is true but I've got a pretty good amp Blackstar HT20 and have never quiet got the tones out of it via the POD that I do when going the guitar to amp route. I'd tried 4 cable method to stop pre-amp stacking, HD direct to the fx return loop to go to the power amp side etc and all sorts of other combinations including DI's and monitors to try and work out the differences. I accept that there will be a little different but some of my tones were pretty crap sounding and I couldn't seem to work out why. I realised last week that everything you do with settings above is all about the carrier levels not the musical signal wave where the tone is. The lights came on and I had the tools to do something about it also. So hooked the POD HD direct to Reason and used that as the HD ASIO interface rather than the Balance. Fired up the BIG meter set to VU and Peak with the hold level marked and switched in a couple of patches. Levels very messy and all over the place transient clipping, VU hitting red + dB's, it's digital so if you do that it's never going to sound great. Left POD HD output to stack and little black switch to amp and started systematically on the POD HD using the Amp drive and volume plus the Mixer output to get the VU to about -16dB and checking that the peak didn't take too far an excursion. The other thing that instantly jumped out at me was left/right panning and the routing, I'd normally just run one chain panned to the middle. However keep the signal path 1 left and signal path 2 right you get a VU and Peak at the same level, pan either one and they'll deviate, obvious when you see it but not intuitive as the sneaky channel 2 chain can have an impact with nothing on it really. With my amp Levels great, Volume great, Master now is a volume signal master regardless of the amp patch's and effects. - Happy days, just have to try it with another amp at the next practice to see if it is now really plug and play. Maybe should have posted this to the knowledge base but thought I share as it's solved one of my headaches. Jason
  2. My question is this, Is there a deffinitave guide as to what the effects parameters for the POD DH 500X do? I know what the majority of the settings are related to, IE Feedback, Mix and so on, the ones that have me stumped are things like Spread, Offset? Looked through all of the available guides for the POD HD 500 X and the HD 500, no explanation as to how to use these setting. TIA for any help Dragon
  3. I've had my HD500 for about three months now and there's one thing that's bothered me this whole time, and I'm not sure if I missed it in the manual or if it's just not possible. There are certain effects (mostly the Opto Tremolo, Reverse Delay, and Analog Flanger) that I choose to get a specific sound and effect that I never change across patches. For example, I always set the mix for the tremolo at 34% so it's not too crazy - and while this one parameter is a quick fix, the several parameters that I change in the Reverse Delay, Flanger, etc. are not as easy to change and frustrate me every time I have to set it up for a new patch. Is there a way to have the HD500 load different default parameters for a "pedal" than those it originally started with? I find it ridiculous that every tremolo starts with 100% mix and depth leading to a very ugly sound whenever you choose its effect. In other words, when I'm making a new patch and add an opto tremolo effect, can I have it load with 34% mix automatically, rather than 100%?
  4. 5. I'm playing at home, so trying to keep things relatively quiet, but I'd like to get the best sound possible from the various Spider setting options (I'm all over the map, jazz, rock, blues, country). Am I going to get better sound quality if I turn the channel volume up on the amp and down on the guitar, or down on the amp and up on my guitar. I've been messing around and amp down/guitar up sometimes seems better, but I'm not sure. And if that's the way to go, how far down on the amp should I turn the volume? So, simply put: which guitar volume and amp drive, channel volume, and bass/mid-range/treble settings will give me the best sound quality at low volume?
  6. For those of you using the HD500(X) directly into a PA, I am just curious what kind of volume settings you are using. Here is what I have been doing. Just looking to see what the "best practice" would be for this and see if I am on the right track: I am using the Left(mono) 1/4" output into a direct box and then to the mixer. The direct box is set to "Instrument", which seems to be a louder signal than "Line". I turn up the Master Volume dial all the way on the HD500X unit. The volume level on my amps is typically set to around 60, give or take depending on the amount of drive being used and which amp it is. While creating patches, I make a practice of switching between a bunch of them to ensure that my volume levels are fairly consistent. I am also setting the L and R mixer settings to "Center" for all patches, which definitely increases the volume level compared to the default where they are panned fully left and right, respectively. I am not concerned about stereo since we are not running a stereo mixer anyway. One thing to note is that when I am creating the patches, I am using my speakers at home (headphone output) and have the Master Volume at about 1/3 since maxing it out would blow out the speakers and be way too loud for comfort. Basically, I am trying to pump a decent signal level to the mixer, have consistent volume levels between patches and not produce any clipping. So far, my method seems to work. I have tested things out over the PA and actually stood out in the seating area of the room (using a long enough cord) to listen to what it sounds like. I have not noticed any clipping problems over the PA. Let me know your thoughts on this and what methods you are using. Thanks.
  7. I'm still getting the hang of my IV 150 and haven't found any help elsewhere so hopefully y'all have some experience with this. I've noticed that when playing softly or when two notes are ringing out (maybe during a bend) the volume cuts in and out very subtly, like a tremolo almost. This mostly happens with the high gain models and I'm pretty sure it's happening because the strings volume kind of fades in and put while being held. I think half of the 'signal' is getting caught by the noise gate. I was wondering if anyone has a favorite setting they like for NR, Gate or Gate+NR? Or do you recommend using it at all? I've read some people just turn it off altogether.
  8. good evening. does anybody know if a chart with all the default settings (effects & co.) exist for POD XTs? something like below: preset comp (gate) stomp mod delay cab/ a.i.r. 2A off off off off on 2B on on on off on 2C on off off off off 2D off off off off on i'd need that to program better a Behringer FCB1010 UnO and, due to midi messages exchange, i need to know which ones are active in each preset, to avoid sending every midi message at changing bank/preset.
  9. I am new here so I apologize if this has been asked. I am looking for a place where there settings or post of settings for different songs. Could be for flirtin with disaster, ZZ Top sounds, or something as simple as some Eagles music. Thank you.
  10. Hello, Please help me figure what it the best way to configure this setup. This is what I have: Variax JTV69 - HD500X - L2t These are my Questions: 1.- What would be the optimum output mode on the HD500X when using with the L2t? - Studio/Direct? - should I always use the PRE amp models? 2.- What would be the optimum speaker mode on the L2t when using with the HD500X? - Does the L2t auto select the speaker mode depending on the preset? it auto selects Electric guitar - Are this speaker modes able to be saved in the HD500X presets? 3.- What would be the best Speaker mode of the L2t when using the Variax acoustic models thru the HD500? - How can I Best reproduce or send this sound thru the FOH? Your opinion and advice will be Greatly appreciated.
  11. Hi - I am looking for a certain tone and can't seem to get it out of my Line 6 Spider IV - the following songs are lost on me: - Black Dog - Led Zeppelin - Midnight Rambler - Rolling Stones - LIVE (Get Yer Yayas Out CD best example) - lead and rhythm - Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones - LIVE (Get Yer Yayas Out CD best example) - lead and rhythm - Remedy - Black Crowes Does anyone know these settings? Any help or similar 'sound' settings is appreciated. Thanks much! Steve
  12. I've got the channel volume all the way up, I've adjusted the level to +12 dB, but no matter what, the preloaded songs, the microphone, the other guitar settings like metal and crunch are WAY louder - makes it really hard to use the clean setting at all, which is too bad, because i like to lay a rhythm with an acoustic guitar. When i do so, I have to turn the master volume up so high that there is a lot of hiss and turn whatever other tracks i'm adding way down in order to get any sort of balance. Very frustrating. Any ideas?

  16. Firmware v2.09 Release Notes: Eliminated slight delay when entering Record mode. Fixed problem with extended-ascii characters in file names. Fixed Undo issue for recordings loaded directly from SD-Card, where the last two overdubs would be erased instead of only the most recent one. v2.09 Firmware Update Instructions: After you download the v2.09 update to your computer, please click here for step by step instructions on how to install the update. (Instructions are for v2.07, but they are essentially the same for v2.09. Note: If you are updating from v2.07, you can skip Step 4 -- no need to power up your Spider Jam with the SD card inserted -- simply insert SD card with power on as described in Step 3, then proceed to Step 5). Note: SD Card must be no larger than 2 GB capacity! Spider Jam Advanced Guide: For in-depth info on features and functionality of the Spider Jam not included in the Pilot's Handbook, check out: Spider Jam Advanced Guide. WARNING: BACK UP YOUR FILES! The v2.09 update will erase all the internal recordings you have made. If you want to save them, use an SD card to create backups (via the TRANSFER ALL TO CARD command) then copy them from your SD card onto your PC for safe keeping (using an SD card reader). You can then reload your files using an SD card at any time after you have completed the update. The v2.09 update will erase all the custom guitar presets you have made. Here are the instructions on Saving and Loading the presets to and from the Spider Jam: STORING PRESETS Created a User Tone and Saved it to a user location. In the SETTINGS/TONE menu, please make sure RECORDINGS SET TONE is set to ON. Made a recording with that guitar tone and save the recording to the internal memory. Do this for every preset you would like to store. In the SAVE menu, select the TRANSFER ALL TO CARD option. All of your recordings and their associated tone will be saved to the SD card. [*]LOADING PRESETS To transfer them back into the amp, go to the SAVE menu and choose the TRANSFER ALL FROM CARD option. This will load the recordings and the associated presets back onto the Spider Jam. Now, when you load a recording that was transferred onto the Spider Jam from the SD Card, the preset that was stored with the recording will be loaded with the recording. It will show in the SETTINGS/TONE menu with an asterisk (*) next to the name. To store this preset back into the Spider Jam User presets, go to the SAVE menu and select SAVE GUITAR TONE to store the preset in the User location you desire. Note: If you are updating from v1.04, you should back up your recordings by connecting a recording device to your Spider Jam RCA Outputs/JM4 Stereo Line Out (tape or hard disk recorder, computer sound card, etc.) then record them as you would any other recorded material in real time. (Tip: Record them in WAV format at 44.1, 16 bit mono; that way you can reload them into your Spider Jam later). Instructions for updating (also attached): 1. If you haven't done so already, download the latest firmware to your computer desktop from the Line 6 website (log in with your Line 6 User Name) here: Spider Jam 2.09 Firmware. The downloaded file will be named "fw.bin", with no number. Please save this to your desktop to easily find the file once the file has been downloaded. Note: You will need to delete any previous Spider Jam updates from your desktop prior to saving the Spider Jam 2.09 firmware, as the both devices will not recognize any firmware with an extension or name alterations. 2. Copy the downloaded fw.bin file to a blank SD card via an SD card reader. When the copy is complete, put the downloaded fw.bin file in a safe place on your PC for future reference -- for example, put it in a new folder labeled 'Spider Jam Flash', noting the version number. 3. Insert your SD card into the Spider Jam SD card slot. Note: Spider Jam owners running v1.04 should press and hold the SAVE button while powering up the Spider Jam (release SAVE after Spider Jam powers up from the SD card). 4. Press the SAVE button to display the menu items in the LCD if they aren't already displayed. 5. Turn the wheel and navigate to FIRMWARE UPGRADE at the bottom of the menu list then press Right Arrow to display the upgrade screen. 6. Press Up Arrow for YES to proceed with the update -- the Spider Jam or JM4 Looper will update itself from the SD Card. When the update is complete, the Spider Jam will power cycle itself. Note: Do not turn off power in the middle of the update! 7. Verify the update was successful by previewing a few Songs and Drum tracks (scroll thru the list; each track will play for a few seconds when you select it). 8. After verifying the update was successful, press the SAVE button again to display the menu list. 9. Turn the wheel and navigate to FORMAT CARD then press Right Arrow to display the format screen. 10. Press Up Arrow for YES and the Spider Jam/JM4 Looper will format the SD Card, preparing it for normal operation. 11. When formatting is complete, you're all set. If you ever want to reinstall your firmware, go back to your computer and copy the 'fw.bin' file to your SD Card, then repeat the above steps from Step 2. 12. If you want to load your backed up .WAV files into your Spider Jam again, simply copy them from your computer into the "LINE6" folder on your SD card using your SD card reader, then load them into your Spider Jam using the IMPORT WAV FILE FROM CARD command (consult the Spider Jam Advanced Guide for info on the option of viewing and loading your files via the SD Recordings Browser). If there is no LINE6 folder on the SD Card root directory, please create one. Format Alert: If your SD Card is rejected by the Spider Jam as not being FAT16, you should format your card and start over. See Format Instructions below. (Also attached) Mac OSX: Format SD Card to FAT16 1. Insert card into Mac via SD card reader 2. Name it UNTITLED (Double click on the icon on your desktop to open the drive>Right Click or CTRL Click on the Drive title and select the Rename option) 3.
