  1. Help with Helix and studio monitor setup I recently got my HS5 studio monitors and have connected them to my helix floor with the 1/4” to 1/4” cables. In the global preferences on helix I’ve set the 1/4” setting to Line and the level knob on the back of the monitors in the centre position which is +4dB. My main usage is to use Helix as an audio interface to record. I’ve been watching YouTube videos and reading the line 6 forums but I’m having a bit of trouble understanding some things. - The big volume knob on the Helix and Unity gain I see a lot of people saying that they turn this knob up fully and leave it there? Do I need to do this for my setup? Will it affect my tones in any way if I don’t do this? - Calibrating studio monitors for loudness with pink noise and SPL app for mixing purposes When I was looking into this one what I seen people doing was using the level control on the back of their monitors to achieve the desired SPL but this has me confused. My understanding from Helix manual was that going from 1/4” to 1/4” on the studio monitors would need a setting of Line level in global settings. Also the setting for Line level on my monitors is the +4dB one, so if I use the level knobs on the monitors to calibrate won’t that mess things up? Why can’t I calibrate the SPL with the Helix volume knob instead? I apologise if this is a bit of a word salad, but I am new to this stuff and just trying my best to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  2. So I have a problem setting up this dual setup with a exp pedal AND a momentary footswitch. Do anyone have any experience with this? I've tried with a Rockboard Y split cable, and a mission engineering exp pedal built for line6 pedals. Maybe i need to get another exp pedal, or cable?... Let me know!
  3. What is the Metallurgy Collection? The MetallurgyTM Collection of amplifier and effects plugins was created specifically for guitarists who wish to quickly and easily access contemporary versions of classic and modern metal tones—as well as craft original tones of their own. The Collection bundles the Modern, Thrash, and Doom plugins, which are also available individually. The Metallurgy Collection plugins feature amplifier and effects models drawn from the award-winning HX® family of products. How many amp models per plugin? Each Metallurgy plugin features four amplifier models carefully chosen to deliver a full range of genre-specific tones. What kind of effects are included? Pre-amplifier Effects Each Metallurgy plugin features 3 (or more) mono. style-specific effects, as well as a polyphonic capo, that can be used before the amp in the signal chain. Post-amplifier Effects Each Metallurgy plugin features two stereo, style-specific effects that may be used after the amp in the signal chain. What about Cabinets, Microphones, and IRs? Each Metallurgy plugin features a choice of eight speaker cabinets and eight microphones, all based on IRs. Two mics may be selected and combined with a stereo room mic array, and up to two third-party Impulse Responses (IRs) may be substituted for the factory mics. Once you’ve logged in and authorized your Metallurgy software, IRs purchased from the Line 6 Marketplace on the same account will be made available in Metallurgy. Can I automate parameters in the Metallurgy Collection? Yes. Nearly every parameter in the Metallurgy Collection can be automated. Does the Metallurgy Collection support MIDI parameter control? Yes, nearly every parameter in the Metallurgy Collection can be controlled via MIDI CC. Is amp switching and amp bypassing via MIDI Learn or automation available? Switching channels via midi/automation is not available because the plugin would have to load the DSP of the alternate channel – which is essentially another model being loaded. Changing amp models in general is not supported via midi and automation. You can bypass an amp model and its DSP by disabling (bypassing) the amp view in the top toolbar. That also is not supported via midi learn or automation. There are other ways to bypass/mute that are midi/automation supported within the cab view’s mixer. Is the UI resizable? Not at launch. We’re working on it. Does the Metallurgy Collection support Retina displays (2x resolution)? Yes. The Metallurgy Collection includes Retina support. Is there Undo/Redo functionality? Yes, Undo/Redo is included at launch, along with A/B Compare. Does the Metallurgy Collection have a built-in tuner? Yes, it does include a chromatic tuner. Will there be a standalone version? Yes, each plugin includes standalone functionality. Are there any artist presets? Not at launch. 4. I just acquired a Helix LT and am learning to use it. I have figured out how to make presets and things like that. But here's my problem... We play 4 or 5 songs each service and those songs vary from week to week... How do you make it easy to create a setlist (say with 4 songs in it) and make them easily accessible during the set? How do you make it easy to go from one song to the next that require different presets? And then, the following week, delete the songs in that setlist and add new songs to it? This is not rocket science but I can't seem to do this without having to jump through hoops to get it done. Makes me wanna sell the things and go back to stomp boxes. Someone please explain how you use and changes setlists each week. Thanks for any guidance you can provide.
  5. So i just got my Line 6 Spider V20 MKii for Christmas, and i have the Spider Controller app on my phone, but i don't know how to hook up my phone to the amp to use the Controller. Can I please get some help on this?
  6. I bought the Pod Go and also purchased the Powercab 112 Plus also. I'm not able to get good tone using the two together and I'm unsure as to what the units settings should be set to in order for both units to preform at their best. I can not find a video or forum topic that provide guidance in the best connection settings when using the Pod Go and the Powercab 112 Plus together. For example: Do I need to turn the cab sim off on the Pod Go and use the Flat setting in the powercab or the cab simulation on the powercab? I can't figure out what the best settings are while using these two units together. Any help would be much appreciated.
  7. I was looking for recommendations or tips about how to get the most out of my Helix LT, keeping in mind I am not a professional musician. I have my Helix LT and I have it plugged in directly into the instrument input of a Boss Katana 100 amp. I want to get the best sound possible out of my Helix so would I be better suited to buy a PA speaker of some kind like the HeadRush or something to that affect or better speakers directly into my PC and bypass the amp all together? Or would anything not really make a significant difference compared to what I am already doing?
  8. Hi! So, I have been seriously considering buying Helix LT from Thomann, since its under 900€ there. How ever, I have never used these amp modeling units before, and my understanding of them is pretty limited. So, my question is: How would I setup the Helix LT to be able to use headphones, and play along with Spotify tracks on my PC? Just to be super clear, i want to hear BOTH Helix and Spotify from my headphones at the same time (duh) I do have a Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2nd gen audio interface which I plug my headphones into when normally using my PC. So would I need to connect the Helix to the Focusrite? If so, should I connect it to the microphone, or instrument slot? Or will it be enough to just connect the Helix to my PC with the USB cable, and then plug headphones into the Helix? I live in an apartment, so being able to use headphones and play along to music that way is a "must have" feature for me. I have been using amp sim softwares like Bias Amp before, and with those I have just plugged my guitar into my pedalboard, and the pedalboard into my Focusrite interface and that's it. Thank you so much for your help! I am really looking forward to getting the Helix if what I described is possible with it.
  9. Hey folks - I've got my floor unit set up to have 4 snapshots across the bottom, 4 stomps across the top for each preset. The goal is for each preset to represent a specific amp/guitar tone with the snapshots set for common or specific song parts (verse, chorus, lead, etc). I'm hoping to use the 4 stomps for in-the-moment adjustments, adding or bypassing an effect, etc. It's close, BUT. I find that when I select a stomp, the selection applies only while I stay in the same snapshot. When I switch to the next section of the tune, the effect won't be there unless I kick it again. I was hoping/assuming the stomps would stay active across snapshots. Like saying "If I stomp this, just leave it on in all my snapshots until I un-stomp it." But I can't find a setting to make it so. Am I asking too much? Doing it wrong? I find this is the most confusing part of working with Helix. Here's what a sample preset looks like for me right now: Preset: 12A Telecaster Twin FS2-5 = stomps (e.g. slapback, chorus, etc) FS7-10 = snapshots (e.g. clean, overdrive, lead built with a combination of amp, IR, distortion, compression, EQ and reverb) Thanks for any insights you've got!
  10. Can't seem to find 2 factory spec measurements for my JTV69 or my Variax Standard tremolo rear edge height (as in pic - for a Fender it's 3.2mm) string height at 12th fret Yes, I know, I can just make it to whatever I'm comfortable with that doesn't affect playability or intonation. I'd like to be able to set it to factory standard though. Anybody know where I can find this information for the JTV69 and the Standard?
  11. Today I walk through my guitar recording setup and my workflow. I've had a lot of questions so I figured we would go back to basics and see how it is we set stuff up. Here is the workflow: Line 6 Helix rack - UA Apollo Twin Duo - iMac - Presonus Studio One 4.0
  12. HELP PLEASE! Does anyone know if it is possibile to make helix remembering the last snapshot I used within a preset when I come back from another preset??? THANKS
  13. I have the helix on a not so large room, with 2 tube amp on clean , in stereo, I am going from the helix to the amp from the left and right instrument cable output on the helix , NOT the 4 cables Method, and I have this electrical HUMM, that is quite common when you hook two tube amps, with a digital moduler in between, is not so loud , but for prolonged playing time, it builds up on the ear becoming very annoying . so far I tried the ground lift on the back and doesn't help, maybe anyone know a trick or a sort of buffer or a magic pedal that isolates the amps from the electrical current that is creating the noise?
  14. Sorry to bother y'all, I know this is a basic question... I bought my Helix July 14th and want to start downloading patches from the site but, after watching videos and looking at other forums, I still cannot figure out how to properly set things up. I have downloaded the Line 6 Updater as well as the Helix sidebar thing for dragging and dropping patches. However, after hooking the helix up to the computer and trying to drag and drop a few patches, errors kept coming up and failed to download. Clearly I technology is not my strong suit... do I just need to update something? Please help! Thank you
  15. Hello, i’m using my Helix with 4cm in combination with a Mesa Lonestar Special. I want to use a monitor, just for me. I have connected the monitor to mono left xlr and in the settings i have set the volume button to xlr. This works kinda. I dont like the sound of my monitor this way. How do set it so that I can use a cab in between the helix and my monitor and not affect my amp. And stil use a separate volume for the monitor. Regards, Jan
  16. Hey Guys! I've got a M5 pedal, that was dying slowly, as I thought. It was stuck in one preset, was rebooting constantly and no sound produced. I've tried to update the firmware, but it failed. Then I've managed to reset it to factory settings and it worked (actually I did it twice). Pedal does produce sound now, but it behaves not quite like it was before. It doesn't activate a preset until I tap both buttons. So I can scroll through the list of presets, but it would sound like the last preset I've edited. Then I tap both buttons and the selected preset activates. Before the reset it activated selected preset instantly. I've bought my pedal from a person, so I don't know how it should work with factory defaults. Maybe I could set it up to activate presets while scrolling through them? P.S. Also the expression pedal doesn't work with it anymore. Little dots appear, but no changes are made by the exp-pedal. But I'm not sure if it's working by itself.
  17. So I am having trouble with my signal path. I am running 2 XLR's out of the balanced outputs of my Pod HD Pro X into Analog inputs 1 and 2 of my Profire 2626 audio interface, which is connected via firewire to my mac mini. My studio monitors are also connected to my audio interface. My question is, do I need to connect the pod via usb to my mac in order for my signal to get from the pod to coming out of my monitors? if not, how do I get the signal path right? Right now I can't get my pod to cooperate. I only hear anything when I plug in headphones to the Pod would seriously appreciate some advice, I am really stuck on this. I don't have 20 usb ports on my computer to connect every single device! Thanks, John
  18. I bought today line 6 UX2 and wanted to connect it to my mac. After i open monkey it shows me just one device option (PODxt) to choose and on license manager i can't see my UX2. Did you experience a similar problem? What should i do?
  19. Hi guys and gals! I have a Pod hd500x and I'm looking to lighten up my live gear. Before I was using an engl powerball and engl 4x12 and had the pod as effects, but the music that we play requires me to switch a bunch and with channel selecting on the amp and effect switching on the pod it got really crazy sometimes. So now I'm using the pod as pretty much my main tone (amp sim, cab sim, effects, etc.). I've since gotten rid of the engl as it was redundant to have the head, and the cab is a pain to lug around. So my question is does anyone have some recommendations for cabinets? If possible I wanna have a 2x12 with some power. Thanks!
  20. Hi, so i've googled and couldn't really find a response to what im looking for. My situation is this,I have a line6 UX2 with everything up to date on drivers and all. Now, i want to use the ''Inst. & Mic 1'' as my input source, i did it once before but i recently reinstalled my pc, anyway. im currently using a Supreme CU-1 Studio Condenser Mic. I'm using Guitar rig 5 for Guitar&Bass sounds, but i can't get the mic to work, any idéas will be appriciated. :) Let me know if anything else is needed to set up this thing.
  21. Hey everyone, Firstly, thanks for spending some of your time to give me a bit of help. I've recently moved country, and a friend gave me some speakers as a house warming gift. Problem is, they only have a single auxiliary input, and my UX1 has stereo outputs (quarter inch). WIth my previous speakers back in the U.K., it was simple. I had a cable which connected from the stereo 1/4 inch outputs, to stereo RCA, which I just plugged into the speaker set directly. No problems - stereo to stereo. Now I have bought an adapter to mix the stereo 1/4 inch down into a single auxiliary cable. The problem is, I think I am missing audio this way. Namely, when I test the configuration in windows sound (i.e. playback devices > line 6 UX1) and click to test the speakers, it plays the test sound for the left speaker, but not for the right speaker. However, if I take my aux cable, plug it directly into my computers port, and test, it will play the test sound through both speakers. I don't get why mixing down the stereo to an auxiliary with the UX1 causes only one speaker to work, because surely my computer is mixing the stereo into a single auxilary cable, yet it is still coming out of both speakers. Hope this makes sense. Is there any work around? Or does a UX1 just always require you to keep a stereo to stereo configuration? And buy speaker hardware which has a stereo input option? Cheers everyone. :D Joe.
  22. Hi! Yesterday we wanted to do a quick demo recording of our band in our rehearsal room before hitting a studio in october. But, I couldn't figure out how to get 8 simultaneous inputs working. Here's what I managed to do: By setting the input of the first signal path to 'return 1/2' (and the output to USB 1/2), the input of the second signal path to 'return 3/4' (and the output to USB 3/4), and using the 'guitar in', We got 5 simultaneous inputs working (1, 2, 3, 4, and 7 which the 'guitar in' is routed to). But when I plugged a dynamic mic directly to the 'mic in' I didn't get anything on channel 8 - this should work, right? Maybe it was a faulty cable? Is there a physical input I can route to outputs USB 5/6?
  23. Hi, I have a DT50, JTV89 and the HD500X. Is there an expert dream user in the West London area (Chiswick, Ealing, Isleworth) who is willing and able to set my rig up correctly and give me some tutoring? Willing to pay for your time. Thanks, H
  24. Hello to you all of the Line 6 forums. I recently purchased a Variax Guitar Standard and, in amazement, I found neither in the package, either on the site of Line 6 the factory specs to be able to adjust the setup of the guitar better. Tech support tells me that it can not be published for various reasons, and if there is need for special adjustments, send them the guitar; good support, no doubt, but I'm used to from 30 years to have it set me my bass and my guitars and I wanted to continue on this way. I'd like to share your settings with regard to the relief of the neck, the action of the strings at the bridge, the gauge of strings that lmounted the thickness and, in general, what are the measurements that have given you more satisfaction with the pick-up piezo under the bridge in order to make the most possible simulations. This kind of guitar, for me, is something new that I never got to approach first: any help, advice eyes all of you will be really pleasant ;-)))
  25. Hi everyone! So I'm trying to figure out the best way to setup my HD500x. For live shows, I use an electric through a fender hot rod deville, an acoustic, and a mandolin. I'd like all of my effects to go through the HD500x for all instruments. But, obviously, I don't want the acoustic or mandolin running through my amp. Ideally, I'd like to set it up to where each instrument would be able to have a separate channel for mixing. But since this is impossible (to my knowledge at least), what is the best way to set this up? For only the electric to go through the amp and the mandolin and acoustic basically be run direct. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot!
