  1. Hello! I'm using the Powercab 1X12 with a UA Lion pedal. Is it possible to use a regular guitar cabinet along with the Powercab?
  2. I run my LT through two behringer 10” powered speakers. They are loud, and some of my metal patches sound exactly like the guitar tones I am copying. So big tick for Helix and FRFRs. But, I don’t have that amp sound and feel. I just have a loud stereo. Basically the Behringers sound reallly accurate, but a bit flat. It’s almost like I need a subwoofer to add that low end that you can hear when Ola does his “chug” thing on YouTube. I don’t want to buy a sub, I feel like that’s the wrong solution. What I am thinking is that I swap out the Behringers for 2 x 50w 12” Katanas and use the Power Amp In function and crank them. My question is, will this new set up add that low end “thump” that you hear through real guitar amps? Or is this what IRs add? (And should I just buy some IRs first. If so, which?). TIA
  3. I'm looking for advice for this project: I am planning to perform "mini-concerts". I call them "mini" because it will be in a friend's place, which is basically an a big-enough apartment room for some friends (around 10 top max) as audience and I will play in front of them. So it's not the same situation as a real concert. I will be playing mainly with guitars + Helix (floor) as a command center and/or (depending on the session and the piece) with a laptop+audio interface (maybe a mixer later), a few additional pedals and maybe midi controllers & keyboard(s). It is possible that this project will lead to some bigger performance but I'm not motivated at all to try other kinds of performances for now (except maybe through twitch). Right now I use studio monitors in my home office, so I only need these to work on music or for training at guitar. However I don't intend to move them for this kind of event, it doesn't feel appropriate and I dont want to risk breaking them while moving them. I'm looking for a good solution for FR/FR speakers when doing these mini-concerts. My friend that will host the event is open to let me get there sometimes to check acoustic etc. but I'm not sure what should work, I lack experience in that domain and I can't get there with everything I have or consider (it's not close, I don't have a car or licence so I'll go with taxi/uber). Here is the kind of music I will be playing: backing track + me playing over with the guitar (for electric-guitar focused stuffs); acoustic (with or without backing tracks), with the helix (for effects mainly) some synth based background loops + me playing over with the guitar (maybe driven through midi etc.) ambient pieces; solo guitar focused pieces; Because of this I suspect I better go with stereo, in particular for the ambient pieces and for having the backing tracks playing in different instruments in different "places" around, to not mush the sound when I play over. I also think I don't need concert-level volume, though I still need louder than what I play in my office as I'm alone in the (small) room. Here is what I have that could work and what I am considering: I have a BlackStar ID-CORE BEAM (https://blackstaramps.com/id-core-beam/) which basically works well for both acoustic and electric guitars and bass. I used it sometime to get to a friend's place and plugged the Helix headphone output into the aux input of this amp, the speaker felt ok but I couldn't compare to see if it was tainting the sound too much or not (the point of the session was not really the sound so we didnt focus on that). It's also not super practical once I try to work with more than one instruments. I have an old Laney electric keyboard amp that looks weird and there is duct tape around it. I salvaged it at a previous job where it was abandoned in a corner (the job had nothing to do with music). Some people say keyboard amps can be used instead of FR/FR speakers, I don't know about that. One major issue with it is that it seems to taint the tone a lot. I consider getting a PowerCab 212 plus, to have the stereo in one transportable thing. It's not clear to me if the fact that the speakers are close is a bad thing or not for stereo. Like, is that important for ambient pieces? Would that cab work well with a laptop playing other stuffs too + me playing in the helix? I consider getting 2 x "EV ZLX 12P" https://www.thomann.de/fr/ev_zlx_12p.htm Other than the price of doing so (similar to getting the PowerCab 212), the main issue is that getting these would only be useful for these mini-concerts. I will probably not be able to use them in any other ways I planned so far. The main advantages is getting instruments-agnostic FR/FR and being able to put them far from each other (or just not-close). Any suggestions at what would be a good solution for this kind of project? milestoneapply.com
  4. Can anyone recommend some small speakers for use with the HX Stomp in a living room? I have a PowerCab I use with a full Helix out of the way but this is too much for the living room. I am looking for some some suitable speakers that could be used with a line in or bluetooth for music as well as connection to the HX Stomp. Thanks.
  5. I'm looking at buying a StageScape and see that it would require powered PA speakers. I have a nice set of unpowered PA speakers and wondered if I could put use an amplifier inline between the mixer and the speakers? If so, any amplifier suggestions? Nothing too extravagant. Thanks!
  6. Hey Guys, How do you power your Line 6 Helix modeler for Live use with a cabinet ? What is the best solution you've came across while doing your research ? Please share your experience and your perfect setup solution to make the Helix sound has legit as possible. (Amp feel and response, amp in the room feel etc.) So far I've tried many possibilities : - Tube amp Fx loop (power amp in) - Powered monitor such as EV ELX 112P - Line 6 Powercab + - Boss Waza tube expander to power a passive guitar cab with classic celestion speakers. Cheers,
  7. Hello all. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions you all gave me last year. I’ve been slowly modifying, rearranging, and upgrading my equipment since we last posted. I now have a zoom L-12 Livetrack mixer/recorder and I love it. I am now ready to buy some speakers and am still debating which ones to get. Your input will be appreciated. To refresh you on my situation, I am slowly building a home studio. Its purpose is primarily just for fun jamming with my friends. The studio is in my converted living room and is roughly 20 feet square. Carpeted. The helix, computer, and other instruments are plugged into the mixer. I now need a final output. Most of you have suggested a pair of studio monitors, others have suggested PA speakers. The jam sessions are pretty casual, so the players are not going to wear headphones unless we ever decide to make a recording for public consumption, which is unlikely. In my dreams we might want to do a talent show at church but realistically that is probably also unlikely. So, help me decide: Yamaha HS8 studio monitors Yamaha DBR 12 PA speakers EV ZLX 12 PA speakers or something else? Thanks
  8. I can only get a great sound from my Helix LT when using studio headphones. It is not the patches as I have downloaded patches and used the factory presets, but no matter what sound output I select the sound is never as good as my headphones. To date I have tried: Guitar amps:Marshall DSL20 and Blackstar HT5, using various cabinets and going through both the power amp as well as bypassing it. This gave a booming, flat sound. Monitors: KRK RP3: This came closest as it was warm but very contained. An Alto powered speaker: This was very poor. It sounded exactly like it is, a PA speaker. Creative Labs active speakers for use with a computer: These gave a great sound but the sound was breaking up. I am now considering whether to try a Headrush FRFR, Yamaha HS8 monitors or just more powerful active speakers even though they do not provide a flat response. Is anybody else having these problems and found a solution?
  9. I only use my Helix at home but I am disappointed at the sound going through my power am + cab, and my KRK RP5s are a little disappointing too, especially on the power level. Anybody any recommendations? I want a good stereo sound.
  10. I've been playing my new Helix through headphones and my Marshall DSL 100 with 1960 cab. I just can't get this thing to sound good through the Marshall. Based on this forum, it sounds like sand alone speakers is what I need as opposed to using an amp cab. This is for home use only. But my home set up is a fairly large room and I like playing loud when no one's home. I assume I need to skip powered monitors and go for bigger speakers. I can afford a single Line 6 L2T or dual PA speakers (Say a pair of Alto 212's). What do you guys recommend between a single L2T versus 2 PA speakers? Thank you very much! Bryan
  11. I know by default when you plug in an external cabinet the speakers in the head switch off. Is there any supported method of allowing the built-in speakers to continue working even when connected to a cabinet? I'm sure I'm not the first idiot to think of this, but I'd like to use the head as a close monitor, with a cabinet pointed at FOH.
  12. Hello, I have been using Helix for 7-8 months and have listened to myself primarily through headphones. I have also been recording stuff using Helix. Now I want to start using it in studios and gigs and I am unsure whether to plug in Helix directly into speakers or to go into the guitar amp input? I also don't know how does this affect the presets I've been using. My presets all use a combo amp + cab block, which I guess I should change if I actually use a real amp? Thanks in advance :)

    Helix

Just looking for recommendations on what is a good speaker to plug directly into with the helix for example signal chain guitar into Helix direct into powered speaker. Whether it be for a small gig or just practicing at home. Thanks
  14. Hey everyone, Firstly, thanks for spending some of your time to give me a bit of help. I've recently moved country, and a friend gave me some speakers as a house warming gift. Problem is, they only have a single auxiliary input, and my UX1 has stereo outputs (quarter inch). WIth my previous speakers back in the U.K., it was simple. I had a cable which connected from the stereo 1/4 inch outputs, to stereo RCA, which I just plugged into the speaker set directly. No problems - stereo to stereo. Now I have bought an adapter to mix the stereo 1/4 inch down into a single auxiliary cable. The problem is, I think I am missing audio this way. Namely, when I test the configuration in windows sound (i.e. playback devices > line 6 UX1) and click to test the speakers, it plays the test sound for the left speaker, but not for the right speaker. However, if I take my aux cable, plug it directly into my computers port, and test, it will play the test sound through both speakers. I don't get why mixing down the stereo to an auxiliary with the UX1 causes only one speaker to work, because surely my computer is mixing the stereo into a single auxilary cable, yet it is still coming out of both speakers. Hope this makes sense. Is there any work around? Or does a UX1 just always require you to keep a stereo to stereo configuration? And buy speaker hardware which has a stereo input option? Cheers everyone. :D Joe.
  15. Hello guys, Please advise: I've ordered Amplifi TT and it should be arriving soon. Now I'm wondering what else I might need: The first question is: will it work as audio interface to output audio to speakers when connected to MacBook via usb? And the second question is: I'm about to buy M-Audio BX8 D2 speakers that as far as I understand have balanced xlr and abalancned/unbalanced 1/4" inputs. So what are my best options to connect these speakers to Amplifi tt? Amplifi manual does not state if 1/4 inch main outs are balanced. I would presume they are, but just to be sure what cables to buy. Thank you for your help.
  16. I currently have no experience with setting up fx processors for live/rehearsal use through a guitar cabinet, but I am thinking about obtaining a Helix (maybe Axe Fx if I'm patient enough) to add a digital rack setup on top of my current tube amp/cab/pedals setup. Just to have the best of both worlds. I want to stick to a solid state power amp, but do I go Rocktron Velocity 300 or Matrix GT800FX/GT1000FX? I obviously want to maximize my sound in terms of quality, but also in terms of volume without blowing my speakers or being too quiet. I'm not sure how wattage in a sold state amp affects this, and I'd like to go Matrix, but only if they don't destroy these cabs with one small or bad turn of a knob because of their high output capabilities -- 400w/channel or 800w bridged for example -- into a 280w Mesa 4x12 (live/rehearsal) or 120w Orange 2x12 (home). But I can't afford to have the 300w Rocktron be too quiet for a live or rehearsal situation even if it does suffice for at-home use. Bottom line: Which power amp should I get and how would I avoid damage? I see people using the Matrix's all the time with cab setups but how do they not blow their cabs? Just keep the Matrix turned down low all the time? Is it an impedance thing? Side note: The Orange also only has a 16 ohm option so without rewiring how would that work, if it can at all since I believe these amps do 8 ohms? I know there's other options for speaker setups but I'm asking specifically about guitar cabinets... for now. I play heavy music. Much appreciated.
  17. I just installed Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan on my MacBook Air. I waited a while to install this specifically because the Line 6 drivers are always bad early on. Sure enough, I've updated my drivers and now when I output from my Toneport UX2 using the analog outs into my monitors or through my headphones there's a constant crackling noise coming out. Please help me fix this.
  18. Hello everyone, First time poster. I have an Orange dark terror amp head that I use with a rockcrusher recording load box/attenuator/cabinet emulator to connect to the Helix. I've just moved from a flat with three floors of neighbours above me to a house with a spacious attic room that has become my home studio. I was operating a silent recording setup in the flat but I now want to start using some form of speaker. I'm leaning towards a FRFR speaker (specifically this http://www.andertons.co.uk/speaker-cabinets/pid35447/cid690/laney-iron-heart-irtx-powered-guitar-expansion-cab.asp ) because I figure I might be able to use it with my roland TD30k drumkit as well (although that isn't a priority.) I have enough to buy one speaker but if needed I may invest in two at some point in the future. I mainly want to know whether it's possible to generate feedback from the helix amp and cab models and/or routing the orange head and rockcrusher through the Helix and using a FRFR speaker. I ask because I saw this video of a Helix and cabinet demo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IuX5L8DjtM. The guy definitely seems to be getting some feedback together and having been recording silently for the last 3 years I want to start squealing and howling again. I have two questions as I've never used a FRFR speaker before. I connect the rockcrusher to the helix and use the orange head as an insert block separate from any Helix amp and cab models and FX, sometimes in a mono serial routing and sometimes in a stereo parallel routing as two different amp and cab emulations panned left and right, and sent from the XLR outs direct to my mixer. As such having the ability to connect a stereo signal to the FRFR speaker is important to me but not necessarily outputting a stereo image to my ears (if that makes sense) ie a left and right FRFR speaker. So could I send a stereo signal from the Helix 1/4 inch outs to the stereo FX loop on the FRFR? I don't forsee using the FRFR in any part of the recording as yet (mainly due to not quite understanding how or why I would in preferance to the way I record at the moment eg using the two Helix XLR outs to connect to two channels on my mixer) and just using the speaker for monitoring the helix. Does that mean I have to complete the FX loop ie send a stereo signal back to the helix from the FRFR? I mean as I understand it feedback is the phenomenon of soundwaves from the speaker vibrating the guitar strings and being picked up by the guitar pickups, generating noise through the amp and manifesting as soundwaves from the speaker and then repeating that sequence over and over. 2nd question: is it physically possible to generate feedback using a FRFR speaker and will it damage any of the components in my theoritical rig of guitar > Helix > Orange amp > Rockcrusher > Helix > FRFR speaker and then using the Helix XLR outs to send to my mixer. Apologies if any of these questions seem simple or strange.
  19. Hi everyone i have a music room that is 10x12 and want to buy some speakers to run my helix in stereo. I am thinking of QSC K8's but want ask advice from all of you. i am not going to play out but am looking for the best sound i can get in my room. thanks
  20. Hi everyone - Quick question....Can I connect a passive bass (extension) 2x10 8ohm cab to my Studio110 Direct Out connection without harm? Appreciate there's no further power to be obtained...interested whether there's an improvement in overall sound i.e. from 1 x 10 to 3 x10. Cheers...MIKE B
  21. How do I get my sound to come out of my computer speakers? I have my POD HD500 plugged in to my computer through USB and through one of the outputs (one end is an instrument cable for the pod, and the other end is a headphone/aux cable for the computer). I've tried messing with the sound settings on my computer, but I don't hear anything when I play. I've seen this done before, so I know it's possible. I don't even think I need a USB for it, but I've tried it without one as well. Please help.
  22. I'm not able to get any sound when I'm playing from my computer speakers anymore. I have a UX2 hooked up directly to the computer via USB and the electric guitar plugged in to the normal instrument input. The meters are moving on the UX2 when I'm playing and the Digital Audio Interface under the recording tab on my sound settings for the UX2 shows sound being registered but nothing is being registered under the playback tab for the speakers. I haven't played in a while and had to update all the drivers cause POD Farm 2 says it wasn't authorized but the license manager said it was so after updating drivers and etc. the problem was fixed. After updating everything the problem with the sound came up, yet I've set up everything the way it was before. I've looked up a few solutions online like checking under the mixer tab on pod farm if it is set to instrument, making sure the knobs are turned up, switching USB ports, etc. I'm kinda all out of ideas on what could be the problem.
  23. Still a little confused about something. Is the proper way to use this directly to speakers or directly to an amp? Which is going to sound better? Won't my amp affect the sound, considering this thing models other amps? Thanks!
  24. I just bought a Studio GX and have it set up like most mention by unplugging my computers speakers and plugging them into the GX and it works great BUT I have a question. IF I don't want to use the GX as an external sound card at "all times" and instead only want to use the GX when using Pod farm and recording software can I leave the computer's speakers plugged in to the computer's sound card and plug in a set of "powered Personal monitor" speakers that I have on hand into the Studio GX and leave it plugged in all the time? IDs there ANY problem with doing this IF it will even work? I just don't want to use the GX as the sound card for everything ALL the time NOR do I want to be plugging AND unplugging stuff all the time.............
  25. Hi guys, just got a HD500 and was wondering how to set it up so I can listen through my PC while I'm recording. I'm going to be using Reaper and have a vista PC. Is It possible and if it is could you guys help me with settings etc. Many thanks.
