  1. GearBox 3.72 is the most current version of our amp/effects modelling software editor for compatible USB hardware devices. Download the bundled installation file from our Downloads page at: http://line6.com/software/ From the "Software" drop-down list, select GearBox. Click on the red "GO" button to the right. On the following page, the most current version of our bundled installer should be at the top of the list. Version 3.72 is the most current as of this document. Click "Get Download", then accept the licensing agreement. Choose: "Save" to begin transferring the bundled installation file to your local hard drive. Once this file has been completely saved, find it on your hard drive. Make sure your USB hardware device is NOT connected yet. Double click the GearBox installer file to begin installation of bundled components (USB Device Drivers, Line 6 Monkey*, GearBox Editor and optional Plug-In files). Please read through the manual by selecting the "F1" key when gearbox is open. You can also save the PDF file on your computer for later viewing ot dowmload it at the following link: Gearbox 3.72 manual Line 6 Monkey is a USB device firmware/flash memory utility application only. It will enable you to update the firmware and flash memory (if available on your device). For certain devices (PODxt/X3), it can also archive patch bundles and restore saved patch bundles. GearBox is the current Amp/Effect modelling software editor application for the following USB Audio Interface devices: GuitarPort, TonePort, POD Studio, PODxt and POD X3 series devices. With it, you can do the following two primary functions: Open up saved (and downloaded) .l6t patches from your hard drive for editing. Afterwards, you can re-save the modified patch file back to your hard drive or sync/transfer the patch to your USB hardware device connected. ***NOTE: POD Farm 2 tone files will NOT load into the Gearbox software. The top-half of GearBox is where you can select Stomp, Amp Model, EQ, Modulation, Delay, Reverb parameters and adjust them via mouse-click/drags to affect the input signal on your connected USB hardware device in real-time.
  2. Q: What quality are the UX8's A/D converters? A: The UX-8 uses the same converter chip that the Apogee Ensemble ($1949), Echo Audiofire 12 ($699), Focusrite Saffire Pro ($699) and probably more use. A/D Conversion: 16-bit & 24-bit 44.1, 48, 88.2 & 96 kHz This info comes from our UX8 specs page at: http://line6.com/toneportux8/specifications.html
  3. Phantom power is DC (or direct current) used to power certain microphones, the UX2 and KB37 offer 48-Volt signal to a condenser microphone by connecting it to the XLR input on the unit. The UX1 does not have phantom power, if you have a microphone that requires such power you will need to get either a standalone microphone preamplifier or one that is built into an audio mixer's input channel. Also available are stand alone phantom power boxes. (A good example of this device is the Rolls PB23 Phantom Power Supply). Phantom power is not harmful to mics that don't need it. If a mic does not need phantom power it will ignore the 48-Volts being sent the the microphone. Even with the Phantom Power on, your UX2 or KB37 can have both a mic that requires Phantom Power and a mic that does not require Phantom Power.
  4. English: The most common reason you would get no sound from your microphone is that you do not have the "Source Select" drop down menu set to Mic 1. This is located in the upper left hand corner of Gearbox (middle of the POD Farm application window, to the right of the "MUTE" button). If you own a TonePort UX1 and have selected Mic 1 and you still get no sound, your microphone may require Phantom Power. UX1's do not provide Phantom Power to the XLR port. Only UX2's, KB37's and UX8's have this feature.
  5. Please use the directions below in order to record two inputs from a TonePort/POD Studio UX1/UX2 USB device from POD Farm simultaneously: In POD Farm: Create a dual tone input in POD Farm (i.e. Mic 1 & 2, Line 1 & 2, Inst & Mic, etc). In Your DAW (Recording Application- we will use Ableton Live Lite as our example): Go to "Options/Preferences". Click on "Input Config" at the bottom. Make sure that all of the selections are green in "Input Config" and "Output Config". If they are not, click on them so they appear as green and click OK. Create two audio tracks. On each track you will see "Audio From". Make sure that says "Ext. In". In track one select "1/2". For track two choose "3/4". Now the mic will be recorded on one track and your guitar will be recorded on the other. To arm both tracks for recording, please hold control and then click on the "Arm" button. For more detailed info, please watch the online video at Ableton's website here: http://cdn1.ableton.com/movies/recording_audio.mov For GarageBand: First, ensure that you have a DUAL Tone setup in POD Farm. In the [MIXER] Section of POD Farm, ensure that REC SEND: UX2 1-2 is set to “Tone 1 (Instrument)” and REC SEND: UX2 3-4 is set to “Tone 2 (Microphone 1)”. In GarageBand: Input Source for INST 1 (GarageBand Track) must be set to Stereo 1 / 2 (UX2) Input Source for MIC 1 (GarageBand Track) must be set to: Stereo 3 / 4 (UX2). Now you should be able to record both input sources simultaneously in GarageBand.
  6. Once you've installed the latest drivers for your Line 6 USB device on your computer's operating system, connect audio monitors/speakers to the audio outputs of your Line 6 USB device or use the headphone output jack. The built-in soundcard output of your computer will not output processed amp/effect tones from GearBox/POD Farm/DAW software. Also, connecting the audio output from your POD Studio/TonePort/POD interface into the audio input of your default soundcard will result in you hearing latency (short echo/delay). Please connect your computer speakers or headphonesdirectly to the output of the POD Studio/TonePort/POD interface device and not your original computer's soundcard output.
