  1. Hi there, I've been trying to find a second hand UX8 in good condition to replace mine from 2008 in case of troubles as 100s of my tracks use it with all the plugins and stuff. (the 2 front inputs create clicks therefore unusable, and line input 1 is now a third of normal level) I almost got one from a seller in North Korea which hadn't been used yet, after asking many questions and getting the seller to test it, he actually sold it locally. Anyway my question is does anyone in the know know if Line 6 will ever release a multi input soundcard again ?
  2. I am getting a notice that my UX8 Driver needs updating, but when I go to comply there is no update available.
  3. TonePort UX8 Frequently Asked Questions Q: Is TonePort UX8 an audio interface or software? Does it record? A: TonePort UX8 is a USB audio interface. Every TonePort audio interface works with the included GearBox modeling software as an integrated hardware/software system. The TonePort device gets audio signals into your computer and GearBox software makes everything you record sound amazing. TonePort UX8 is a unique integration of professional hardware and amp and effects modeling software. Designed with high quality electrical components and a rugged exterior, TonePort UX8 provides a wide dynamic range and an exceedingly low noise floor. The UX8, like every TonePort device, works together with the included GearBox software as an integrated hardware/software system, making everything you record sound amazing. Additionally, TonePort UX8 features Line 6's exclusive ToneDirect Monitoring, which lets you hear your GearBox-processed signal instantaneously, providing unmatched responsiveness while you record. Q: What is ToneDirect monitoring? A: ToneDirect monitoring allows you to monitor a fully processed signal with extremely low latency, regardless of the buffer size of your recording application. This means that there is an incredibly small delay between when you play a note and when you actually hear the sound from your speakers. This is unusual among audio interfaces because with other more traditional monitoring solutions, you either have to listen to processed audio with significant latency, often such that it is hard to play along with what you are recording or listen to a signal with no processing. It's uninspiring to say the least to hear completely dry electric guitar with no amp, cab, or effect processing. Q: What is GearBox? A: GearBox is the standalone software application that works with your TonePort audio interface, providing everything you need to record professional sounding tracks. GearBox contains models of vintage and modern amps, speaker cabinets, stompbox and studio effects for guitar, bass and vocals and can be applied while recording to any pair of inputs. Q: Can I apply Gearbox effects to all 8 inputs at once? A: Yes, using the Gearbox plug-in that is included with the UX8. Q: Will Gearbox be able to record at 96K? A: The UX8 driver can process audio at 96K, but Gearbox operates at 48K. Gearbox converts the 96k signal from the UX8 driver, converts it to 48k, processes it, then sends the signal to the UX8 driver, which then converts the signal to 96k. Q: Can I use TonePort UX8 without the GearBox software? A: Yes, you can use the TonePort hardware without GearBox software. Q: Can you re-amp with UX8? A: Not the same way you can with a PODxt, but you can via the GearBox Plug-In. The method for re-amping with a PODxt is pointed out in Knowledge Base document 3940. Q: What is GearBox Plug-In? A: GearBox Plug-In is a VST, AU and RTAS plug-in, providing the same models as the standalone application and additional flexibility when mixing and mastering. Q: Is the GearBox Plug-In included with TonePort UX8? A: Yes, it is. Q: Are TonePort UX8 and GearBox Intel Mac compatible? A: Yes, they are. Q: What recording software can I use with TonePort UX8? A: Every TonePort supports the ASIO standard on Windows and Core Audio on the Macintosh and should work well with any recording application that supports one of these protocols. The UX8 is designed to work with most major applications such as ProTools, Logic, Cubase, Nuendo, Sonar and Ableton Live. Q: Can I use TonePort UX8 and GearBox processing as a front end for Pro Tools? A: Yes, if your Pro Tools® hardware interface has a S/PDIF input you can run the stereo S/PDIF output of your TonePort UX8 directly into your Pro Tools hardware, complete with ToneDirectâ„¢ monitoring and GearBox processing. You can also utilize the Pro Tools compatible RTAS-format GearBox Plug-In for mixing and mastering. Q: Is RiffWorks 2 Line 6 Edition compatible with TonePort UX8? A: No, RiffWorks Line 6 and Riffworks 2 Line 6 Edition are not compatible with the UX8. However, the Standard Edition (full version) of Riffworks available for purchase through the Sonoma WireWorks website: http://www.sonomawireworks.com/. Q: Can I expand the model set of TonePort UX8 with Line 6 Model Packs? A: Yes, you can. They are available as optional Model Pack purchases from our online Store. Q: Can I transfer model packs that I purchased on another Line 6 hardware device over to my new UX8? A: Yes. Once you've purchased a model pack license key, that key remains with your user account indefinitely. You cannot, however have two or more different registered hardware devices running the same model pack simultaneously. Only one hardware device can have the model pack installed on it at any given time. Q: Do the gain controls on the front panel control the line input jacks on the back of the unit? A: The gain controls the input level of the XLR inputs, not the instrument cable inputs (as these are assuming line level and most instruments will have their own level control). Q: What do the VU meters do on TonePort UX8? A: The GearBox application allows you to assign the signal that is monitored by the VU meters to various audio sources: including input, record send, output and monitor levels. Q: How accurate are the VU meters on the UX8 in relation to the meters in the software? A: Very accurate, with the smallest of variance between Gearbox and the physical meters. Q: What will happen if my signal clips the unbalanced analog input on the UX8? A: The clipping will be a "natural clipping". The cure is to lower the incoming signal at the source. Q: How many Instruments/Mics can I record at one time? Since you are monitoring directly out of the UX8, am I going to experience any latency when recording all 8 inputs? A: 8 inputs can be recorded at any given time. Outputs 1 & 2 are monitored via ToneDirect, with the remaining outputs monitored from the hardware at near zero latency. Q: Can the phantom power from the UX8 damage my dynamic mic? A: No, it will not. Q: What is the signal to noise ratio on the analog inputs? A: The UX8 has an input signal to noise ratio of .005% THD, with a dynamic range of 111 dB. Q: What do flashing lights on the unit mean? A: The LED status indicators (Main Mute and Main Clip LEDs provide secondary functions in their ability to indicate the connection status of USB and S/PDIF) as follows: No USB connection: The main clip LEDs alternate steadily between left and right, about once every second. The USB cable may be unplugged or the UX8 driver may not be installed on your computer. No S/PDIF clock sync: The Mute LED blinks 3 times rapidly about once every second when the clock mode set to S/PDIF, and no external clock is present. Q: What are the dimensions and weight of the UX8? A: The UX8 is a standard two-unit rack space module, with dimensions of 17"w x 7"d (8" with knobs) x 3.5"h. The shipping weight is 11.6 lbs. Known Issues: An incompatibility for systems running on Intel ICH10 USB Chipsets; UX8 will hang the user's computer system. The solution for this is to use a PCI USB 2.0 interface card to connect UX8. Record buss mis-routing of UX8 in Gearbox when recording into DAW Gearbox is remembering POD Farm 1 and 2 Record send settings if PF (1 or 2) was used before Gearbox program. Workaround is to reset the Record Send settings that were made in POD Farm 1 or 2, or to reboot the computer.
  4. I want to use my UX8 for live streaming, and the only audio signal that broadcasts is the Dry signal. On my UX2 it never had this problem, any possible fixes?
  5. I need to record live a full rock band. 2 guitars will be direct line (chanel 1 and 2), bass and vocal will be line input chanel 3 and 4. I would set up to run stand alone POD Farm to monitor both guitar. Is that possible? Monitoring thru DAW using POD FARM plug in brings a latency that is long enough to dificult the recording process. How could I monitor in good shape bass and voice? The idea is recording the drums with four mics while the musicians record monitoring guitars, bass and voice with headphones (i have a four split device to do that). So the main problem is have good monitoring sounds on guitar and bass to record using POD farm at same time. Can you help me to set up this session in my homestudio?
  6. I'm trying to understand the difference between the ASIO Settings section and the ToneDirect & USB Audio Streaming section a bit better. I've found that the ASIO settings don't seem to impact my latency for direct monitoring with PodFarm or say using Reaper to listen to Superior Drummer being played by an electronic drum kit through MIDI. So it seems the ToneDirect & USB Audio Streaming is solely responsible for that. What is the ASIO settings for then? Just playback? Does anyone have information about what the buffer sizes (or corresponding latency numbers) for each of the ToneDirect & USB Audio Streaming categories such as "Extra Small" or "Medium" are? My TonePorts inputs have recently gone bad. I'm contemplating having a repair shop work on it, but I'm torn between paying for repairs on and older device or moving to a Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 or similar due to their proclaimed low latency. Any thoughts would be helpful.
  7. I upgraded my mac to OS Sierra but now my Toneport UX8 doesn't work anymore. I have already updated drivers but still crash my mac. When a new drivers release will be available for download? Thanks and regards, Andrea
  8. I'm about to sell my UX8 because I just don't do any recording anymore. My question is in regards to the software that came with the device. I still have the software disks that originally shipped with the device, but I'm not sure whether or not the software licenses can be transferred to the new owner. Will he be able to just install the PodFarm and GearMonkey (or whatever they're called) software from the disks and authenticate it since he'll have the physical unit plugged in, or would he have to purchase licenses to use the software?
  9. Got good results recording 6 channels same time with my TonePort UX8. It was four mic (Glyb Johns method) to drum kit (2x MXL V67G + SM57 on snare + ? on kick drum), guitar and bass in line using POD Farm. No stops, no extra noise. Computer Toshiba satellite_A505-S6033 (2009), 8G RAM, Intel® Core™ i7-720QM Processor 1.6 GHz (2.8 GHz with Turbo Boost Technology), 6MB L3 Cache Sonar Platinum Had to reduce audio file quality to allow upload. 10. Hi! I updated my MacBook Pro 2015 to macOS sierra (10.12.3) and now I get choppy audio output with my Toneport UX8. There are a lot of short gaps and listening to music or watching video is really a pain. I tried it with different audio programs. Even the system sounds are choppy. It worked well with El Capitan. So it must be a problem with the new OS version or with the drivers. I already downloaded the latest driver version 7.6.7 but it didn't help. There are no other programs running which could interfere with the audio output. CPU usage is very low. Is anybody else experiencing the same problem with UX8 or another Toneport or Line6 device? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks a lot! Michel
  11. Not sure who or where to ask so I figured why not post here? I've had a UX8 for a few years. No real issues until now. I'm running Windows 10, Brand spanking new dedicated recording PC. Mixcraft 7 as my DAW. Software all up to date. No other software running. CPU clocked at 0-1% within DAW. So from my opinion zero software issues. The UX8 had dirty pots so 2 months ago I gave it a good cleaning. Alcohol, Q-tips, and compressed air. I took a good look around the board while I was in there. Everything looked good. No swollen or burnt components. After cleaning, the pots all sounded good. No more crackling. First Problem: Instrument channels 1-2 on the front are acting like there gated. There are 2 Hi-Z inputs on the front face of the UX8 for instruments. Either I never noticed before(because I don't DI guitar ever) or it just started. You strum the guitar with a good effort and you can see the channel reaching to 0db but then depending on your attack and sustain the volume will drop. If you strum full force over and over you can hear a fading in the signal. It pulses down and up, down and up. You can also see the signal LED fading with the signal. Has anyone else ever experienced this? Are the front 2 instrument channels processed? If so can you turn off or adjust the gating? I'm not running gearbox so I would assume they are unprocessed? If there are no settings to change, and its not a user issue(ya me), then what could be the issue? Second Problem: Having level differences between rear xlr channels. Same mic and same cable come though some channels really quietly. Could this be dirty/faulty inputs? Need to reclean? Third Problem: Upon setting up the UX8 with the new Computer, and checking inputs for clarity, levels, etc. I noticed that while switching from mic to line in channel 7 there is a popping. I'm not talking about physically swapping cables, I'm referring to changing channels in the preferences menu of my DAW. You click from mic to line and POP! Line to mic and POP! No other channels do this. What do you think more dirt and dust in there?
  12. Hi there, I am currently using a UX8 into Logic Pro X for my recording needs. I had a Saffire Pro 40 for a while but then it died on me and I needed a quick backup. Turned out I really liked the UX8 in comparison. But I am now at the crossing point in which I could use some more inputs as I do full live recordings of bands and 8 inputs can easily be used on just my drum bus. I know within apple there is an ability to make an aggregate device and by plugging in two UX8's and making an aggregate device I could POSSIBLY solve my problems. Just wondering if anyone has done this or has a better way to do so. If I was using the saffire I could just hook up an ADAT interface and rout it through that way, but the UX8 lacks an ADAT input. Thanks in advance!
  13. Hello. I have a problem with UX8. On my MacBook (Snow Leopard, and El Capinan) work fine. Drivers for Snow Leopard on that computer was downloaded long ago. But now I need to connect it to another computer (also on Snow Leopard). New drivers DONT WORK on that old system. Even Monkey is showing "no driver" (unit in visible in monkey). I would install old driver BUT! all the links are DEAD. Only two latest drivers are online. I tried every single link in TonePort UX 8 on Line 6 page. I need old drivers for OSX, anybody? Please help :)
  14. Hi, I know there's a guy with a similar issue to me in another topic, which I've replied to, but I thought I'd post something myself in case someone can give me an answer more directly/quickly. The first time I tried using it I had a bass guitar plugged directly in and was getting some levels in Logic ready to record, all was working fine, I was getting sound and levels on the front of the device. But, for seemingly no reason, the device randomly froze up, the VUs stopped moving and the sound cut out. Not only that but pressing the power button did nothing, it remained lit up. I even left it like that for a while to see if it might sort itself out but nothing. Finally, I just had to switch off the main power at the wall and then it turned off. I'm nowhere near a service centre, unfortunately, so if anyone's got any advice or maybe encountered this problem before and fixed it and could help, I'd be hugely grateful!! Many thanks, Paul
  15. I have a ux8 that I bought probably about 4-5 years ago that I used mainly for recording drums. I have not used it though in about 1 1/2 - 2 years and it seems like there is a problem with the power. When I first plugged in the power cable and usb and hit the power button nothing lit up. After I hit the power button a couple of times it finally lit up but my computer would not recognize anything on the usb port. First I tried with an old p.c. someone had given me that still has windows xp on it and I had too many problems, not only with the power but also with the usb port recognizing it and with monkey not downloading and installing the drivers properly. So then I decided to instead try my mac and install everything and tried it on there but the drivers still will not download properly or at least monkey keeps saying that I need to DL new drivers or there is a little yellow triangle with a !. But the power is really what seems to be more of the problem. Most of the time it does not turn on or at least the 2 gauges do not light up and the 2 different times they did light up when I hit the power button the 2 lights did not turn off??? Did not matter how many times I hit the power button they would either not turn on at all or the 2 different times they did turn on when hitting the power button, would not turn off. I'm stumped.
  16. I bought a UX8 about 4-5 years ago and when I brought it home it was obvious that it had already been opened and looked like it was either sold and returned once before or maybe was refurbished or something. When I opened the box there were no cords or cables of any kind that came with it so I had to use other USB and power cable's I already had for it. So as far as the power cable is concerned, since I am having problems with the power and I want to make sure I am using the right cable's, my question is... The back of the UX8 says -- 100 - 240V~ 50 - 60Hz 100 W Max. When it comes to the actual writing or imprint on the power cable what should it read?? Also with the USB, is there a particular type of cable I need to use? Thanks in advance for any advice or help.
  17. Thereis a annoying buzz that constantly humms when I activate cubase or reason. I noticed it seems to be a common problem with a lot people. maybe its too much for a usb cable to run a preamp and a 8 channel audio interface with compressors. people said balanced cables helped solve the problem but a lot of people were still having the problem regardless. anybody have any solutions to this problem or am i just lollipoped as one person on the forum stated...
  18. Hi, when connecting the balanced outputs of the UX8 to the unbalanced inputs of the Roland MC-909 should I use a balanced or unbalanced cable? What effect would using balanced vs. unbalanced have on the signal?
  19. HI! I've TonePort UX8 and since few months had a problem with noise and cracks on guitar inputs in TonePort UX8. I've opened it and found something on capacitors. Are they broken and need to be replaced? This substance is in Guitar Input Section and in Power Suply Unit also. Please see photos. Best regards, Marcin
  20. Hi! I am a sonar X3 (PC) new user with a line6 UX8 interface. Sonar X3 is playing old projects without any issue. I can also record a guitar using input #1 and #2 (instruments inputs). The same is happening with old sonar X2. I can use loops saving in a new track and play it back. The problem comes when I try to record with mic using any others inputs (#3 to #8). I just can not have the mic signal anyway. All my drivers seems to be updated. I have tried deferents mics and cables to be sure that it is not the problem. Does anyone have faced a problem like that? Does anyone have any suggestion to try?
  21. Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help-my Toneport UX8 has been working fine ever since I got it, about 4 years ago (2nd hand), but now all of a sudden outputs 1 to 4 have stopped sending. They are sending in the System Preferences window, but are not producing an analogue output. Channels 5-8 are working fine. I've tried firing up the Monkey for any possible updates, but I think it's all ok. Could it be a physical disconnection inside the unit? Thanks, Oli.
  22. Hi guys I am new to the community so I hope I have posted correctly. I need to replace the main volume pot on my UX8 . I have got the part from LINE 6 but am not sure how the unit comes apart !! Has anybody got any advice for me as I can find no service manuals or circuit diagrams etc.anywhere. :( I have tried a switch cleaner spray but its' effectiveness does not last long !! Thanks in anticipation !! Derek
  23. Hey all, I'm new here on the forums. Just joined the other day. So, my main topic of interest is with using a Toneport UX8 & Pro Tools 10.. I've downloaded all the necessary drivers & gearbox & everything, set it all up and when I launch a session in PT, it prompts me with a popup that claims the ASIO properties have been changed in the device control panel.. Which is very frustrating cause I have everything set up the way it should be.. Anybody have any luck using a UX8 & PT 10?? Thanks guys! -Matt
  24. Hi, I have recently moved from PC to mac OSX. I used to use Cubase and Reason on PC but am wondering what would be the best program to invest in for Mac... I use the TonePort UX8. I am thinking Audition CC. Does anyone know if there will be any hiccups or if something else is best suited? I can get a good deal on Audition CC so thats why i'm considering it... Any guidance will be appreciated! Thanks, Dean
  25. Hi all, I'm looking at purchasing myself a Rega turntable as an early Christmas present. I don't have an amp though and was wondering: Could I connect the turntable into my Line6 UX8 phono in and then have it play through the Studio Monitors I have connected to the UX8 output? Essentially the UX8 would be the amplifier... And could I do this without the PC being on essentially bypassing the PC??? Flip I hope the answer is yes! Thanks, Dean
