  1. Just curious, does hooking a Variax up DIRECTLY to the Stadium just do nothing now? I am NOT a fan of the fact that I will now need to spend over $200 for an outboard piece of gear (Expand D10) to have the same Variax functionality as I've always had with my Helix, on top of the $2200 for a Stadium XL. The cost is one factor but I also just like the all-in-one solution of my Helix and don't want to have to bring and hook up another piece of gear. If I keep my Stadium XL pre-order, I may just go back to using my Variax with the battery and 1/4" output, though I hate to do that as I currently have ever preset recall guitar/pickup/tuning in the Variax as well. And sometimes change tunings for a slide solo or such. Just trying to suss out if I want to lose some of my favorite functionality for the benefits of a Stadium, or deal with a D10, or maybe just play my non-Variax guitars more (though my JTV-69 remains my #1 guitar and I am deeply disappointed Variaxes were discontinued as someone who has used one since the very first model)! DILEMMAS.
  2. I know that with Stadium you need the Expand D10 for Variax control (boooooo) but I'm curious if anyone knows if plugging the Variax into the Stadium directly (without the D10) will at least POWER it, even if I can't fully control it.
  3. Is there any where to order the output Jack for a jtv59? Part Line 6 50-04-0079-3. I'm guessing it's long out of production and I can't find one anywhere
  4. I have a Helix, and JTV-69 Variax. Recently I noted that I am unable to select "Don't Force" under the options for Variax Model, in the Input parameters for the Helix. If I unplug the Variax, then the "Don't Force" option is available as the most counter-clockwise selection under the "Variax Model" selection knob. However, as soon as the Variax is plugged back in to the Helix, the "Variax Model" on the Helix jumps to the current model on the guitar, and if the selection knob is turned fully counter-clockwise, the "Don't Force" option is no longer there. I'm pretty sure that this is abnormal behavior and that I have been able to not force the Variax model on patches in the past. I've tried reloading firmware on the Variax, and on the Helix (3.8). I've also tried reloading firmware 3.71 on the Helix and so far, no change to the odd behavior. My only workaround so far is to unplug the Variax, select "Don't Force" under the input "Variax Model", and save the patch. The patch will operate properly, in not altering the Variax Model, even though the "Don't Force" option does not show up. The problem then, is if I were to select a Specific Variax Model for a patch, there would be no way to go back to "Don't Force", without unplugging the guitar. I would appreciate anyone with a Helix and Variax confirming that when the Variax is plugged into your Helix, that you still have the "Don't Force" option available to you under the Variax Model options.
  5. I use my Helix combined with my Variax to let me play bass on parts of a song and take a solo in the middle. This has worked well for months, but recently there have been a variety of problems. 1) sometimes the pitch shifting does not work at all: I want to hear bass, but all I hear is normal guitar. I then try disconnecting/reconnecting the Variax, switching to another patch and back, etc. Sometimes that works, sometimes not. All unpredictable. 2) today, the low E string would suddenly shift from an octave down back up to normal tuning, with no obvious precursor (I was not touching the Helix or the guitar knobs). And sometimes on normal patches, a string would suddenly be a bass string. I would appreciate any points to help me troubleshoot this. Given the erratic and unpredictable nature of the failures, it may be challenging. Thanks. Jon
  6. I use workbench HD v 2.15 to edit the models on my my JTV-59, I run it on Mac OS Ventura 13.4 but I want to update to the latest OS which is Sequoia 15.2 but since the latest versions of workbench HD came out almost 10 year ago I'm afraid it won't run on the latest Mac OS, does anyone have experience running workbench on Sequoia? Does it still runs on the latest Mac OS?
  7. I have two Variax JTV guitars and want to copy all of the settings from the 1st guitar to the 2nd one. I tried to this by saving a Bundle from the 1st one, loading it into the Workshop and then Transferring all of the settings to the 2nd guitar. That seems to have worked a bit: when I rotate the knob with the presets on it (Lester, Acoustic, etc) they are the same on the 2nd guitar as on the 1st guitar. But... The tunings on the 2nd guitar are not the same as the 1st guitar. In addition, the 2nd guitar does not work properly with my Helix. Patches that cause the 1st guitar to change key (electric capo) fail on the 2nd guitar. Any thoughts?
  8. I went to use my Variax with my Helix today and it didn't work. It happened before and I'm not sure wh. First I checked if another car 5 cable worked. I tried a guitar cable along with the Variax cable. It connected. To see if the cable was providing power I took out the battery and I was able to select instruments on the Variax. So the cable is powering it, but not transmitting signal. I have a JTV-69S and Helix floor. I suspect one or the other may need a reset or something. Any suggestions welcome.
  9. Where can I buy a James Tyler Variax 89f? I am not able to find a store in Europe that sells it.
  10. The Helix and the Variax are a powerful combination. I know I can change the tuning of each individual string and volume of each string for each preset. I'd like to add a bass octave to the E string, but *only* the E string. In theory I'd like to take the bottom track and use it exclusively for modeling the lowest string to add a bass effect and then the top track for everything else. However, it doesn't seem that this is possible. I was wondering if any of you knew how I could maybe achieve that?
  11. Is the James Tyler Variax/Variax Standard/Shuriken guitar still manufactured? No, it is no longer manufactured. Despite this, retailers may still have units in inventory over time. Why is it no longer manufactured? Typically, as with many companies, the decision to end the manufacture of any YGG product is based on one or more of these factors: a lack of market demand, a planned successor product, or because the parts to manufacture it are no longer available. What product will replace it? For a number of reasons vital to our business, we can't comment on future product releases, but follow us on social media or sign up for our email list to receive new product announcements. Why is it at a lower price? You may find the James Tyler Variax/Variax Standard/Shuriken guitar at a lower price at retailers to allow them to clear their inventory of this discontinued product. If I buy it, will you honor the warranty? Yes. The full warranty applies if bought as new from an authorized Line 6 retailer and a receipt copy is furnished. See our Warranty page for details. In what ways will the discontinued product be supported? You can find manuals on our Legacy Products page, additional information at our Knowledge Base, tutorial videos on our YouTube Support channel, and our Customer Support team can be reached from our Contact Us page.
  12. I have a helix and a variax. I want to use snapshots so there won't be audio ramp-up when you switch presets. I want a Strat sound on Snapshot 1 and a Banjo on Snapshot2, for example, but it appears that inputs can not be changed between snapshots on a preset. Is there a way to alternate variax tones (under input) between a given preset's snapshots? I'm looking at using two separate paths in a preset, but am not sure how to select paths in a snapshot.
  13. Hi, got my first variax standard yesterday and blown away with the models. Not so with the Alt tuning which does not play isolated Alt tuning notes but a blend of original and Alt note/s. I’ve tried thru a helix lt and direct to amp (quilter tone block frfr) and on daw monitoring and it’s the same. However the recorded sound in the last instance was just the Alt notes. What’s going on? I ran monkey and can see, and have updated workbench and the supplied vdi-usb interface but monkey does not see the guitar as a device so no info on firmware or opportunity to flash etc. However, Workbench does download and update the presets to the variax and I have set custom presets with my 1/2step down setups but the same effect. The model/mags balance is set to 100% model for sure in all these examples. the only oddity I recall when unpacking was the model select knob fell off and had to be pushed back on but seems to do its job. Any advice please as I don’t want to give up on it just yet as I had high hopes.
  14. hello everybody, i have variax 600 guitar and i can't find a way to connect with mac os mojave software , can't find varaix workbench or workbench HD , what can i do .. kindly if anyone can help me for this lollipopen lollipop .... Or I will sell it
  15. So I recently got a Variax limited and have been using it for a few weeks now, today I go to plug it in and there’s nothing. So I check the battery and found that it wasn’t charged so I charged it, I come back and try it and still nothing. The magnetics work but the modelling doesn’t, I tried with a battery and 1/4 cable, I tried with a battery and a variax cable, and without a battery and a variax cable, still none of the modelling works, and the magnetics don’t work through the variax cable like usual, basically everything variax has stopped working. I’ve never had this happen and the instrument is still new, I don’t remember anything weird happening, as far as I remember I played it last night just fine with the modelling. What can I do to try and fix this and what can I do to try and diagnose the problem? thanks so much in advance! to note: workbench hd is also not recognising the guitar.
  16. I wanted to ask a question because I've not seen anything about this anywhere else. When you change models, or if you have a model with a switch setup that goes between different pickups, is there a noise gap?
  17. Hello! the 4th string on my variax shuriken makes no noise when i turn on the modeler unless i go into workbench and set the magnetics to 100%. If the variax is turned off and i play, there is no issues with ti. any idea what could be causing this?
  18. Hello. I bought JTV-59 this month. The modeling sound works perfectly on Helix, and there were no other hardware problems(maybe) But the problem is, I can't connect to Workbench HD. My USB interface has a green light on my PC, but Variax in side has a red light.(blinking..) I think there is a problem with the USB interface because the modeled sound is coming out well in my Variax with Helix Has anyone experienced the same problem as me? Please give me some advice. Summary 1. JTV - RJ45 cable - USB interface - PC, but Variax in side is blinking with red light. 2. The JTV turned on the power using a 1/4 jack. 3. The volume is 10. 4. All firmware has been updated, but Flash memory is not visible (probably because it is not connected to Variax) 5. We connected the extra CAT5 but it still doesn't work. 6. The modeled sound of the guitar comes out perfectly. 7. I can set up JTV in Helix Edit and POD500X Edit. 8. USB interface is a black model/ 9. When the Workbench is operated on a PC through JTV-Helix-USB, the following phrase pops up. <The connected Variax is not compatible with workbench HD. You must use a James Tyler Variax version 2.00 or higher. Thank you in advance for your help.
  19. Does anyone know if it is possible to bend the pitch of individual strings up or down on the Variax by use of the Helix expression pedal or using a momentary switch? Similar to another product by another company. Bending the string controlled with expression pedal as if using a finger to bend the string.
  20. Hi I have bought a used Onyx Limited Edition, but I have got no papers. Is there any SW method to see the serial number? Perhaps looking at some window in a menu of Workbench. Is there any physical place of the guitar where is printed the serial number? Thanks! Regards Pablo
Gracias!
  22. Hi folks! I've recently started using my Variax Standard for a 60s tribute band, and a few weeks ago I had a string break at the bridge (4th). Today the same thing happened at exactly the same spot. There's no rough or sharp point at the saddle, so, has anyone got any ideas? I've just restrung with Elixirs. Is this a common thing with Standards? I sweat a fair bit so is it my sweat causing the string to fail? Chris - Nottingham, UK
  23. I'm interested to know if anyone else using a JTV Variax guitar into Helix experiences issues with the Helix 'forgetting' patch information when Helix updates. This has happened to me every time I've done a Helix update, and even again on the 3.10 update this week. I normally use the Variax mags as my preferred pickups, but on occasion for as our setlist requires it, I set up for a drop D or open G tuning or move standard tuning steps up and/or down. The have to be done with Variax guitar models. These patches will also sit alongside patches where I am not using tunings or Variax guitar models. I find I have to go back in to each of these patches and persuade them to remember the Variax aspect of the patch. It particularly seems to affect patches where I have altered tunings. So, I'm interested to see if this is just me, and I'm missing some little trick in my set up, or if others experience the same, and if they do, why can this not be solved as part of the software/firmware update?
  24. Hello, i just recently purchased a variax-jtv 69s from sweetwater. I am currently using a Spider V with the FBV 3 foot board. I'm wondering if is possible to control the variax from the FBV3 like the helix floor can? Thank you.
  25. Hi Years ago a strap gave way and the body of my beloved Variax Bass hit the floor. Not too hard but any is too much. I'm pretty sure the next time I plugged it in, it did not work. It was years ago but i'm pretty sure the drop did it. I just set my gear up and tried it again in case I overlooked something. Still no sound, Just a green light on the bass and xps-DI. Is there something easy that may have come loose that I can spot and fix inside? If not, who can repair this for me in NYC please? Thanks, Tony
