Hi fellas 1st post here so please be gentle. I have recently joined a band after a few years out and am using a FHFX. The question I have is, Is there a way to have 2 identical patches but with different volumes that I can put next to each other so I have a rhythm patch and a lead patch? Thanks in advance

Hi, I'm asking for a little advice. I was on a mission to change my tubes, and maybe I still need to, because I wasn't getting the drive and crunch I'm after. I have a Bugera Trirec, used, so the tubes could be 6 years old. If I plug my guitar in the guitar in on the amp and crank it, it sounds great. If I use the 4 cable method, without amp and cab, without stomps, it doesn't seem to have the punch. I setup a test with a dB meter and played some chords with just the guitar in at 100dB, sounded great. Did the same thing with the FH and I was only at 82dB, so I started tweaking. I couldn't seem to get the same sound and volume without getting tons of noise and hiss, sometimes with feedback. I didn't adjust the amp at all, just the FX Loop, guitar in, the "no Amp", and master out. The FX Loop outputs are on stomp and the FH output is on AMP. If I change to LINE on the output, of course it cranks. There are levels on the FX Loop, I've adjusted them up, makes bad noises, not too good, +5dB seems OK. I think I can lower the master output and use the LINE output setting, but that doesn't seem right. Anyone else? Thanks, Jason

Hey guys, New Helix LT owner here (still withing return period), been hd500x user for years. Here is my problem. This is how I used to operate Hd500x: I would setup my presets (doesn't matter what's inside really), balance the levels to my liking, and then add a volume block at the end of each preset tied to expression pedal. This way I had sort of a master volume on my HD no matter which preset I am in. I knew that if I need to dial myself down, I will still be in balance volume-wise once I jump to another preset. Now with Helix, It seems to totally ignore the fact that I have set EXP1 and EXP2 position set to be Global, and when I switch between presets, it sets volume block pedal position to whatever it was when I saved it. IT DOESN'T apply the actual position of the pedal upon switching between presets. What do I do here? I MUST be able to control my overall unit level, and it just worked on HD500x. FYI, before I created any sounds on it, I went ahead and upgraded to 2.21 software, so all my patches are "native" 2.21. Am I missing something here? LOVE the unit, but this is becoming a showstopper. Giant volume jumps when going from preset to preset, not usable. Any help and tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Is is just me or is the overall volume on the Variax really low? My Squier Tele with Dimarzios has three times the output level of the Variax Tele. The Strat is a frekken joke. Im having trouble hearing what Im playing while Im recording BTW. Im recording through a Centrance Axeport Thanks /Bo

So here's the scenario in a nutshell: I am playing live at church in front of several hundred people. I have one patch set up with the expression pedal controlling the volume for swells. The song ends and I move the expression pedal to the full heel position to mute the guitar. I change to another patch for next song, in which I have the expression pedal assigned to control the mix level of the octo-reverb. The drummer counts us off and I go to start the opening line and I have nothing - no volume whatsoever. So I start frantically waving at the sound guy while pointing to my guitar thinking he may have leaned on the mute button - he looks over the board and shrugs. I go back to the previous patch with the volume pedal and still nothing. I work the volume pedal back and forth, and eureka - there it is! I switch back to the patch with the octo-reverb and I have full volume. Is there a setting I'm overlooking that will prevent this in the future? Am I saving my tones with the expression pedal in the wrong position or something? This is the second time I've been hosed in a live situation by this. I have also played outdoors and been hosed by the sunlight freaking out the optical trigger, but that's something I can live with as I just throw a rag over the expression pedal.

Hello all, I have an MKII shortboard that I'm trying to use the expression pedal for wah. Also, I have a Mission Engineering EP1-L6 expression pedal I want to use for volume. In HD Edit the shortboard wah pedal has an FS ASSIGN of EXP TOE SWITCH and the controller is EXP-1. The Mission pedal has an FS ASSIGN of NONE and the controller is EXP-2. The Mission pedal keeps randomly disconnecting from the MKII (and HD Edit). I can plug it into the MKII and both the red wah and green volume led lights are lit indicating the mission pedal is connected, but as soon as I step on the wah the Mission pedal disconnects. It has disconnected from just rocking the wah. I made sure I saved the preset. I don't know what else it could be, I'm hoping I just have the settings wrong. Going bonkers here, any help will be greatly appreciated. Edit: I'm connecting to a POD HD PRO X. (Flash Firmware 2.62, USB FW 1.04) -
Hi all. I'm new to these forums and have a very frustrating issue... I play Bass guitar I use it a simple GX interface for headphone jamming/learning to my favorite songs in private while the wife sleeps etc... I have GearBox, PodFarm2, Monkey and was running a UX-1 and am now running a GX interface. Something happened when I went to the newest downloads from GearBox, Toneport and Monkey. Now my volume is extremely low, (like tuning mode) and I cannot figure out how to get it higher. I also lost all my user-made tones. My previous UX-1 would cut out to 1/2 vol when turned all the way to 10, so backing off to 8 somehow boosted it and gave me the most volume. Still very low. Thought there was a problem so I bought a simple GX and the SAME THING is happening. :( Can anyone help? I'm chained with a Gate, Vol pedal, and compression. That's it! What the heck is going on? The Helix LT is awesome. Not had it long, but damn is it impressive. There's just one thing bugging me about amp emulation. Example… Fender Deluxe Reverb. On a real one (excluding the built in Vibrato and Reverb) the only pots are VOLUME, TREBLE, BASS. Note that there is no MIDDLE pot, unlike a Fender Twin. However, on the Helix Deluxe Reverb model, I have DRIVE, BASS, MIDDLE, TREBLE, PRESENCE, CH VOL, MASTER, etc. I dislike how Helix amp controls seem to be a one size fits all approach. I find it very hard to dial in the sound of my real Deluxe Reverb into a Helix emulated version. There's effectively THREE pots that control volume! There is no DRIVE channel on a real Deluxe Reverb either, yet dialing down the DRIVE to zero gets you complete silence. Then there's the EQ issue. I could be wrong about this, but I've heard that the EQ on a Fender blackface only 'removes' frequencies and doesnt add any to the sound. It certainly behaves that way. So having both TREBLE and BASS dialed up to 10 is basically your guitar's original signal, and anything less is either removing bass or treble, depending on which pot you adjust. The Helix pots do not seem to behave like this though. It seems more like 50% is the normal signal and anything more will ADD to the signal. Again, frustrating. I realize that Line 6 can't really change this way of working without screwing up everybody's existing patches, but it would be nice to have an option in the preferences (or perhaps on a per patch basis) for 'Legacy' or 'New' amp controls. 'New' of course being a more faithful to what controls are on the actual amp. Strange that they DO appear to go all out on modelling the controls of effects pedals, e.g. I noticed that the OCD effect even has the HP switch and a switch to toggle between versions of the pedal! You may ask why I need to have the amp modelled so precisely, if I have the real amp, but there's a million obvious reasons why i'd want an emulated version too, such as for playing through headphones or recording direct to Logic. Anyway, i'm mainly just sounding off, but any thoughts or advice would be appreciated! -
Hi all, was wondering where i can get a pot for the guitar volume knob on the AX2? Recently bought a used ax2 with a floorboard for the low price of 100 dollars. Im pretty happy so far, but the guitar volume knob is broken clean off, so i need a new pot. According to this thread the specs for the pots are 10K, linear, 25mm, D shaft pot. A quick search on both ebay and mouser shows that there are pretty much none available that match the specs. The line6 store also dont have any in stock right now. Does anyone know where i can get a potentiometer to replace my old one with? Also, does anyone know where i can get new pushbuttons for the floorboard? the "Channel A" and "Channel B" buttons work if i roll my finger on the switch just right. I did find a listing on ebay that seems to match fairly well, but if anyone knows the exact specs that would be fantastic. Thanks. - Sondre/RageNorge

So I am further down the rabbit hole with the Firehawk FX. Truth be told, I have been following alot of the Pod HD500x and Helix training videos on youtube due to the massive lack of presence the Firehawk seems to have out there in the wild. There is really nothing available on it compared to these other device. One helix video I came across was normalizing patch volumes using your computer DAW/interface. I found it very valuable. You can see that video here: Reading up around the Helix forums as well lead me to realize alot of people use their computer DAW to set patch volumes. The general consensus is, because this is a DIGITAL device (I still have a hard time realizing I have to treat this thing differently than a standard amp, because of digital clipping) is that your patch volumes should hit about -12DB on your input meter with your most authoritative strum - when you whack at your strings the hardest it should peak about -12 db. I run my Firehawk into my Yorkville YX10P with the following consistencies: Output volume (main red rings) = 50% Guitar volume (white red rings) = 54% (or the exact middle of the dial) This seems to be a common practise to keep things consistent across the board. With my guitar input volume right in the middle at 54%, I noticed that basically all my patches as they are currently set were clipping HARD. Amps' that I had set for Channel volume slider at 70% or sometimes 50% had to be brought down generally into the 20-25% channel volume range for the signal to hit that -12DB marker on my DAW. Theoretically then...with alot of the amp volumes down much lower, I can push my Firehawk master output volume (red ring) higher, which from what I am reading online would give me a better signal to noise ratio overall. So that leads me to the following questions regarding 'digital guitar' rigs. Is this normal? For whatever reason it seems like the channel volumes are SO low in this configuration. However there is an interplay here between the guitar input volume (white ring) and the channel volume. If I decrease the guitar input volume, then naturally there is less signal to the Firehawk and therefore the channel volumes would like come up higher to compensate. Would both of these situations sound the same ultimately? Is one better than the other? I assume that having the volumes lower like this WILL reduce digital clipping and probably make my guitar sound better overall. Also, with a much more higher powered FRFR like the Stagesource L2M or something, I would be able to push a louder cleaner signal into it by having the ability to run the overall master volume (red ring) higher. Anybody have any feedback on this? I am new to digital guitar rigs so please bare with me as I try to sort this out with a little help from my friends! Thanks crew :D

I know there are lots of threads about using the 4CM with tube amps but I couldn't really find what I was looking for, so, here goes another one. The idea is this, I have a marshall JCM 2000 DSL100, I want to use my marshall's preamp for distortion and the pod hd500x's preamp for my clean sounds. I'm connecting my guitar to the pod's guitar input, the pod's main output to my amp's fx retunr, my amp's fx send to the pod's fx return, and the pod's fx send to my amp's input. For my dirty tone I basically created a pach with basically a noise gate, a wah, and a tube screamer, I leave the amp block empty and after the mixer I put the "FX loop" block and after that a delay and a reverb. For my clean channel, I put the Fx block at the very start of the signal chain, after that, a chorus, phaser, a fender amp (without the cab sim) and after the mixer, delays, reverb, etc. So, my first problem is that while I was testing this configuration today, I realized that the "clean" tone sounded a lot louder than the dirty channel, my amp's preamp (btw, I also noticed that after putting the pod in the signal chain there's a general volume drop in the amp, but I don't mind as long as it sounds right) so, the things is, I can lower the clean amp (pod's amp simulation) but when I do, it affects the amp's simulation tone, If I lower the master volume, my dirty channel loses input so it lowers the distortion, so: 1 - What would be the best way to approach this problem and get balanced levels without affecting the tone too much? 2 - Is the order I place the effects (for both the dirty and the clean patches)correct or is there a more recommendable way to do it? 3 - Also, in the back of my amp, there's a loop level switch (-10/+4 effects) where should I leave it? 4 - If I'm not using any external effects, should I set my pod's out to stomp or line level? because for me it makes sense to leave it at "line" but I've read a few topics where people recommended to leave it at stomp with amps and stuff like that anyway. This is regarding the LINE6 AMPLIFi FX100 (Firmware V2.6, Flash Memory updated) I am using the AMPLIFi Remote App (on Sony Xperia Android) to play a song via Bluetooth and it plays at what sounds like 1% volume (extremely quiet). Is there a way to boost the Bluetooth volume? Other Info: Guitar playing comes through at normal volume Phone volume is at max Bluetooth connection good

It seems so clear to me now! What took me so long? Here is the fun way to balance your volume across all of your patches. Go to YouTube Pick a backing track in the style that you most commonly play. I am a funk, blues fusion kind of player so my banks are set up : clean, rhythm crunch, lead. Turn up the amp and turn on the backing track and have fun! I start with rhythm and level all of those so i can switch between them without any volume difference. I move to cleans. My cleans typically are the Eric Johnson style: chorus, 2 delays and comp. I arpeggiate a pretty chord and make sure it cuts properly in the mix. I tweak all of the cleans until I can switch between all of them with no volume difference. Repeat for the other banks and patches A couple of observations in this process... This process assumes you have patches set up that you like. You don't want to get side tracked "fixing" a patch. This is about volume adjustment only. Sometimes you don't need more volume to get a patch to cut through the band mix. Sometimes a simple boost in the mids or other eq adjustments will do the trick. Only use one guitar. Pick the one you use the most. Don't use multiple YouTube videos: pick one and stick with one. That way there is no moving volume target since one video may be louder than the next Works with any guitar: Going from Strat to Les Paul? After you have finished leveling your patches just turn down the overall volume of the amp when you pick up the Les Paul. The patch change volumes are in relation to one another. Should be fine! For Variax players, you can level the volume of your modeled pickups so you won't have to deal with any amp adjustments. I use blue tooth through the amp for the backing track, then I'll put the backing track through the P.A. to confirm that my patches are good. Playing with the band is the final confirmation. Uber fun and useful cause you are playin a boat load of 🎸! And that is always good!

A lot has been written here seeking a solution to the problem of balancing volume levels between presets. One solution that has been offered has been to play into a DAW and watch the output monitor. I ran across this product by TC Electronic for monitoring output levels and figured it might be a solution. I'm not sure it's possible, but it would be nice if this could be used apart from a computer and be used directly plugged into the Helix. Website: http://www.tcelectronic.com/clarity-m/ Technical details: http://www.tcelectronic.com/clarity-m/tech-specs/ It is obviously designed to work in conjunction with a DAW, but could it also work plugged into the USB output or SPDIF output of the Helix directly. My only reason for suspecting this is that Helix outputs 8 channels to a DAW and this device, in the technical specs, indicates that it can monitor individual channels. But I'm hoping someone here can say whether I'm way off or if it's a possibility. Of course, I guess one can always just use it via a DAW, but that would defeat the purpose of having a small device independent of a computer. If it doesn't work with Helix directly, does anyone know of something else that does? If not, I claim it as my intellectual property. Anyone know a good IP lawyer? -
So when I initially turn on my fx100 the master volume (red ring) is at a little below 25%, but the guitar volume (white ring) is incredibly loud at 75%+. The volume stays the same when I cycle between banks a-d, unless I manually lower it through the volume knob. Is there a way to lower and save the overall guitar volume so that it's not loud AF when I initially turn it on? As a reference I'm running it like this Guitar -> guitar in -> Amp out to Orange Micro dark fx return -> Bugera cab

Hello all. I've become excited by the possibilities of using volume pedal to control volume of a totally wet parallel path in Helix, as in this Line 6 video tutorial: I'm new to Helix and when I try to assign a volume pedal block as in the video, at the beginning of the parallel path, and try to have it learn Volume parameter to Exp 1, nothing happens. When I change the parameter to "Gain" then it seems to work but that is not what is shown in the video. Any clues? Is Volume the parameter that I'm seeking or is it Gain? Gain seems to have a very non-linear response even when the linear curve is selected. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Hallo, I´ve a problem with the distortion-volume in contrast with other clean effects... I play the line 6 amplifierTT through my external-soundcard by using the mainoutputs of the TT. My speakers are on highest volume like soundcard and the TT. But if I use an distortioneffect mostly without reverb-effect it is always too quiet and it sucks! If I want to pull it louder it starts to scratch like an overdirve but the level in my soundprogramm is not really high like it is when I use clean-effects which are mostly loud enough and not causing any problems. Is there any trick or advice to use dry distortions and level them up without having those "scratches"?! I´ve already tried it by using eq and reducing the low frequences, also in the "amp/cab". But it isn´t good enough! I want to play clean and distortion on a same level (likeeverybody wants) but it shouldn´t be that quiet that I can still hear the strings... thx for any helpful replies greets

Hello forum I am looking for help on issues with my DL4. I know this is for the JM4, but if someone can help or offer advice where to seek help it would be appreciated. I recently got my DL4. After experimenting with the loop sampler using my micro korg - i realized after recording a loop, the sampled loop will slowly fade out... eventually to no sound at all. This cant be normal for this device?/ What is there to do about this? Thanks- kk

If you're using the FBV 3, or the FBV Shortboard MKII with the Spider V series, you have the option of utilizing an external expression pedal. The external pedal would be plugged into the EXP Pedal jack on the FBV. This is how they interact with the Spider V's patches. On patches without tweak assign to pedal, the external pedal becomes volume, the on-board pedal controls wah position, and toe switch toggles wah bypass. On patches with tweak assigned to pedal, the external pedal controls the tweak-assigned parameter. The on-board pedal controls volume and wah, and the toe switch toggles between wah and volume control.

I currently have no experience with setting up fx processors for live/rehearsal use through a guitar cabinet, but I am thinking about obtaining a Helix (maybe Axe Fx if I'm patient enough) to add a digital rack setup on top of my current tube amp/cab/pedals setup. Just to have the best of both worlds. I want to stick to a solid state power amp, but do I go Rocktron Velocity 300 or Matrix GT800FX/GT1000FX? I obviously want to maximize my sound in terms of quality, but also in terms of volume without blowing my speakers or being too quiet. I'm not sure how wattage in a sold state amp affects this, and I'd like to go Matrix, but only if they don't destroy these cabs with one small or bad turn of a knob because of their high output capabilities -- 400w/channel or 800w bridged for example -- into a 280w Mesa 4x12 (live/rehearsal) or 120w Orange 2x12 (home). But I can't afford to have the 300w Rocktron be too quiet for a live or rehearsal situation even if it does suffice for at-home use. Bottom line: Which power amp should I get and how would I avoid damage? I see people using the Matrix's all the time with cab setups but how do they not blow their cabs? Just keep the Matrix turned down low all the time? Is it an impedance thing? Side note: The Orange also only has a 16 ohm option so without rewiring how would that work, if it can at all since I believe these amps do 8 ohms? I know there's other options for speaker setups but I'm asking specifically about guitar cabinets... for now. I play heavy music. Much appreciated.

Yes I know there's another thread on this but it's dead and I wanted to ask some more questions. I write most patches to be used in house of worship to the board scenario - so I have to control volume increases. The Helix doesn't have an internal VU meter and my cheap mixer at home only shows the signal is clipping - so I'm trying to understand the volume jumps of a parallel path. If I have a pretty simple setup - amp > delay > reverb and I pull the delay or reverb down into a parallel path (creates y split and merge block automatically) - how much is the volume actually increasing? To compensate for that increase, should you lower the volume at the merge block? Any other advise or recommendations for someone setting up patches and trying to limit volume like I do?

Hi, I've got myself a HD500X recently. I want to record music via USB. I had bit of an issues with signal level at the beginning but I've sorterd it out. Think that bugs is the playback level. When I record a track and I would like to decrease its volume before I will come up with another one - so I can hear what am I doing (especially when more of them is present into multitrack. Is there a global knob or setting of the playback level from recording sofware? Thanks for help!

I've had an issue with Mission SP1-L6H Expression Pedals, specifically in regard to volume blocks. When assigned as a volume pedal (in my case, it's connected with a single TS cable to EXP1 on Helix Rack), A 100% parameter value will drop to 0% randomly without the pedal being touched. This, of course, results in a complete loss of output, which has made for some pretty awkward moments on stage. To troubleshoot, I used multiple brand new cables as well as a few different Helix Rack units. After determining my first Mission pedal was the issue, I got a replacement from Sweetwater. To my surprise, the new unit had the same issue. I reached out to Mission, but they said there weren't any other reports of this happening. At this point, it's too late to get a refund, so my Mission pedal is just collecting dust now. I recently purchased a Dunlop DVP3 Volume (X) and I'm using it (Polarity reversed) with my Helix and I've had no issues whatsoever. It's very possible that I just received two faulty Mission units, but I have a feeling it's just an inherent issue with the pedals. I'm hoping someone could help shed some light on the issue.

I just got my Firehawk 1500 and FBV 3 controller. Everything is great so far but I am having a problem. I can rock the volume pedal to its minimum setting but if I change channels, the volume pedal setting is reset and the new channel plays at normal volume. Is there a way to make the volume pedal "global" so that changing channels does not override the volume pedal setting? Thank you. Steve Lockridge

Is anyone else experiencing this? When I roll off the volume I experience some noise. I can fade it in cleanly, but when I fade out there's noise. Same exact noise every time. It only occurs with the models, not magnetics. Firmware 1.03 Flash 1.82b
