    Free volume pedal?

I have pasted below something that I have just stumbled across online. The suggestion has never occured to me but I can't see why it wouldn't work. Does anyone out there control volume this way? "Extra Volume Pedal Adding a volume pedal to your signal chain on the HD500 takes up one of the eight available FX blocks. But there is a way of getting a volume pedal for free and leaving the eight blocks clear for other effects. Highlight your amp model on the screen and double click Move to open the expression pedal setting screen. The parameter you want is “output†and assign it to EXP1 or EXP2. Set the parameter minimum to zero percent and the maximum to whatever volume you’d originally set for the loudest on that patch. Voila, you can now control the amp model volume via the expression pedal without having to add a volume pedal block to your signal chain. And remember, as the channel volume doesn’t affect the tone this really is purely a volume control."
  2. I love the tube gain effect and the screamer and the fuzz! Honestly all of the stomp box distortion fx have something to offer but no matter how I adjust through gain/drive, master/channel volume, the gain fx always have a drop in volume when switched on, compared to the clean tone. I've tried setting them to Post instead of pre and that certainly boosts the volume quite a bit but it sounds awful, pre sounds great. I love being able to switch between clean and dirt as if using an actual pedal but that drop in volume... Anybody else run into this? Have any suggestions? It's pretty consistent throughout all the amp models but I generally use the clean red with tube gain effect, gain 100% drive somewhere between 50 and 85%.
  3. Hello I have a problem. My Pod hd500 does not respond to changes in volume. I have the same volume in this state and in this OS X Maverics. I hope for your help.
  4. Hello, I've recently bought a Flextone III XL and I'm pretty disapointed. I have the same problem detailed in this old post (I don't know why Line 6 locked all topics) http://line6.com/support/message/476712 In my case, volume changes coicide when the light of the channel turns off (both in the floorboard and in the amp). Can it be caused by a digital issue? I know lots of people had the same problem with this amp. Does anybody knows how to fix it? Technical support is very very far away from my home. I can't belive Line 6 don't tell me anything but "take it to the technical support". For what I've seen this is a typical issue of this amp. I would apreciate any help you could give me.

Today im just messing around with it and created a dual amp patch where i can switch from amp a to amp b. While creating it after inserting all the fx, i need to leave 2 blank space ( tge fx block in 500 edit software) as it stated DSP FULL please reduce usage. Anybody experience this and is this a common thing for 500x? e. Anybody experience this and is this a common thing for 500x? Then after successfully deleted the 2 blank effects i discover lost of volume although all the amps A and b cranked up.. i need to put the master knob to full in order to get a decent level of volume. But when i tested other patches downloaded from customtone and few my patches of my own everything is normal except my new created dual amp patch. Lastly, during soloing may i know what u guys use to boost up the volume? Is there any clean boost fx in the 500x. Thanx Reza
  6. Forgive me if I'm posting this in the wrong section. After 10 years of being ont he sidelines, I'm gigging out again. I have the SPider Valve MKI and I love my tone in rehearsal. In a live venue, the tone turns tinny and harsh after about 25 feet out. I'm looking to mic the amp, but I'm wondering if I can use the direct out and run to the sound board. If I do, I'd still like to be able to hear my amp on stage. Does the DO cut the feed to the celestion speaker or does it act like a true cabinet extension? Thanks in advance, Matt

    wah and volume pedal config

Hey! Could someone point me to how to set up both a volume and wah pedal? I don't want to rely on the toe switch, I find I have to really lay into it and sometimes it is finicky when switching (it makes almost a crunching noise which is unnerving). Is it possible to use the switche(s) to toggle between the wah and volume pedal? I typically use the HD500 application to edit. If there is a customtone available I'd appreciate it. In an ideal world, I would want one switch to toggle between wah and volume...not sure that is possible. Thanks, Rick
  8. Some people have reported that after a JTV flash upgrade usually to v2.0 or v2.1, that the B and E strings have very low volume levels in comparison to the E,A,B,G strings on some models. Some have reported that a subsequent reflash or two fixed the problem, and others that they had to roll back to v1.9 to obtain models that had balanced string volumes, and finally some dived in to Workbench HD and tweaked the affected models to balance out the string sounds. I recently hit this issue when I upgraded to v2.1 and a subsequent reflash did not fix it, and as I had a gig coming up I had to roll back to v1.9 as a quick way to get back to balanced string volumes as I did not have the time to go in WB HD and manually adjust for the differences. I think It would be very useful to find out why this problem occurs and why it only affects some users and hopefully Line 6 can then fix the problem. So if we can gather plenty of useful data in this thread then we can pass it on to Line 6 to investigate. Please answer the following questions: if you have you ever had E and B strings at very low volume immediately following a flash upgrade? (a) what flash version were you upgrading from and to? ( B) what model JTV were you updating? © were you updating directly via JTV dongle or indirectly through an HD500 or HD500X or other device? (d) how did you fix the problem? (i) reflash firmware? How many times? (ii) tweaked string volumes global and models in Wokbench HD? (iii) roll back to v1.9 or another fw level? (e) have you ever experienced this problem on a fw release earlier than v2.0 and if so, what level was it? (f) which models had the problem? My answers: (a) v1.9 to v2.1 ( B) JTV59 © updated via HD500 (d) attempted 2 reflashes, but then rolled back to v1.9 (e) no (f) T-MOD positions 1,3,5 and SPANK 1 though 5 Thanks in advance for your help and answers.
  9. I'm having a volume issue with my Spider II 75w combo. I can't get the volume to go below loud. I've had this amp for years, and I could usually use the master volume knob to level the sound at 'won't wake the neighbors' level. Within the last few weeks, however, I can no longer get it to go below about 8/10 -- on any preset or not. With the master turned all the way down, the channel volume all the way down, and no drive, the amp is still super loud. Moving any of these up does increase volume noticeably, but leaving them at 0 is still way loud! I've performed the factory reset, holding the 'A' button down for about 10 seconds while turning the amp on, but I'm still having the problem. Thanks in advance for any help or insight anyone can provide. Always grateful, Michael
  10. I have a spider iv 75 amp with FBV shortboard connected. Can someone tell me why the volume is so high when I turn it on? I have lower and raise the pedal to get the volume back under control.
  11. Does the Ernie Ball VP JR work with the HD500 as the second expression pedal? I was able to get it to work with my old Line 6 M13 I just had to plug it through the output of the JP JR (not the input). I tried searching this forum, but couldn't find an answer. If it doesn't I may have to purchase a Mission Engineering pedal. Thank you in advance for your help!

    Volume Issues With Hd500/dt50

Recently I have been having issues with volume when connecting my HD500 to my DT50 via l6 link. I lost all my patches getting my HD500 serviced, and now when I go to import my setlist back into it from HD500 Edit...The volume is EXTREMELY low after i impoort the tones. I have the Halfstack DT50, and have to roll the volume up all the way up(volume knob pushed in, not pulled out) to barely get a practice volume. there is also a little bit of a hiss like the volume should be super loud, but something is preventing it. Before i imported the patches, i did update the firmware, but from what i can tell, all my output settings are how they should be, and I also tried a different cable for the l6 link. I also know it is not a tube issue, because when you plug a guitar directly into the dt50 without the hd500 hooked up, it sounds fine. Anybody else ever experience this? thoughts? Solutions?lol
  13. Hello, I have an issue with my first gen HD100. When plugged into my 2x12 Avatar cab, even with the master and channel volume all the way up, the amp is extremely quiet. It is still making noise and working but it isn't even as loud as a 5 watt amp. I have already tried changing the power tubes to a matched quad of JJ 6l6s and that did nothing. I am pretty sure it is an issue in the preamp stage since when I plug my guitar into the "poweramp in" I can get loud volumes out of the amp. Just not when running through the normal input... anyone have any ideas?
  14. Ive recently bought a jtv-59 and was using it for jamming in my house run through an AC30 cc2x, as soon as I bought it I had it setup by a pro luthier I use and it played great, I don't think it had ever been updated so was running an earlier firmware, it sounded great, although some of the models were better than others. I really liked the tel, strat and lp. The mags are really nice on it too. I decided to update the variax and now the model volumes are all over the place, the LP model is a little quieter than the mags but the other electric guitar models are incredibly quiet, the acoustic models are about the same output as the mags, I cant see a way of balancing out and increasing the models to match the mags, everything seems to be at 100% in workbench, this has made the models unusable for me which kind of defeats the purpose of having a variax. can anyone help with this, I don't really want to go back, also the models sound a little thin and high endy, its a total pain having to constantly adjust the vox for each models tone and volume

    M9 Looper Volume

Hi all, is it possible to control the volume of the looper on the M9 with an expression pedal? If so, how?
  16. Hey guys, I have an annoying problem that's just started this week with my UX1. It's not transferring sound to the right speaker in my headphones, despite showing output levels on both sides are fine. This isn't just with the guitar tone either, this is a problem as a whole soundcard. Itunes, Youtube, even general system noises all come through the left headphone only. I've tried using three different sets of headphones and updated all my drivers but the problem is still here. Help!

    Pod Hd Volume

Up until last week I've always had problems getting levels and volume from the POD at consistently the same level so that you can switch from high gain models to clean without tweaking the amp settings, mixer setting and master output all the time. Set it in the house for a gig, then find at the gig sound check you need to adjust, then when people soak up all the sound have to adjust again. Also the sound tone has been alright but never really performed like some of the tones you here when you play some professional samples on-line. I'd always put his down to signals levels (mic, inst, line etc) and the combination of the stack, direct, combo and power and the amp. To some extent this is true but I've got a pretty good amp Blackstar HT20 and have never quiet got the tones out of it via the POD that I do when going the guitar to amp route. I'd tried 4 cable method to stop pre-amp stacking, HD direct to the fx return loop to go to the power amp side etc and all sorts of other combinations including DI's and monitors to try and work out the differences. I accept that there will be a little different but some of my tones were pretty crap sounding and I couldn't seem to work out why. I realised last week that everything you do with settings above is all about the carrier levels not the musical signal wave where the tone is. The lights came on and I had the tools to do something about it also. So hooked the POD HD direct to Reason and used that as the HD ASIO interface rather than the Balance. Fired up the BIG meter set to VU and Peak with the hold level marked and switched in a couple of patches. Levels very messy and all over the place transient clipping, VU hitting red + dB's, it's digital so if you do that it's never going to sound great. Left POD HD output to stack and little black switch to amp and started systematically on the POD HD using the Amp drive and volume plus the Mixer output to get the VU to about -16dB and checking that the peak didn't take too far an excursion. The other thing that instantly jumped out at me was left/right panning and the routing, I'd normally just run one chain panned to the middle. However keep the signal path 1 left and signal path 2 right you get a VU and Peak at the same level, pan either one and they'll deviate, obvious when you see it but not intuitive as the sneaky channel 2 chain can have an impact with nothing on it really. With my amp Levels great, Volume great, Master now is a volume signal master regardless of the amp patch's and effects. - Happy days, just have to try it with another amp at the next practice to see if it is now really plug and play. Maybe should have posted this to the knowledge base but thought I share as it's solved one of my headaches. Jason
  18. Hey guys. I'm having a bit of a volume issue that I'm looking to sort out. As we know, the Vox AC30 preamp on the POD is drastically more quiet that the full version. However, topology 3 on the DT (with no HD500 connected) can go very loud - as loud as all other topologies on the amp. My question is how/whether I can use the amp to model the AC30 preamp and simply use the HD500 for effects. It's just that the AC30 preamp on the POD is so damn quiet. By this logic, the Vox will be a lot louder, with my HD500 still connected and in use. Is it doable, or are we herding cats here? Thanks! Nick.

    Pod 500hdx Volume Control Issue

Recently purchased a 500HDX because my old 500HD started having issues with the volume pedal control. Now with my new 500HDX installed I am having different volume issues? Basically anytime I program the expression pedal to control a perimeter that perimeter freezes up in one position? It isn't mechanical because I see the same issue with my Mission expression pedal as I do on the POD? It can't be a damaged POD because as previously stated I had similar issues with the expression pedal on my old POD. I suspected a corrupted firmware download but I have reinstalled firmware several times. Even rebooted back to factory settings with no success.
  20. Has anyone had success in connecting the Sonic Port to studio monitors for sound output? I can hear fine through headphones. I have KRK Rokit 5's. They have a volume knob on the back and if I crank it I still barely hear anything. The product description implies this should be possible: "You can even connect powered studio monitors via the 1/4†mono/stereo guitar/line-level output." Has anyone had success trying this and how?

    Hd500x And Variax Problem

So, my brand new HD500X came yesterday. I've already got a DT25 and a Variax 600. Hooked it up using the L6 Link and the Variax VDI Cable. Problem - the sounds cuts in and out. Tried it with a 'normal' guitar plugged in - no problems. Tried it with Variax plugged in - problem returns. Plugged Variax into my old X3L - no problems. Signal gets through ok and no problems with tone. So at this stage I'm thinking the problem is inside the HD500X. The VDI cable is ok because it works in the X3L, the L6 Link is ok, the rest of the HD500X is ok because the strat worked through it. Am I missing something here, or have I got a dodgy POD?
  22. I got POD Farm a while ago with my UX2, but it has always had a bad sound. It sounds like it's being played through one of those little 9V-battery-powered amps, rather than a professional, high quality amp, even when the volume is turned up. No matter how much I turn up the gain (I've even boosted my treble to the max and cut the low-mids out), it still sounds like it's muffled, and it sounds really bad. Even when I plug the cable into it and it makes the buzzing sound that usually happens, even that sounds muffled. It sounds like I'm plugging it into a $15 interface rather than a professional guitar amplifier. NOTICE: I play different songs on YouTube that have the same settings as I use, and the songs I listen to there have a high-quality tone. So I'm almost certain it's not the speakers. HERE IS MY EQUIPMENT: -MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.8.5) PROCESSOR: 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo MEMORY:3 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM -Creative Inspire T3300 Speakers (They have a 1/8" input jack that I connect to the "headphones" input on the UX2 using an adapter) -High-quality guitar cable -Agile Interceptor Pro 930 with 30" scale and active pickups -This guitar is HIGH-QUALITY and has a very bright tone, and it should have one on POD Farm, but it doesn't. Is there a reason for the tone sounding really bad? Are there settings on my computer or something that I can change? OR could I upgrade my sound card?
  23. Hi all, quick question: I'd like to be able to activate my Wah via a footswitch instead of useing the expresion pedal toe switch. I like playing live with my volume pedal around 80% it gives me some room to boost when needed and such. My problem is that in order to switch over to WAH useing the expresion pedal toe switch, I have to max out my volume pedal in order to activate it, then i'm stuck at 100% volume for my Wah when what I really want is about 80%. Is there any way around this? I've tried setting the Wah to be controlled by a footswitch but it doesn't seem to work the way that I was hopeing for. Thanks for your time.

    Post Vs Pre Volume Control

It used to be, that I could change which stage the volume control actually effect, pre and post stages. pre would control volume, post would control tone, this was with a spider valve that actually did this with, is this possible with the pod hd pro?
  25. Hi, I have had a POD XT Live for several years now but I have never gotten into using it live as I originally intended because I find that the volume levels from tone to tone are so inconsistent I am afraid of blowing people out or being too quiet when I switch from one factory-preset tone to another. I can't understand why, for example, if I go from the Treadplate tone to, say, the That's All Right Mama tone, it changes volume from blown-eardrum nuclear bomb level to whispering from two towns over level. What gives? is there something wrong with my device? Am I doing something wrong? I know I can go into each tone and save new levels but I can't believe they wouldn't just set them consistently in the first place. Does anyone else have this experience and problem, or is it just me?
