Q: Will PODxt or X3 tones work with the POD HD series? A: No. The POD HD tone architecture was built from the ground up and is different then our XT ands X3 series of PODs. Q: Will POD HD500X/500 tones work with the smaller 300 and 400 HD PODs? A: No. The POD HD500 routing capabilities make it far more flexible than the HD300 and HD400. Because of this, tones created in the HD500 will not translate over to the HD300 and HD400.

GearBox 3.72 is the most current version of our amp/effects modelling software editor for compatible USB hardware devices. Download the bundled installation file from our Downloads page at: http://line6.com/software/ From the "Software" drop-down list, select GearBox. Click on the red "GO" button to the right. On the following page, the most current version of our bundled installer should be at the top of the list. Version 3.72 is the most current as of this document. Click "Get Download", then accept the licensing agreement. Choose: "Save" to begin transferring the bundled installation file to your local hard drive. Once this file has been completely saved, find it on your hard drive. Make sure your USB hardware device is NOT connected yet. GearBox is the current Amp/Effect modelling software editor application for the following USB Audio Interface devices: GuitarPort, TonePort, POD Studio, PODxt and POD X3 series devices. With it, you can do the following two primary functions: Open up saved (and downloaded) .l6t patches from your hard drive for editing. Afterwards, you can re-save the modified patch file back to your hard drive or sync/transfer the patch to your USB hardware device connected. ***NOTE: POD Farm 2 tone files will NOT load into the Gearbox software. The top-half of GearBox is where you can select Stomp, Amp Model, EQ, Modulation, Delay, Reverb parameters and adjust them via mouse-click/drags to affect the input signal on your connected USB hardware device in real-time.

1. Input settings on User Bank 13 (A, B, C, D) are set incorrectly. Tone 1 is set to GTR 1 + Variax and Tone 2 is set to Mic 1. Because the XLR and 1/4" inputs on the X3 Pro on the same channel cannot be used at the same time, this will not work. The work around here is to re-save each patch in Bank 13 with the input setting on Tone 2 set to Mic 2. 2. Audio from the Tuner does not mute when connected digitally to audio interface. When using the tuner on the POD X3 Pro, the audio from the tuner does not mute on the S/PDIF and AES/EBU digital outputs even with Mute selected in the Tuner menu screen. 3. Tuner does not work with Guitar 2 Input. The tuner will only tune instruments that are plugged into the Guitar 1 and Variax inputs on the POD X3 Pro.

POD X3 Live Pilots Manual Q: What is the manufacturer warranty of my new POD X3 Live? The manufacturer's warranty for the X3 Bean/Live is one year from the date of purchase. Q: Why do I see an asterisk on my POD X3/Live when I power on my X3 or X3 Live?* A: The X3 Beans and X3 Lives have a 7 second buffer time, which means it needs 7 seconds to completely process any changes you make. At this time please press save twice so that the asterisk* disappears. Wait 7 seconds, and power off then back on again. Q: What are the MIDI implications of the X3 A: The X3 series include a USB connection, and these units will both expose a set of USB MIDI In/Out ports on your Windows or Mac computer. However, these devices utilize different types of commands and, therefore, will not respond to MIDI control data. As with POD X3 Live, the Pro includes 5-pin MIDI In/Out jacks that can be used strictly for receiving MIDI Program Change messages (For scrolling through User Presets) and for sending MIDI CC data when using the onboard pedal for Volume, Wah, and Tweak parameters. Q: How do I swap Tone 1 and Tone 2 in a Dual Tone patch on the X3 series? A: Press the HOME button down for 2 seconds and the Commands menu will come up. Make sure SWAP TONE 1/TONE 2 is highlighted and press the SAVEknob twice to execute and confirm. Q: How do I restore the X3 to it’s the Factory Presets? A: Press and hold the ‘Home/Hold For Commands’ button, select ‘Reset User Presets’ and press the ‘Save’ knob to reset the User bank to its factory presets. Q: Can I connect the POD X3 Live/Pro's XLR outputs to a mic input on a mixer with phantom power? A: Yes, the phantom power gets routed to the ground on the X3 Live/Pro. Q: How do I boot the X3 in Safe Mode? A: Hold down 'RIGHT' on the directional pad on the X3 as you power on the unit to put it into SAFE MODE. Q: How do I calibrate the Expression pedal on the POD X3 Live? A: 1. Go to test mode by holding down 'Right' on the directional pad when you power up. 2. Highlight Pedal Cal. 3. Press the INPUTS button. 4. Set the pedal to the heel position. 5. Press the A footswitch to get data on pwm duty cycles. 6. Set the pedal to the toe position. 7. Press the B footswitch to get data on pwm duty cycles. 8. Press the C footswitch for automatic selection of the best duty cycle. 9. Move the pedal to get smooth 0-255 Scaled Values. 10. Press the D footswitch to save the settings.

Q: Can I reset the POD X3 series units directly from the unit? A: Yes. Hold the "home" button for two seconds, then highlight "reset user presets" navigating with the 4-way arrow key. Press save, then hold the save button for five seconds and release. Be aware that this will replace ALL user presets back to factory settings, so please back up your custom presets using Gearbox or Monkey if you want to save them for future use. Q: How do I reflash my POD X3 unit? A: Download and install the latest version of Line 6 Monkey from the following link: www.line6.com/software Run the Line 6 Monkey program and log into Line 6 Monkey using your Line 6 user name and password. If this is the first time you have run Line 6 Monkey, you will not have driver software installed. Highlight the "Driver" item in the Updates window, and click the Update button on the right. Monkey will lead you through the installation process, which requires you to quit Monkey and possibly restart your machine. See the following link for more information on driver installation: USB Driver Installation Make sure your POD X3 unit is powered on and connected to your computer via a USB 2.0 connection. Monkey should automatically recognize your POD X3 and complete the startup sequence. See the following link for USB troubleshooting tips if Line 6 Monkey does not recognize your POD X3 unit. USB Audio Troubleshooting On the Updates tab, look to see if your Flash Memory is up to date. If it is out of date, you will see a yellow "yield" sign next to flash memory. If you need to update (or just want to reset the unit back to factory state for troubleshooting) select "Flash Memory" (it will highlight in blue) and click the "Update Selection/Reinstall Latest" button to the right. Monkey will lead you through the process. Monkey will give you an option to continue: Monkey will then ask if you want to keep your presets. If you do not want to keep the presets (or have already backed up your presets), select "no". Monkey will now update your unit after you select "yes". Be sure to close all other applications and heed the warnings. You will see the progress bar writing the flash to your unit Restart your POD X3 unit by powering the unit off, then back on. When the update is complete you will receive this message. ***NOTE: If a Variax guitar is connected to the POD HD500 via VDI connection during the flash memory update for the POD, DO NOT DISCONNECT the Variax guitar from the POD until the update process is completed: Q: How do I update the firmware on my POD X3 series unit? A:On the Updates tab, look to see if your USB Firmware is up to date. If you need to update, highlight "Device Firmware" and click the "Update" button to the right. Monkey will lead you through the firmware update process as shown above. Q: How do I reflash in "safe mode"? A: Safe mode can be used when a unit cannot be reflashed using the normal reflash procedure. Hold the four-way arrow key to the right while powering the POD X3 unit on to start your unit in safe mode. You can then reflash the unit as decribed above.

On POD X3L, physical expression pedal positions, when assigned to a TWEAK parameter, will not be stored upon saving the patch. However, the position or value of the effect parameters in Edit Mode (UI) that the TWEAK Pedal is assigned to, will be stored upon save. This means that when you recall a patch with your expression pedal in the heel position, assuming the expression pedal is set to control a tweak parameter (IE: delay mix), the patch will recall the value you saved the tweak at (IE:Delay Mix 80%) and not the PHYSICAL PEDAL POSITION of the expression pedal (IE: Heel position or NO DELAY MIX) This behavior is similar to the way the POD XTL and Vetta works.

So you got the perfect sound... Now you want to save your own patch... Press 'SAVE' to bring you to the "SAVE TO:' screen. The bottom 4 knobs are critical to this process as they change the values that are directly positioned above. The first knob alternates between saving in Tone 1 and Tone 2, the third knob moves the cursor left and right, and the fourth knob changes the character that the cursor is positioned under. Use these knobs to select whether you want to save the patch to Tone 1 or Tone 2 and to change the name of the patch itself. Once you have set the name and tone position, use the save knob to choose which bank you want to save this to, then press the save knob again to save it.

Q: Can I upgrade my XT device to an X3? A: Here is the list of model packs included on the X3, model packs that are included on XT devices are listed after the model pack: Power Pack(included on the Pod XT series) FX Junkie (included on the Pod XT Live) Collector Classic Metal Shop Bass Expansion (included on the Bass Pod XT) Please note that the FX Junkie, Collector Classic, and Metal Shop model packs can be purchased as a Triple Pack for a savings of ~$50. Q: How can I upgrade the hardware on my XT series unit? A: The other differences such as the effects loop, XLR input, etc. are hardware improvements that cannot be upgraded. Q: Does Line 6 offer a trade-in program for my XT unit for an X3 unit? A: We recommend seeing your local Line 6 dealer regarding the possibility of trading your XT unit for an X3 if you are interested in obtaining an X3 at a lower price. Q: When will Gearbox and the Gearbox plug-in be available for the Pod X3 series? A: We released a compatible version of Gearbox on February 29th, 2008. Q: Is the POD X3 series compatible with Riffworks? A: Yes, you must download and install Riffworks Line 6 Edition version 2.22 or better from the downloads page.

The POD X3 offers a fun feature that allows you to create patches on Tone 1 and Tone 2 and blend them together or sweep from one patch to another using the expression pedal on the Live. For any musician seeking seamless patch switching, this is the feature for you! Setting up this function is simple: 1) Set the volume on patch 1 at 100% heel, 0% toe (Page 5.16 of the user manual.) 2) Set the volume on patch 2 to the exact opposite, 100% toe, 0% heel. 3) Now rock the pedal back and forth. The pedal will now blend from 100% Patch 1 to 100% Patch 2 and anywhere in between.

The POD X3/X3 Live does not offer phantom power which is needed when using any condenser type microphones for recording. You can purchase phantom power boxes from several online music dealers. Some boxes start as low as $30.00. For more information on phantom power and how it works, please see the link below. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_power If using phantom power with your microphone, do not connect your microphone to the X3's Mic input. The X3 is not equipped to handle external phantom power. If you do not own a condenser type microphone and your POD is still not putting out any levels there are a couple things you can check. 1)Press the Inputs button on your POD and make sure the input for your tone is set to "Mic". 2)Check the Trim knob near the XLR input on the back of your POD and make sure that is turned up. At this point if you are still not hearing any signal output then your POD have a hardware problem and will need to be repaired. You can locate a Service Center near you on our website and arrange a repair for your POD.
