  1. Hi! I have been reading this forum for a long time now and now it's my first post. So a big hello to everybody and thanks for the great infos I found so far. From all the great comments I saw, I decided to buy a DT-50 head with the 412 cab. It's been 2 months now and I can't get the good sounds you seem to have. It's my first tube amp, so I don't really know what to expect. But the real problem I have, is with topology I. The volume is alot lower than the other topologies. I upgraded the firmware and no changes. I submit a ticket and they told me it's normal. But I can't understand why the sound is so loud on all the other topologies and not on the first. There is no way I can stand just in front of the cab with the volume at 12oclock in topo II, III and IV. But in topo I, I can put the channel and master volume all the way up and it's not breaking my ears. And the things that bother me the most is the volume is louder with the master volume pulled out..... With volume knob pushed in, there is almost no change in volume level from 5 to 10... And it's only in topo I. In the other topologies, if I am in full 50watt operation I can wake up everyone on the street :) I opened the back to check if the lamps where all seated. I removed and reput the in place. I saw the left EL-34 looking different than the right. The filament is not protruding on the top, I don't know if it's ok. And it's seems to get burn marks inside the tube. Is it normal? I used the amp for no more than 6-8 hours since I bought it new. During operation, the right lamp (looking from the back) emit a blue haze but not the left. This blue haze get brighter with more input from the guitar. Check the video on youtube http://youtu.be/nbBcwm_9eb8 I put another video too where you can see and what I am talking about if I was not clear. It's start in topo I with knod pulled out. Check the volume is almost the same with knob pushed in, but only in this topo... http://youtu.be/CWQOmBJhECY Anyway, I would appreciate if you can tell me if the amp is not operating like it should. In that case, I would submit another ticket. In the left tube the heater filament is a lot shorter It's difficult to see, but the glow seems to be better in the right tube Is this normal "burnt" marks? This amp was on not more than 8 hours in total. The left tube is weird looking, no? Could it be only a bad tube that is causing my problem? Or the tube got bad because of an amp trouble?
  2. Using a JTV59, Variax Std, HD500x and a DT-50 212. Having a great time getting familiar with my dream rig. One part of the learning curve that I haven't found much information about is how the cab sims work with the DT-50. I have began by using the D6 Link/preamp factory patches that come with the HD500x. While looking at the preamps I see that the cab and mic simulator options are on. So it looks like preamp patches are minus only the power amp simulator, which I see from a couple of posts, is recommended when using the DT-50. My question is whether it is a good idea to turn off the cab and mic simulators since I am using the natural cab sound of the DT-50? If the cab/mic sim is simply another option to use with the DT-50, then how does this affect the direct out line of the DT-50 that I plan to use for playing live? With a cab/mic sim in use, does the direct line out take into account the the sound of the DT-50 itself that is a part of what I am hearing standing in front of the amp? I realize that I could spend the time to record the DT-50 line out and compare it with what I am hearing in front of the amp, but I thought perhaps there is already a few of you that have gone down this path and have reached some conclusions that could save me a lot of trial and error. Thanks!
  3. I have a DT-50 212 and POD HD500X. For me, the best sound is to connect the guitar directly to the amp! That's it: Pure Analog Tube sound! And the DT-50 sounds great. Having said that: 1) I like the fact that only two cables are needed for them to be connected: guitar input jack and XLR for L6Link. Great. BUT once the guitar is connected to the POD, the signal is digitallized, right? It might be 24bit 48kHz, but you're losing tone (harmonics at least) for a start. Even in tunning mode? 2) What I need now is to have the DT-50 to make all the sounds. I mean, NO EMULATIONS/SIMULATIONS of any amp clean or distorted by the POD. How can I do that? So, the POD HD500X would simply be a controller of the DT-50, switching channels, from a clean to a crunch, from one voicing to another, from a rhythm sound to a solo and higher volume sound, etc. 3) After accomplish (2), then use the POD HD500X to add just simple effects as needed. Like a delay for a solo, or a wah, etc. If I can't make the (2) then I will sell the POD HD500X and buy some (analog) pedals. Thanks in advance.
  4. Anybody have a good slide guitar setting for a DT-50 and a HD500?
  5. I've read that the pre-amps in HD500 are the best to use with DT50 and DT25, so I've put a setlist together with all of the pres as a baseline for my patch creation. The problem I encountered was that the volumes varied WILDLY and I kept blowing up my ears going from the quietest amp (Hiway-100 apparently) and a Treadplate for example. Of course one amp is louder than the other, but for home use, or testing, having these patches be leveled is a must So I've gone through and leveled out (with the MIXER setting) all 30 of the pre amps to be very roughly the same loudness. There is definitely some variance. If anyone cares to correct them more properly, please do so and post the update. In this setlist, Hiway-100 is the quietest amp- I have the db setting on the mixer maxed, so I used that setting as the baseline for loudness of all the other amps. Very unscientific, but now I don't get ringing ears if I'm switching between. Hope this helps. DT25 30 pre-Amps-leveled.zip
