  1. I have a Stomp XL and the Mission Engineering SP1-L6H expression pedal (the one with the toe switch). I currently can assign two blocks to be controlled separately by the pedal, switching between them with the toe switch (Volume or Gain for example). I would like the Volume control to be Global and use the toe switch to switch the pedal to control a block in the preset (Gain for example). Currently I must add and assign one of the 8 blocks in each preset to Volume and then add and assign the second block. I want that block back! Is there a way to assign Volume globally, so it works on every preset without using a block? I would then use the toe switch to select the second block in the current preset to control with the pedal. I hope that makes sense. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks!
  2. Bottom line, my expression pedal on my Helix Floor unit came loose after I'd bought it 2nd hand and had it for only a few weeks! Tightening via the bolt on the side using an allen key only holds it until the pedal is used again and if I tighten any more it'll break parts, it already squeaks when I tighten it enough to hold briefly. After some digging, it seems replacing the washers on the pedal assembly might fix the issue. Looks straight forward. However, I'm getting so little help getting a part. I've been told I can send the unit for repair which will cost £60 + postage just for a diagnosis plus whatever repair/parts costs. There is a kit for sale but I can't buy it anywhere here in the UK and after a couple of emails to Full Compass, I was eventually told they are not allowed to ship to the UK and I'd have to find it locally...which doesn't exist. The kit is $5 (https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/607336-line-6-97-001-0016-washer-kit-for-helix). I'm not about to spend what ...£100+ to have some washers changed which I can do myself very easily. To add insult, these parts, in the UK, have a lead time of 3-4 months so I'd have to send my unit off for 4 months?!?!? I'm a full time musician, I need this to work! I've just spent £1000 to buy the thing. I was directed to Sontec for parts in the UK but again, lead times are 3-4 months and would cost £22 HOWEVER there is a "minimum" order amount that would have to be paid (exact amount was not given) so who the hell knows how much it'd actually cost, not to mention they came back with the parts list I gave them and said in very confusing fashion that some parts numbers are "superseded to the same parts number, sorry I'm not allowed to give these out" which is not only confusing as I don't know what "superseded to the same parts number" means but massively unhelpful to not be able to have the actual part numbers. They also, apparently, aren't able to get certain parts which I may or may not even need. Basically I just need the washer kit as per the link above. Am I really going to get no help from Line 6 here?! This is incredibly distressing, I can't afford to throw away money on repairs that should cost so little and I CERTAINLY can't afford to go out and buy another unit! Any help from anyone here would be massively appreciated as Line 6/Full Compass/Sontec are of very little use unfortunately. PLEASE HELP. Anyone in the US maybe that could order the kit and send it to me, I'd pay full cost plus a little extra. Also attached a pic of the pedal assembly and parts numbers if anyone would like to see.
  3. Saw an ad for the Ampero Press Passive Volume / Expression Pedal. Has anyone tested this with hx stomp's expression 1/2 input? Wondering if it works well and as-well as Mission?
  4. Hi together, I wonder how to maintain expression pedal state Exp1/Exp2 and FS5 state of SP1-L6H between Presets. I set in Globals / Footswtiches ToggleExp to FS5 Therefore when Exp1 is active and I press toe Exp2 will be adressed back and forth. Each time I press toe a FS5 will also be sent. I use it with the HxStomp to use the toe to switch adevice on and the other off together at the same time with the neat functionality that the pedal changes EXP1->EXP2 I can control 2 continous parameters together nicely .... until I switch presets then my problem starts! let me explain! For instance: Preset A: Volume Positon mapped to Exp1 Wah Positon mapped to Exp2 Bypass Assign both FS 5 Initially Wah is bypassed Preset B (Same as A): Volume Positon mapped to Exp1 Wah Positon mapped to Exp2 Bypass Assign both FS 5 Bypass Assign FS 5 Initially Wah is bypassed 1) On Preset A I press Toe and Volume is bypassed, wah goes on - Wah position is controlled by Exp2 2) I change preset to B 3) PROBLEM: The system recalls that Exp2 is active but on Preset B is Wah Bypassed and the Volume Pedal is Waiting for Exp1 4) If I press Toe I turn off Volume in Favor of WahWah but I also switch from Exp 2 back to Exp 1.. deadlock!! Now I have to manually turn off the Wah and turn on the Volumen Pedel and than I can use the smart switching between Exp1 and Exp 2 again but only as long as I stay in the preset. If I got to next preset the described problem persist. I can not imagine that this is expected behavior. I need something like a reset of the Exp1/Exp2 switch state If I enter a preset or maybe you have an Idea how to do ? Help much appreciated!
  5. Hi, I bought Helix lt in April 2018, since then I was very satisfied with this unit. Since almost 2 months, the Helix onboard expression pedal is behaving very random, being this the second or third time it happens to me: The expression pedal stops working for no reason. The switch toggle from exp 1/exp 2 works fine, I've tried switching presets, snapshots, switching from exp 1/2 , deleting Volume block and adding it again, new preset with volume block, etc. Im thinking also in a factory reset, cause this is very annoying. The worst part is that it happens while gigging, from one part of a song to another, the pedal stops working. I don't want to lose confidence on this unit but it's giving me a hard time. If I'm using it for swelling, well , it is a FAIL if the unit's expression pedal behaves randomly. I have external expression pedals, but using one doesn't fix my issue. The first time it happened to me, it lasted like 1 hour or so, this time I don't know. I just switched it off cause I was tired . I started to look on google hoping to know what was happening, but I think it only happens to me, since there's no other cases like mine in forums, at least. While digging I found out this thing has an optical sensor, but nothing else. Maybe that's the trouble, the damn sensor. Can you help me with this? Thanks
  6. Hi all, New HX Effects user here. I've been using a Bespeco 18L Exp Pedal with my LIne 6 M5 with no problems and just assumed it would work with the HX Effects. Hooked it up last night to try it and can't seem to get it to work. First question is, can anyone confirm compatibility with the Bespeco 18L? - it's a 20k pot I believe If so, what am I doing wrong?! If not, what are the alternatives - can't seem to find a list of compatible pedals for the HX Effects. Many thanks
  7. Hey guys, I just got an EV30 expression pedal today to use with my hx stomp. I find however that the parameters only start increasing in value after about 1/4 of the full sweep on the EV-30. Similarly, the parameters reach 100 with about 1/4 of the sweep remaining. I am using the stock TRS-TRS cable that comes with the ev30. Any suggestions?
  8. I've done a fair bit of research about converting an old Wah to an expression pedal, including this great post: I'm hoping to do this for my HX Stomp, but just want to make sure I have a viable plan. I'm hoping to convert my Dunlop Crybaby to act in the same way as the new Mission Helix SP1-L6H REVISION B, which only requires a single TRS cable, rather than the Y-Cable splitter which the Revision A used. I believe I have all the parts I'll need (Dunlop 10K Wah Pot, 3PDT Switch, 10K Resistor, 1/4" STEREO jack), I'm just wondering if anyone has the know-how for how exactly I would wire it all up to make the HX Stomp happy. I believe the SP1-L6H REV. B uses a circuit board, and although I've etched a circuit board or two in the past, I'd prefer to keep this project as simple as possible without requiring a circuit board. I assume the setup would be pretty close to what Verne-Bunsen outlines for the Helix, but I don't quite understand how to wire the single TRS jack instead of the two TS jacks.
  9. Hi! I'm about to purchase HX Effects for my new rig and would like to use external pedal for wah wah and volume but I would like to have it in one pedal just like on Helix LT or Floor (POD GO also I guess). Do you know of any cheaper equivalent for the Mission Engineering SP1-L6H? I know that the pedal has to have a toe switch and a WS out (whatever that is... ;) ) Thanks in advance!
  10. Hey all! When my Helix expression pedal is physically past the 50% mark, it won't stay there and just falls all the way down to 100% (full volume). The physical pedal just slides when past the half way mark, no resistance, it won't stay in one spot. Is there an easy adjustment to fix this issue?
  11. I've been experimenting with using MIDI expression pedals on synths I'm triggering with my guitar and have a MIDI foot controller into the MIDI IN of the Helix. I have the expression pedal set to CC1 which is Modulation Wheel and I can see (using MIDI Monitor on my Mac) that is sending just that (using Helix's MIDI Thru) and it is properly moving the mod wheel on a soft synth. Great. The problem is it is ALSO controlling any Helix patches with a Volume Pedal so when I pedal down the mod wheel (to its origin) it also turns the volume pedal all the way down on the patch. I tried moving it to another block but it still is affected. If I turn it off I can see the ghosted version going up and down but it doesn't affect the volume. Anyone aware of this issue? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
  12. So I have a problem setting up this dual setup with a exp pedal AND a momentary footswitch. Do anyone have any experience with this? I've tried with a Rockboard Y split cable, and a mission engineering exp pedal built for line6 pedals. Maybe i need to get another exp pedal, or cable?... Let me know!
  13. Curious to know how other people use MIDI for volume control on their Helix and what block and parameter you're sending CC values to. I know answers will differ based on the how you're using your volume pedal in the chain. Right now I have my HX stomp set up to take CC messages on the Level parameter in the final Output block but I'm thinking of moving the volume control to earlier in the chain and controlling the Level parameter in my Cab block so it comes before all synth and time based effects. How are other people doing this?
  14. Afternoon all I want to use an expression pedal connected to my Morningstar MC8 to control overall patch/preset volume of my HX Stomp via MIDI. I know I could assign the expression pedal to a volume block but I'd like to know what parameter in the amp block you guys (and gals) would assign it to if you had used up all the Stomp blocks ; channel volume or master volume? Obviously the pros of the volume block are I could put it anywhere in the chain but assigning it to an amp parameter frees up that block for something else Thanks Ben
  15. I would like to get from a clean sound to a nice bluesy solo sound by expression pedal, not by snapshot. If I only turn up the drive, the sound gets too loud. So I would have to build in a volume reduction at the same time. I have no idea how to do that. Can anyone help?
  16. Hi peeps! Today I notice that the expression pedal was not aligned properly, and was actually scraping the left side of the gap in the metal. The whole pedal was slightly off kilter off center. I took the included hex key and loosened the bolt a little. Then I moved the pedal with my foot. Nothing helped. Until I pressed the pedal in (as in to switch between Exp 1 and Exp 2) and it re-aligned itself. I then tightened the bolt and it seems to be back to normal. So did I break it or is this normal? I barely use this particular Helix, only when I play gigs. thanks!
  17. So I've been using guitar/amp modellers for nearly 20 years now - right back to the Roland VG-8 in 1998. In all that time I've been through many, many different expression pedals. All of them have their quirks, but they usually get the job done after a bit of set up. When I got my Helix Rack & Control last year, I decided to treat it to some new expression pedals, so I bought 2 FV-500Ls and an FV-500H. I wanted something rugged for realtime control of both the Helix and Ableton Live. I had nothing but problems from the start, though. I understand the idea behind the 'dead zones' on the FVs, but they were a bit much for me - a waste of range (even with spacers fitted). I had a spare EV-5, too, but it was the opposite - I couldn't reliably get to 100% as there seemed to be no spare range at the toe down position. I put up with it for volume but, due to the size/weight of the FVs and the range of the EV, I decided to sell them and look for something else. I'm a bit short on cash at the moment, so I decided to take a chance on the M Audio EX-P and bought 2 for £14 each. I couldn't be more impressed! The EX-P was 99% plug and play, with only the polarity needing switched in the global settings and flicking the EX-P's switch to 'Other'. The range is fantastic! It's got exactly the right amount of tolerance at either end to make auto-engage a joy to use, and pitch effects work brilliantly with no fear of missing 100%. They're smooth, and the taper seems good. OK, the EX-P isn't going to win any prizes for sturdiness, but at roughly 1/6th the price of a new FV-500 (and about a 10th of a Mission pedal!), it's quite easy to justify having a couple of brand new spares. I've now got 4 - 3 for the Helix and 1 spare (which may get used for my BOSS GP-10). One big issue I had with the FV/EVs (which I thought was a fault of the Helix) was that the values in Pedal Edit Mode would jump and 'flutter' as soon as I entered. The EX is rock solid. I don't need to worry about anything happening when entering PEM until I actually move the pedal itself. This has finally opened up the true usefulness of Pedal Edit Mode to me; a feature I was really looking forward to when I first read about the Helix. If you don't use PEM, give it a try! It's a HUGE time saver. I've spent a bit of time today tweaking sounds as a I play, and it's made tone-shaping far, far quicker. I was able to 'dial' out a lot of fizz and smooth things out on a patch that was otherwise proving a bit too fiddly. I know it's kind of obvious as that's what PEM is all about, but I think it's a feature that's often overlooked. I'm looking forward to using PEM when I'm out gigging next as I think I'll now be able to quickly tweak my tones at full volume while we soundcheck. If anyone's looking to try the EX-P, make sure you get the current version. I did have one years ago, but it needed a mod (to add a resistor) before it worked properly with 3rd party gear. The latest one has a convenient switch. I've successfully tested it with my GP-10, Katana 100, and a Behringer Motör keyboard.
  18. Hi everyone, I do have a Line6 Helix Floor, not LT, and I noticed that my expression pedal gets loose after using it for some swells. I have to tighten the screw at the side again and again which is kinda annoying. Does anyone have a solution for this or experience with it? Thanks in advance!
  19. I am trying to use my M9 almost exclusively as a looping pedal and have run into an issue. I want to record loops and use my expression pedal as a volume control to control the loop volume. I have assigned the expression pedal to the FX slot where I have a volume control and it does work, however, since the M9 is at the end of my chain, the expression volume controls the ENTIRE SIGNAL I want to be able to just control the loop volume with the pedal and be able to play over the loop at any volume. I can't figure it out. Pre / Post doesn't seem to make any difference. Any thoughts? There is not a ton of info about using the M9 as a looper, I have been searching. thank you!
  20. Hello. I've got a HX Stomp with a Mission Engineering EP1-L6 that I mainly use as Wah. When I record something I tend to want to save the raw guitar sound for reamping later. Is it possible to have the pedal transmitting midi CC when I use the wah so I can record the MIDI data in Logic Pro X? Is so I could then elect to edit the data, even change wah type when I reamp later. Thanks
  21. My apologies if this has been answered before, I searched but could not find it. Is this normal? On my HX Stomp, I have an expression pedal set up to control the master volume on my amp model. This works fine with the pedal plugged in, no issues. BUT, when there is no pedal plugged in the value of the Master defaults to 0.0. I had expected that the patch would revert to the original saved volume. So, if I forget my expression pedal, or the cable goes bad, any patch I have set up this way has no output. I understand the logic if this is normal, it's just not what I expected - the only other unit I've used with an expression pedal is the Zoom G3. If it is normal, I'll set up duplicate patches in case I forget the pedal or it fails. This is not a big deal, but I don't want to do it and later find out I didn't have to. Thanks is advance for any help!
  22. I'm building a synth-like patch, with the built-in Helix expression pedal controlling the high-cut (low-pass) frequency of the Low and High Cut block. With the pedal min at 1kHz and max at 11kHz, there's not enough fine control at the low end. If I drop the max range of the pedal, I won't have enough highs with the pedal fully down. If there's an option for a logarithmic sweep like in the Volume block, that will solve the problem. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to do that. Care to help? And yes, I've tried using the Wah blocks, but all of them have a very pronounced resonance peak at the cut-off frequency of which there's no control to cut out. Side problem: Is there a low-pass filter block that goes lower than 1kHz?
  23. When I connect my Boss volume pedal to my HX Stomp, it seems to mess with the signal. When connecting the 'Exp' to the Stomp, the parameters are reversed. This is no problem since I can re-reverse them in HX edit. However, the sweep only goes down from about 40% to a 100% sweep. Connecting the mono out makes a sweeps from 14% to a 100%. And when connecting the stereo outputs through a TRS cable, the sweep starts at 7% till 100%. Also the sweep drops from 100% quickly to 5% and then gets back up to around 7%. From reading online and these blogs, I couldn't directly find a solution. Anyone else experienced something similair with their volume / exp pedals? Is there any workaround besides buying a different exp pedal?
  24. I am running the most recent firmware on my HX Effects. For an expression pedal, I am using a Thru-Tone EXT-Ult, built into an Ernie Ball volume pedal with a kick switch on the side. The wah is turned on by using the kick switch on the side, and then controlled with the treadle itself. So the switch is just an on/off switch connected to the HXFX exp pedal 2 jack with a small patch cable. Recently, on about 20 different occasions (during performances and practice at home), I was nowhere near my pedalboard and the wah just switched on. To turn it off, I have to engage the switch and then disengage it. Trying the patch at home, I was looking at the computer editor and watched the wah engage by itself. I've swapped out patch cables. And before the most recent firmware, this has always worked for over a year and 100s of performances. What could be causing the wah to switch on? I didn't change anything in the patch in the new firmware- it is the same one I always use. Obviously the HXFX thinks the on/off for the wah was engaged, but it most certainly wasn't as the pedalboard was across the stage at the time. I spent the last few shows glued to my board, ready to turn off the wah (good thing, too, as it happened a few times). When I am not using the wah, I use the exp pedal for delay time and feedback, otherwise I'd just program the wah to come on when I reach 5% or something. I might just ditch the wah in my presets if it isn't something I can fix. I can't say for certain it is the firmware, but that is when all of this started happening. Anything else I can try? Priest? Holy water?
  25. Hello everyone I am the owner of a Helix LT that I use in 4CM mode with my amp head. I use the single EXT output to change the channel of my head. When I change the channel via the helix, the light changes between EXP 1 and EXP2, so I had to assign two volume pedals at the beginning of the signal (one for each channel of the head). But when I change snapshot (and head channel), pedal 2 goes to 0%. I put a video that shows the problem. It seems that this is only present on the LT since the original Helix has a dedicated output for the channel change. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Thanks a lot to all. IMG_3112.mp4
