  1. Hi. I am using my HX effects unit to switch channels and FX loop on my Marshall DSL20 head. It has a TRS cable foot switch. The tip switches the channel and the ring switches the FX loop. I’ve successfully got it to do all the switching, however I’ve found the amp is expecting the reverse of the signal from the HX effects. Meaning that when the ring is NOT shorted to the sleeve, the FX loop is on, and when the tip is NOT shorted to the sleeve the ultra gain channel is on. This means the lights and logic on the HX effects are doing the reverse of what you’d expect based on the amp. Is there any way to reverse the logic of the ext amp outputs so that when I activate the switch the TRS cable is “un-shorted”, or alternatively to have an LED change colour instead of dimming when a switch is bypassed. Currently I’ve got it set up as snapshots to avoid the problem, but that’s a bit of a pain because I need 4 switches instead of 2 to cover all the combinations.
  2. Really loving the HX Stomp so far. I'm looking to use the footswitches to control switches inside Ableton, and would like to setup bilateral communication. Does anyone know if the HX Stomp can receive midi so that the footswitches will light up if say a track mute is engaged/disengaged in the program? On the Ableton side of things I would likely be setting this up using control surfaces or max for live but at the moment it looks like I can't just send midi notes to the HX Stomp and expect anything to happen. Control Centre doesn't seem to have midi input, which makes sense since this is a fairly niche use case.
  3. Hi Is there any way to trigger a snapshot from the external footswitches? Thanks.
  4. Hi, this is a little DIY project I built: It's a small Arduino based two button MIDI foot switch for the Helix HX Stomp. It is more flexible and more powerful than the "normal" foot switches connected via TRS cable and as a bonus you can still use an expression pedal hooked up to your HX Stomp. The MIDI Muppet HX can scroll through presets (normal mode) scroll through snapshots (snapshot mode) act as FS4/FS5 (fs mode) bring up the tuner (in any mode) To cycle through modes, press and hold the right (up) switch. To toggle the tuner, press and hold the left (dn) switch. If this is something you are interested in building please check out more information at https://github.com/mattzzw/midi_muppet_hx_2btn Other ideas are integrating tap tempo, looper control, ... Feedback and ideas are welcome! Cheers, /Matthias
  5. Summary: try some lubricating contact cleaner before you replace the switches. I've just had a good experience fixing non-functional footswitch buttons on my Pod HD 500X. There are plenty of posts and even Youtube videos about this, but I have a couple of additional tips that might help someone. My FS1 and Bank Up footswitch buttons had gradually stopped stopped working. The design of these units is that the metal footswitch you press has a spring-loaded plunger that in turn activates a microswitch on the Pod circuit board. There are two long, horizontal printed circuit boards that carry the two rows of footswitches. You can see them here: https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/280562-line-6-50-02-0234-top-and-bottom-switch-pcb-assembly-for-hd500x It seems that the microswitches tend to stop working over time on these Pods and on other products across the L6 portfolio as they are commonly used behind footswitches. My Pod is out of warranty, so I was considering desoldering the individual microswitches and replacing them (possible and cheap but fiddly), or purchasing a replacement PCB (easier replacement but more expensive). Before I did that I tried using a lubricating contact cleaner and was pleasantly surprised that it has brought the buttons back to life. It was a cheap and easy fix. Please, if you try this, take electrical safety precautions and protect the device from electrostatic discharge from yourself. If you don't know what those things mean then don't open the Pod. Method 1 - tried and successful Start with the Pod facing downwards on your bench, so you are looking at the back of the device and can see the case screws with their ringed rubber feet. I opened up the Pod with the 8 case screws. I then removed the 12 small screws fixing the PCB carrying the affected micro switches to the metal switches. I carefully rotated the PCB so the microswitches were visible and applied a small amount of the contact cleaner (using the applicator straw) to the affected switches. Refixed everything. Tested and working. Method 2 - not tried but I think would be successful and easier As above but don't bother removing the PCB. Simply use the applicator straw on your contact cleaner spray and squirt "upwards" onto the microswitch. Give the switch a few pumps to work it in and get the Pod back the right way up quickly so gravity can help you. Method 3 - not tried and not sure it if would work but probably worth a go and would be the easiest Don't even open the Pod. Using the applicator straw, dribble contact cleaner down the shaft of the metal switch, where it would eventually reach the microswitch. Risk here is that you end up using excessive amounts, but probably a good option if you feel uncomfortable opening up the Pod and can't have Line 6 do the job for you. The switch cleaning lubricant I used was Servisol Super 10. There are others. Don't use a contact cleaner that does not contain a lubricant unless you want to be doing it again soon. Hope this helps save some Pods, DM
  6. I'm making the transition from the Boss GT-100 to the HD 500. One of the things I LOVED about the GT was its ability to switch patches and THEN toggle the individual effects on and off inside your new patch. Switch patch and then go into stompbox mode. Having trouble figuring out how to do that on the HD. From what I understand you have to be in ABCD mode to toggle between patches and 5-8 mode to toggle FX on and off. Is there a way to switch modes on the fly like on the Boss unit - change patch and then go into stompbox mode?
  7. Hey guys! I am looking to buy a Line 6 Spyder amp, but do not know what footswitch to buy along with it. Could someone send me a link for the correct footswitch for the 60 watt one?
  8. I have a Helix floor, I would love to be able to have a separate footswitch control changing snapshots within a preset. Is this possible?
  9. Hi I need a big external footswitch for my stomp for live use as a boost (bit of amp gain). I'd really like one with a light to indicate is on or not so would have to be a latched switch. Apparently according to this https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index.php?threads/line-6-hx-stomp-add-on-footswitches.2049510/ A latched one will work fine. You just have to set the settings as 'unlatched' So is there any reason why this won't work: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bespeco-VM22-Latching-Control-Pedal/dp/B00IF0JIFA/ Basically a cheap copy of the Boss FS-5L I know stomp won't know the status of the light on the footswitch but surely if I set it as same state when I start a session (usually off) it'll stay in sync with the stomp as I turn the boost on and off Thanks :)
  10. A "what if" question for Line 6 and other Firehawk users: I am happy with Firehawk FX, but I wish one thing was different - I switch effects on and off more frequently than I change patches. Stepping over the patch change buttons to hit delay or overdrive on/off, I frequently miss and hit the patch change buttons below them. Would it be an easy software/firmware fix to give us the option to "flip" the functions of the 2 footswitch rows? Since everything is digital, it would seem feasible, but I was just curious to see if anyone else would be interested in that option...
  11. I'm on my helix, trying to find a way to turn on a harmony only while pressing the footswitch so that i don't have to dubble click it. Is this possible? I'm actually thinking alot of effekts would be fun to use just quickly and the timing would be alot easier if the effekt only would be on while pressing the footswitch.
  12. Hello, I am new to Helix and have learned a ton the past 2 months reading all the wisdom on this forum. Thank you! I would like to have a Footswitch assigned to modify 2 parameters on an Amp Block. In this case I wish to INCREASE the Drive parameter and DECREASE the Channel Volume to create a CRUNCH-like footswitch while maintaining consistent volume levels. In working with assigning multiple parameters to a footswitch, it seems that it can only toggle ALL the parameters to the Max value at one time then ALL of them back to the MIN value at one time; not one to Max while the other to Min. I understand that this may be easily doable with Snapshots, however I am still figuring out how that might fit into my live gigs based on the diversity of situations I am in given I have grown up used to stomp boxes. I will get there for sure as I know they are powerful. For now, I appreciate understanding if what I would like to do is possible with footswitches in stomp mode.
  13. Does anyone else have the issue of glitchy unreliable footswitches on the Helix? I've had two units The first had 4 unreliable foot switches after a month of use at home.. And after 6 months or so the joystick failed totally so the store got me a new unit. That one now has 2 unreliable footswitches... problably more to come. I'm really taking good care of the unit, so I'm left to think there is a general quality issue with these footswitches. However Line6 Support tells me otherwise: Hi there, sorry for the trouble with your Helix. The defective switch needs to be replaced by our service center. Therefore please contact your Line 6 reseller from where you've purchased the unit - or alternatively you have the option to contact our Danish service center directly: Highend Skjulhöjalle 57 Vanløse, 2720 +4538711114 info@highendmusik.dk We haven't received many requests regarding footswitch failures and the repair should solve the issue. Nonetheless I will pass along this information to the product teams, so they can look into it. Best regards xxxxx Technical Support Line 6 Support Europe And I don't really want to pay for repairs of a lollipop quality component, in an otherwise nice product.. Am I really one of few having this issue?
  14. Hi, I'm pretty new to music hardware. I got an e guitar and I want to record on my MacBook in GarageBoard. I'm interested in buying the Pod HD 500, because it has an audio interface and pedal controls, but I don't know if I can use those to toggle effects on the virtual pedal board in GarageBand itself. I know the Pod HD 500 offers own effects, but I would prefer to use software effects to bypass any limitations like limited RAM on the device itself and I'm not interested in live performances anyways. I know that the foot switches can send MIDI signals and I found some indication that this should be possible in the manual, but I seek confirmation by any experts before I buy it. It would be very helpful to get fairly simple explanation how this can be done. Thank you so much!
  15. There seems to be a bug with assigning multiple control parameters to a footswitch. Setup: Assign a footswitch to toggle between 2 settings in a delay block: (A) Low feedback + low mix (B) High feedback + high mix In Global Settings > Preferences, snapshot edits set to "Recall". Problem: Helix gets "confused" about the ON and OFF states of the footswitch. This typically happens when changing snapshots. Description: 1) Select Snapshot 1. Press footswitch > ON. Parameters set correctly to (B), footswitch lights up. 2) Switch to Snapshot 2. Press footswitch > ON as well. No issues so far. 3) Switch back to Snapshot 1. Sometimes this bug occurs: press footswitch again > it goes from ON to OFF, but parameters jump from state (B) > (A) > (B). Parameter states are (B) but footswitch light shows OFF, meaning states are reversed. 4) Switch back to Snapshot 2. Footswitch functions normally, with ON corresponding to state (B). 5) Switch back to Snapshot 1. Footswitch behavior still reversed (ON = state (A)) This setup was working fine before the update. It started after updating to 2.80. I've tried this on a new preset, same problem happens occasionally. But not always. Sometimes restarting the unit fixes it for awhile. Can anyone verify?
  16. Please advise I have been trying all day to get my chorus to stitch on and off via the switch. Everything else works (distortion, overdrive and delay) it's just the chorus. its the analogue chorus and its third in the chain after my amp. Thoughts would be great thanks :)
  17. Hi, I just bought Peak FCB4N2 to use with my HX Stomp. I thought that I would be able to assign pedals to Peak's footswitches but I still can't find a way to do it. Right now I can only change presets. I've tried the learning function in bypass assign but it still doesn't registered to the FS. Is it Possible at all since Peak labeled it as midi switching product? I'm quite new to MIDI control stuff. Please excuse my english, it's not my native language.
  18. Hi, wondered if anyone had any suggestions. So I'm using the HX effects for bass into a Darkglass Vintage Microtubes 500 amp. The amp has an intelligent footswitch for going between clean, vintage microtubes circuit, B3K circuit, and mute (4 buttons). When trying to use an effects loop on the HX effects through the loop send/return on the amp, it is bypassing the footswitch somehow, so I can't change between the onboard distortions or mute the amp. This doesn't happen with 2 cable method (no loop) and didn't happen using individual effects in the loop... any ideas?
  19. I know I can set up different Variax tunings for different snapshots within a preset on my Helix Floor. However, I'm already using 4 snapshots within my main preset to give me different amp/fx/drive etc. (typical Clean, Edge of Breakup, Crunch and Lead snapshots). I am in Stomp/Snap mode, giving me 4 footswitches on the top row and my 4 snapshots on the bottom row. What I REALLY want to do is use three of the footswitches to switch between 3 different Variax tunings independently of whatever snapshot I have selected - i.e. I want to be able to use each of the tunings on any of my 4 snapshots. Is this possible?
  20. Hi Folks, Just got a HX Stomp. Great pedal! One seemingly silly question I have is: will a 3 or 4 button midi amp footswitch work with the HX Stomp? (Like a Peavey or Randall 4 or 5 switch for amps) for turning fx on and off? Or would I be better off with a Midi Mongoose. I don't want to spend any more than $125 if possible. Whats an inexpensive way to add foot switches. -Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere. Just joined. Thanks!
  21. Here are the controls for Spider IV amps (75,120,150, HD150) when using the FBV 3 foot controller. FS1: Boost on/off FS2: FX1 (Gain, Auto, Pitch) FS3: FX2 (Chorus, Phaser, Tremolo) FS4: FX3 (Delay, Tape Echo, Sweep Echo) FS5: Reverb on/off Function: turns on looper mode. Tap button: will start and stop the recording, overdubs, playback within looper mode. NOTE: FBV3 will not work as a computer editing interface for Spider IV amps. FBV Express MKII and FBV Shortboard MKII pedals will work for editing. When using the FBV3 with your Spider IV, make sure you have the latest flash memory (v1.02) installed for your FBV controller. You'll find the Line 6 Updater located here: http://line6.com/software/ Download and install Line 6 Updater, then connect your controller to your Mac or PC with a standard USB cable. Line 6 Updater will ask you to login, and then run the latest update for the controller.
  22. Hello All, I am in a quandary. I have four snapshots set on the top line and also have some foot switches at the bottom. I ONLY want to erase the four footswitches at the bottom not the actual effect because I want to use the four slots below the Snapshots to control Ableton for live performance. I know how to assign MIDI controls so I am good there. I also DO NOT want to erase the effect just where it is on the scribble strip. When I hit more it goes into full stomp mode that I will put the effects. Any help on how to do this would be greatly appreciated.
  23. Hi guys, I don't know what is it that I'm doing but I don't seem to be able assign the FS3 to an effect (reverb in this case) I can select the effect in the FS selector of the patch but it doesn't change from tuner/tap to the actual selected effect in the actual foot witch. Is there something I need to do in the main settings to activate/deactivate this and get rid of the default FS3 setting? thanks in advance
  24. I've gone ahead and opened up a ticket for a failing footswitch on by brand new Helix. Anyone else experience anything similar? Any solutions? My heart is broken!

    HELIX and EXT Amp Controlling

Helix's ability to control external amp channel and/or reverb switching has been tested with many popular amps and heads. Unfortunately this does not guarantee compatibility with all products. Note that, depending on the circuitry of the channel switching jack in the guitar amp used, the EXT Amp function may not operate as expected.
