  1. Hello. I own a HD500 for a few days now. I think the models and everything are great, but I'm really having problems with the volume. For example I want to use the AC30 model, but even when I max the Channel Volume ( CH VOL ) and the Drive I can't get enough volume to work with. I even maxed the level to +12db in the mixer and still can't get a decent amount of volume ( the volume is there, but considering max. CH Vol, max. Drive, max. boost in the mixer, it's definitely not acceptable ). I could of course use compression or distortion in front of the amp, but I can't see that as a solution, since I maxed everything and still not getting a good volume and comp. or dist. also affect the sound ( of course ). I searched quite a bit and this guy here seems to have the same problem: http://line6.com/supportarchivenew/thread/63490 I have my HD500 connected via USB, which is also how I record. I made pictures of the settings and also recorded my guitar ( one with just the AC30 model and the other one with added compression ). I think the compressed one sounds fine, but I'm not satisfied with having to always use a compression for the cleaner amp models ( some models give a nice amount of volume, especially the more dirty ones ). Also the output mode is set to studio/line, but also tried other options in the software and also on the HD500 itself ( the switches ). Can you guys try my settings and upload your playing? What could be the problem? My guitar pickups should give enough output ( EMG DG-20 active pickups with fully loaded battery ). Kind regards, John clean.mp3 clean_comp.mp3
  2. Hello everyone! This is the new thread dedicated to bass presets for Pod HD series. The original thread was located in the community "Long forgotten bass players", but I think it will be better here. I hope that this thread will become a place to share experiences, knowledge, and above all, our presets for bass! To start the discussion, here's my Bass Setlist for HD500 with 20 patches: HD500 Setlist V3 - "High Output Bass Amps" (16-Jan-2013) http://www.mediafire.com/?h4yta8468nawfzt How to convert Setlists: If you have a different Pod HD, you can use this tool: http://www.jzab.de/content/pod-hd All this presets are set on a "single arm chain": What you get with this Setlist is a high volume of output using a Bass, forget the messes that involved the dual input configuration, and make the pod HD works in a very similar way to how the Bass Pod worked (regarding to mono wet and dry outputs). But here you have the advantage of being able to play your bass in true stereo, too. Now you can have a balanced sound between the bass and guitar, and record comfortably in your sequencer. I left the presets configured as inputs Guitar:Same, but please, I do not want to contribute to this confusion. Using this new configuration (let's call it "single arm chain"), the input 2 has absolutely no effect on the sound (when using the config 1 mentioned below) If you want to record two mono tracks (wet and dry, panned all the way L/R), then it makes sense to use the second input as "same" (when using the config 2 mentioned below). Unmuting the Channel 2 you actually obtain a completely dry signal from your instrument. Of course you can also use a combination of both if you want to use another instrument on channel 2. But most important is to understand that in this way we have two inputs completely separated from each other without causing strange effects in the other, or interfere in any way. As I said before, for me this has been a great discovery. Thank you very much to Meambobbo. This is the structure for v3 patches: 1- Noise Gate. I'm currently using noise gates, until I learn how to use the hard gates. I'm a little slow! More details here: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/ampTone#noiseGates 2- Tube comp. Almost same settings than before. 3- Classic Distortion. Still here, for now. You could also use a wah pedal or whatever else here, if you prefer. 4- Analog Chorus. I removed the ugly delay in front of the amp, and now I have a chorus. I like this effect for bass, and I think this is the best sounding of the three possible. The Dimension and Triple chorus does not sound bad, but have far fewer parameters and are therefore less controllable. In contrast, analog chorus has many controls, a vibrato mode, a tone control, etc. For now I used a basic setting, but it sounds pretty good with the reverb. 5- Studio EQ. Still here, for now. I'm not using it much now, because I have found that it can be a specific setting for each bass you use. Maybe try a parametric EQ, but it seems much more complicated for me: http://foobazaar.com/podhd/toneGuide/eq 6- Mid Focus EQ. Hi and Low pass filters, now with settings 5%-65%. Gain between 0-30% 7- Spring Reverb. I used a reverb that is noticeable, but not annoying. Sounds great alongside the chorus. At least I like to use them together to have a good time. Note that when using chorus+reverb, overall volume will also rise up! I have had this in mind, so that the volume is not excessive when active. Still, if you play too hard, this could produce clip, so look first at gain settings I put into the Mid EQ. 8- FX loop. I´m using a Boss RC-300 loopstation here. About the Inputs and Mixer settings using the config above (single arm chain): Config 1: Just to play (Stereo) Input 1 - Guitar Input 2 - (Doesn´t matter, since PathB is muted.). Mixer - PathA +12 dB center, PathB Muted (panned 100%R just for convenience when using config2) Config 2: Recording (2 mono channels, Left Wet (processed), Right Dry (unprocessed, or DI) Input 2 - Guitar Input 2 - Same Mixer- PathA +12dB 100% Left, PathB +12dB 100% Right So you can: Record a stereo track selecting the stereo input, and then split the track on two separate mono tracks on your DAW. OR, arm two mono tracks on your secuencer selecting each separate mono input, and record both at the same time. Personally I like best the second approach, becouse I´m using Logic Pro, maybe in your secuencer there is an easier or practical way to do the first one.
  3. Is the power supply for the HD500X the same as the HD500? I guess my real question is can I use my spare HD500 power supply with an HD500X if needed?
  4. Greetings, I'm sure this has been answered so I apologize in advance for the repeat - I've searched several threads for an answer and haven't been able to find a definitive one. My question is can you alter the tunings of the JTV guitars on the fly using the Footswitches of the HD500? For example - within one song can I hit open g, standard, open em just by hitting a switch and NOT doing anything on the JTV? Thank you so much - I'm getting ready to purchase but this is a key feature that I thought was possible...based on what I found, I THINK it was not originally possible, but perhaps a software upgrade enabled that ability. Thanks much, Brian
  5. The display of my POD HD 500 is stuck with "UPDATE FLASH" on screen, and nothing more. I've tried to reinstall Flash Memory, I've reinstalled Line 6 monkey, all Drivers and etc, and nothing works. I even tried do Reset (or whatever) by pressing the LEFT button (or any other button) while powering it on, but nothing happens. Just the screen with the "UPDATE FLASH" message, even if it is not plugged into the computer. If someone knows what to do to make it work again, please tell me.
  6. Hi, My HD500 has developed a state where it jumps to the System & IO menu randomly and although everything works processing wise it can be impossible to edit patches or jump to different patch banks as the System screen flicks back. The odd thing is that it doesnt do it all the time and lots of changes to footswitches or the menu can get it back to normal. I was wondering if this was a common issue and if it was worth investigating to get it fixed? All answers gratefully received. Jon
  7. Hi, My HD500 got boot loop today when i connect wrong plug with the power. I search google and forum for advice but nothing help. I do the unplug and press "down" button and then it show update Flash. But i already update the latest flash firmware from 2 week ago. Line6 Monkey wont recognize it. Everytime i try to install drive from line6 Monkey, it download and then fail to lauch install. I delete monkey and reinstall,it work but when i open the monkey again, then it keep show the triangle error beside the drive and the error still happen. I cant boot into global reset. I can boot in test and safe mode by pressing down the right nav and plug in power. But it show the P beside the Flash firmware. What should i do now to save my HD500. PLZ help..Im so desperate!!!
  8. I had the strangest thing happening to me today. I went to my band rehearsal and after playing for about 30 minutes the display screen kept jumping from the signal chain to the knob display as if I was a adjust a knob on the HD500X. I'm connected to my DT25 via the L6 link and my JTV via the VDI cable. I had previously been using this set up with my HD500 for at least a year and had no issue. I even used this same setup and cords 3 weeks ago without issue. If I disconnect the L6 link it's fine (of course I have no sound though.) When I the screen changes it actually shows that he Mid has been turned all the way up. I can move it back and then when the screen flashes it has moved back to 99%. This happens across the board on the patches. I even swapped out cords and same thing. Now the venue makes me a a custom snake that has my power supply extened, 1/4" and L6 cable loomed to together as one cord. I'm 99% sure it's a regular XLR they used. But I've gotten by for 2 years with it and one show with the HD500X. I have an AES/EBU cable somewhere so I'm going to try that and hope it works. If anyone has had anything simlar and has fixed it with some sort of hard boot or firmware upgrade/reload please let me know. I have 3 gigs this weekend and I need to come up with a plan B if swapping the cord for AES/EBU doesn't solve it. I practiced all day today with just the HD hooked up to my PC so I definitely know it has something to do with the Link. And yes I tried numerous times of turning both the amp and pod off and on again. Thank you, Dave
  9. So I've been using Reaper forever with various versions and up until today, I've had no problems. Now I load a project I was working on yesterday and when I try to select the POD HD500 driver in the dropdown it says "No ASIO Drivers Found!" and shows no I/O selection options. I already uninstalled/removed from registry/reinstalled Line 6 Drivers via Monkey and direct download I have uninstalled all other ASIO device drivers (TASCAM US-1800, AudioBox 2x2) Tried installing ASIO4All---still doesn't show up Uninstalled/reinstalled Reaper (tried with old versions and the newest) Still get the "No ASIO Drivers Found!" message Anyone have any other ideas? I'm not really looking forward to reinstalling my whole OS and all my plugins to get Reaper to work. I can use Cubase LE, WaveLab, or Studio One Artist with the drivers no problem (including ASIO4ALL).
  10. Hello! Got a problem with the looper. The recorded loop sounds much quiter than it has been played. The Playback is turned to maximum, Lo cut/Hi cut are turned to minimum.
  11. I don't want to waffle, so here is what I know: In ABCD mode, bank 1 is controlled via MIDI PC 00-03, bank 2 is 04-07, etc. Bias Head channels are controlled with PC signals 00-24 (user-defined, 1 per preset), supposedly on channel 1 When I switch between rhythm, clean, lead, and breakdown patches in my POD, I want there to be a corresponding amp change in my Bias head. Is this possible? I don't mind using the FS switch above the ABCD switch to change the amp separately, but ideally, I want them on the same switch. Is this possible?
  12. Pod HD300/HD400 Factory Reset: Hold down the A footswitch while powering the unit on. Press the PRESETS knob, then press it again. Video Tutorial No Global Settings reset Pod HD/HD500/HD500x/HD Pro/HD ProX Global Settings Reset: Run Line 6 Monkey with the HD500X connected via USB. Highlight FLASH MEMORY and click REINSTALL LATEST (or INSTALL LATEST if Monkey shows that you are running older firmware). Make sure to back up all of your presets and setlists beforehand using the HD Edit software. Factory Reset: You must reinstall the firmware, when Monkey prompts you if you want to keep your existing presets, hit no. Video Tutorial Safe/Pedal Calibration Mode: Hold down the right arrow on the navigation button while powering the unit.
  13. My goodness, my adding a HD500 to become a basic audio interface to a mac (High Sierra) was a challenge. I am adding this as a public service in hopes of saving people time. I installed Line 6 Monkey and almost smoothly adding all the drivers etc, but when it came to the flash update, it wasted a lot of time. I alternated using the downloaded file to downloading it fresh, to unplugging the HD500 to restarting the mac to nav R power on to nav down power on etc etc.Reading, trying, reading, trying.... It kept saying the new flash was installed on the Monkey, then it just stopped. The SOLUTION was to roll back to the 2nd last recent Flash version. I have a Helix too and have gone through most POD products. My question to Line 6 is why leave glitchy software/ firmware in circulation. It makes me want to get a Fractal FM3. haha (I'm on the waiting list). Anyways, hope it helps someone out there save some time.
  14. I usually run my HD500 to my amp via FX Return out to the Return input on my amp head. Has worked fine for a while and now my HD500 FX Return stopped working. I get no signal at all. I can get the unit to work when I run from the Phones jack but that is a temporary fix. I've seen mention of checking the FX Loop setting. Should send and return both say 100% as well as mix? I just want to find this and fix it before I waste time finding a tech and find out it's not a jack issue but when I did an update a setting got changed.
  15. Hey everyone! Long time HD Pro user and fan here. So this unit has now been retired to a specific project I'm part of and I was wondering if it's possible to rename banks using the edit software? (Not just the individual patches/presets or the setlist, but the numbered bank that is made up of 4 patches). By default these are assigned number but the act I'm part of now is very FX heavy so it would be great to customize and dedicate a bank of 4 presets to a specific song and have that also show up on my mk2 floorboard for live shows. Anyone who can answer this will be rewarded with a crisp digital high 5 from yours truly! Thanks in advance!
  16. Hi, I am trying to recreate Marco Sfogli tone for "Nothing is lost" instrumental on HD500. Can someone please help me with this or at least a guidance what to use to go in the right direction for this? Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJztxDDQxW0 Thanks in advance whoever finds time to help
  17. Am a session musician and although I play lots of instruments I play bass most of the time, I have one of the new James Tyler variax guitars and I must say its a vast improvement and is one of my must have guitars I take it everywhere. I personally would love you to do a new version of the variax bass to have one in my arsenal would make my life a lot more easy, Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the idea and what it must have for example sounds and the desine of the bass ?
  18. Hey all. This is going to sound dumb but I would love to get some (constructive) thoughts on this... I use my POD HD500X as a pedalboard for its great reverbs, delays, overdrive, modulation, etc. through my VHT Special 6 Ultra combo for guitar and pedal steel guitar. My pedal steel does not have an onboard tone or volume control, which is pretty common for those. Many players use a compact preamp mounted to their steel guitar so they can make tweaks to volume and tone on the fly. I don't intend to use amp emulation most of the time but I may do it on occasion to go direct to the board at church or a gig. Question: what is your best method to use the HD500X as a pre-amp? Subquestion: can I use the hardware knobs to modify treble/mid/bass/presence/volume (sound) without emulating an amp or cabinet? Subqueston: can this be done without using a pedal chain slot? Currently I am using the HD500X with Studio/Direct output mode and input Z set to 3.5m or 1m to neutralize any color to the signal (many, many thanks to @hurghanico for their invaluable advice!) . But I'd like to be able to shape the tone and maybe add a little boost, ideally without using one of the available blocks in the pedal chain. May you have a very Merry Christmas, strong health and the unmistakeable peace of the presence of the Lord this season!
  19. Hey all, I know this is a common topic but I still haven't found a satisfying answer so I'm going to ask it... How can I remove the tone coloring that occurs on the HD500X when in stompbox mode and all effects (and amp models) are OFF? I can tell when I go to the tuner and use the bypass mode that with all effects off, the 500X is still affecting my tone. In tuner bypass mode, the signal to amp is dry and unaffected do the 500x *should* be capable of not coloring my signal. In regular play, with all fx off and the amp model disabled, the tone is darker and the signal is weaker. This is really frustrating because what I wanted the 500X is for it's stompbox effects not an amp modeler. I know about the 4 cable method and using the modeling for the preamp toy amp, but that will be a last resort. I just really want the effects and my amp's tone! Please help! 20. I am a relatively new POD HD500 user, just bought a used one a few weeks ago. I use it through L6Link (XLR cables) w/ my Line6 DT25 112 combo. Yesterday during testing w/ my band, something strange happened. In general I use 2 banks of presets within the user setlist#1 - 1A through 2D. Depending on the songs we played yesterday I switched between presets in the 2nd bank (2A to 2D) of this setlist which contain AC15 pre, AC30pre, BF Double pre, and BF 'Lux pre, all in combination w/ some FX's. All of a sudden I noticed that preset 2B no longer contained the AC30pre but had been overwritten by a preset called 'Middle Pups' (which sounds funny in German, BTW) w/o me having changed or saved anything! Looking at the list of presets, I saw, that 'Middle Pups' usually is on 2B of the setlist L6LINK<->DT. So, it obviously was copied from 2B of one setlist to 2B of another setlist w/o any user action. Any idea how something like this can happen? Has anyone made a similar experience? Regards from Germany Wilfried
  21. Setup my HD500 on a new Windows 10 PC today and all was good for about an hour, then all of a sudden the left speaker went out and a few seconds later the right went out. I thought I just moved the cables or something - had me thinking I ruined my new sound card too... absolutely all sound from my PC vanished - restarting and cycling through the different configurations and testing each jack solved nothing. Long story short I had HD 500 Edit open and connected the whole time and Windows decided to make "HD 500 Speakers" my default output device and refused to come off it, until I unplugged the USB cable from the HD500. I know this unit has a usb sound card built in, but it's never done this before. I like being able edit patches on my PC, while jamming to tracks on my PC, with the analog outputs plugged into my PC, and all audio coming from the PC speakers. thoughts?
  22. I got a HD500 and i want to have a Cali diamond treadplate, or triple rectifier but i dont see ir in the metal packs or hd packs, what should i buy to have it on my pedalboard hd500!???
  23. I recently changed computers, and needed to install all the Line 6 software on my new computer. Monkey installed fine, but Edit and workbench will not load. I’ve tried installing multiple times, and it looks like its loading, but then the installer will not load for either program. It sends me an error message and says it will take me to a place to load manually, but the next page says no software is available. I’ve rebooted my computer several times as well. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
  24. I have a POD HD500 that i have just recently bought. I have previous experience with this pedal, but have never run into an issue like this one. I will do my best to explain this without getting anyone confused. I have 2 Computers. A custom build and a factory built Dell. The POD HD500 drivers will not properly install on my custom built PC, but install perfectly fine on the factory built Dell. The custom built computer is my primary computer and the one I am wanting to use for recording. This issue is very odd to me because i have previously had a friends HD500 connected to the custom built pc for 3 months and it worked fine. I haven't made any changes to the computer since then. I have tried installing the drivers as administrator, tried every USB port (which all work fine for any other devices). My PC recognizes the POD HD500 in the device manager, but is not recognized in Line 6 Monkey or HD500 Edit. I am at a loss and would appreciate any helpful advice.

    DL4 or HD500?

Hi guys - any that are still using these dinosaurs! :) I have two HD500 modellers, and haven't been using either of them with any regularity for quite a while now. I'm considering buying a DL4 (delay modeller), and after watching Bill Frisell showing how he still gets great use out of that piece of gear after years of going through other failing pedals, I wonder if the Pod HD500 can be set up to loop, etc in the same way that the DL4 does, to be brought in and out of play. I'm sure I could do hours of research, and still not really know what I want to know, without actually buying a DL4, to ascertain whether I actually need it or not, to do that kind of usage of time/pitch change, loop reversal kind of stuff. I love it, but wouldn't know how to go about it on the HD500. Does anybody use their HD500 in the same kind of way that Bill Frisell does here? Is it possible, or does DL4 have different capabilities?
