  1. Please post links for free Impulse Responses (IR) here. Looking for links to freeware, promotional, basically any IR that is legal to share and download including Helix user created IRs that you are willing to share. THANKS!!! Here is one to get things started: http://www.openairlib.net This is kind of an interesting site with a huge repository and has some extraordinarily different IRs available for download. There are definitely many in the mono 48khz format preferred by the Helix. The stereo ones can be used as well but you will only get the left channel per the documentation in the Helix. I suppose if you know how you could possibly also transform the IRs that are not in the proper format for the Helix. If you find an IR you like just click on the link and then select the "Impulse Response" tab. I have successfully downloaded the IRs from there. Note: Some browsers will automatically try to play .wav files; you will need to make sure you use a browser that doesn't, or change the settings so that it gives you the option to download or play. I have to admit I have yet to use them but it looks like there is some amazing potential here. These are not mic/cab IRs, they are IRs from all kinds of spaces and structures, natural and man-made, taken from locations around the globe, I imagine they could be used in lieu of a reverb or echo for instance, or perhaps even instead of a cab. Thinking some of these might also work well for acoustic guitar as well as electric. They have one from a space that is described as having the longest natural echo of an any man-made structure in the world. http://www.openairlib.net
  2. Just curious if someone found some good free impulse responses? Not that I'd be absolutely opposed to paying for some, but I'd rather start to get familiar with them and what they bring to the table, instead of just spending money where I'm not sure it'll be so fruitful. Thanks!
  3. Hello every one. Does anyone know how to find some IRs for acoustic guitar ? I didn't find anything by googling. I need some IRs in order to use in my Helix for recording acoustic guitar through cable or mic ( which I don't know which one may works better with IRs) The purpose is creating a killer sound with a not perfect acoustic guitar! ...and please advice how to use it? I mean ordering. TNX :)
  4. Is there a way to globally disable all Cab Blocks and Impulse Response Blocks to use a Helix Floor with real speaker cab? Sorry if I missed it but I've read the manual and searched the forum.
  5. Hey everyone, I recently got a pod HD500X and after sitting with it for quite some time I was wondering if I can improve tones by loading custom IR's into the unit. I have been searching for information but not sure I have found the answer. Is it possible to load custom IR's (as is the case with the mooer radar for example) or would the use of custom IR's only be possible with a dedicated unit such as the radar or 2 notes torpedo after the pod HD500X (from what I have gathered this seems to be the case but not 100% sure)? Thanks in advance!
  6. Hi Guys. Ive had a UX1 since pod farm 1.0 maybe 13 years ago at a guess. I recently tried to start using plugins in reaper with IRs and also standalone Amp sims like Cali Suite by Neural DSP using my UX1 as the interface. But I've run into some crazy electrical noise I've never had before on both of these am sims with IRs loaders builtnit. I normal using podfarm for scratch tracks. I've tried the usual changing cables etc. But I cant figure out where its coming from so I am wondering if is possibly the UX1 itself. Also Is it possible for these super old interfaces to run IR based sounds? Just wondering as if not its about time I bought an upgrade. Asside from my PC components (PC is a pc specialist build) im not sure what else it could be so I am hoping y'all have some ideas? I can supply samples if needed. Much appreciated!
  7. If loading a third-party IR (impulse response) into HX Edit or POD Go Edit results in an out of memory condition, it is likely the source file is too large or contains too many samples. Open a DAW (digital audio workstation) e.g. Cubase, Logic, Reaper, Ableton, etc., or other capable audio recording/editing software, such as Audacity, and import the IR file into a new session/project. Trim the IR so that it is no more than 2,048 samples in length. Most DAWs have a ruler that you can set to beats, minutes/seconds, or samples. Set it to 'samples' in order to make the most accurate time selection. After the file has been trimmed, you're ready to export/bounce the new IR file. Use the item render/export in your DAW and follow these guidelines to ensure compatibility: 24-bit / 48k Mono (1 channel) Must be WAV file format

    Stereo IR

Good morning everyone. I am new to IR's and downloaded the G12 Celestion pack last night. Everything seems fairly straight forward. However I am running stereo out of the HX stomp. So here is my question.... When I place the IR block at the end of my block chain what do I need to do to specify stereo out of the IR? Or do I need to run 2 IR blocks in parallel and pan then right and left?
  9. I've been loving the HX Stomp for the past month or so, but there is one limiting factor that I can't seem to find a workaround for. What I would like to do is sum several EQ blocks into a single Impulse Response in order to save DSP power (like was done in this video). However, unlike in the full Helix, the USB in/out selection options in HX Edit seem to not be nearly as flexible on the Stomp. This means that when I try to use deconvolution software to make the IR (I'm using the Impulse Response Utility through MainStage), it won't let me because I can only chose USB 5/6 on the input (which are the re-amping slots that bypass the Stomp's effects) and the only output option is the 1/4 line outs on the back of the Helix. Therefore, when I do the audio sweep to make the IR, it doesn't work because the sweep doesn't input through the helix effects and won't come out through USB (unless I'm doing it wrong...). Does anybody have any ideas on how to get around this? Here are some links that have gotten me close to an answer, but I'm out of my league here when it comes to understanding how to get what I'm after... Thanks for your help in advance, this is my first time posting here! -How to use the Stomp as an audio interface -How to make an impulse response on a mac -Converting SDIR files to WAV -Relevant forum discussion
  10. Does the IR block go directly after the amp+cab block. I have external drives > input of hx stomp>amp+cab block. Then I split signal to effects loop. Out of send> external verbs and delays> back to stereo return > IR block> stereo Something isn’t sounding right with my drives...almost like in a tin can...i can’t eq my way out of it...I see all these videos of nice tones but I can’t get it...I can’t get a nice bite on my drives it’s flat and smooth..no attack to my notes Any suggestions on why?...something in my signal path?
  11. Where does the IR block go?...right after the amp+cab block.? Also where does the effects loop block go. I run analog drives into the hx stomp. I use the effects loop for externaL modulation. My drives don’t sound to great. I don’t know if my signal chain is messed. I can’t seem to eq my way out of tin can over drives Any help or suggestions would be great
  12. Im new to the hx fx and could really use some recommendations and help regarding impulse responses. I run my guitar through a bbe sonic maximizer and then through a vox Ac50 ( with upgaded tubes, and V30’s :) ) I run the hx fx in 4cm. My band rehearses D.I. Into the mixer ( drummer plays a roland TD30, so its really nice) but its still important for me to use the AC50 as the tone is incredible and regardless of the fact we all use “ in ears” live and in rehearsal im using a moderate amount of amp volume on stage and blending it with my D.I. Signal into the P.A./monitors. Thats why i was really excited to use impulse responses. Heres where i can use some help/recommendations and opinions. 1. Ive played around with placing the IR block before and after the Fx loop 1 block. so far I prefer it placed after, but i cant really tell much of a difference. Anyone have any info or experience with this? what is your preference? 2. I downloaded a bunch of IRs . I have some “speaker” ones (the allure pack) and those all seem pretty useable. One of the best results ive had so far is the V30 IR (from allure) I have the mix set to 100 and the volume somewhere around -6.5 -8.0 db I also find it totally necessary to use the low cut feature as the bass frequencies easily start to overdrive. Changing IR,s the confusion/frustration/doubt starts to set in. Heres some examples- Acoustic guitar resonace ir’s i have , including this hollowbody ir i have sound absolutely funky. Maybe they are crappy idk but its led me to believe that IR’s work best emulating something similar to your sound. I mean i run v30s out of my cab. So running a V30 IR after my effects loop block seems to make my D.I. Signal sound alot more like my amp and that is a wonderful result. but trying to make it sound like a jazz box, or a hummingbird acoustic, is experimental and probably wont yield good results. However, i did load a gods cab (its like a 6505 with a mesa cab and a sm7b mic) it needed a ton of low cut. And it really overdrove my signal easily. But at -8.0 db lvl with 100mix and a low cut, when i added a distortion, i got a killer sound. I mean awesome metal tone. some feedback or personal experience on this would be a godsend. 3. So to some it up into some more direct questions. whats with the overdriving? are some of these ir,s supposed to be distorted? where as some are just clean cabinet/mic “simulations” (or moments in time whatever you wanna call it) -8db seems awful low for a level setting should i be looking elsewhere? what kind of mix and level do you guys use? Is 2048 samples always better? Anything pertaining to using impulse responses with hx fx in 4cm especially settings would help alot. If in the end i can properly add an IR to all my presets resulting in my DI sounding more realistic and just having better tone altogether i would be very happy. just dont know if im doing it right.
  13. Hi all, Sorry for the question as i'm sure its been asked. So apologies. Long time L6 user first time Helix user..rack version, love it. Impulse Responses...my question: If I use an impulse response block, I assume I don't add it to a patch with a Amp & Cab block in use, or a patch which has separate Amp and Cab block...just use an Amp (amp on its own) block and then an impulse response block? Going into studio monitors and will go direct into house PA. Just wanted to get a handle on how to use them in a very simple basic set up ie wha>eq>Amp>IR>delay>reverb...NOT wha>eq>AMP+Cab>IR>delay>reverb. Sorry for thick question, any basic help much appreciated. # Thanks guys/gals.
  14. I’ve attached a labeled photo of my signal path. For some reason those are all the blocks that I can have on path 2. On path one it seems almost unlimited with what I can have. What can I do to rearrange this path so that I can add more blocks to my path 2?
  15. I followed the instructions in the latest Helix Edit and Helix Owners manuals about loading IRs into the IR Index on the left side of the Helix Edit screen. The Helix Edit and Helix unit are connected while experiencing the following: 1. Tried dragging the files as well as clicking on Import. I get a notice that the IRs are being imported. The names of the IRs appear in the Index, but when I create an IR Block in a preset the name of the IR does not appear in the IR Select parameter field in the bottom right screen. It says Empty, even though my Helix shows the name. I can move up and down with the toggle arrows in Helix Edit and see the IRs change on the Helix, but Helix Edit screen still says Empty. 2. Now the odd thing is that in the IR Index, you can right click on the IR name and get a menu that includes Import, Copy, Clear, etc. But the only item in the menu that is not ghosted is Import. I cannot clear, copy or paste any IRs in the Index. 3. When I close Helix Edit and re-open it all the IRs I loaded are gone. Why aren't they being saved in the Index? There are no menu items in Helix Edit for saving anything other than a preset. As of 7/14/18 my Helix and Helix Edit app versions / firmware are up to date.
  16. I'm looking for some JBL type speaker impulse responses. I'm interested in any type of JBL 110, 120 or 130 series in any cab... d120, d130, d110, k series, e series. AND any JBL similar speakers like... Beyma liberty, eminence commonwealth, weber california, weber michigan... etc etc etc! I see redwirez has some, but they only have two and I've heard redwirez are outdated by today's impulse response standards... but that was on a post from 2013- so maybe theyve updated since then? I'm new to helix, so please be easy on me. I did try searching these out- Oh and i found some dude posted an e130 IR! i'm gonna go try to use it for now. JBL's and fenders are a killer combo! duane allman used JBL's in his marshall 4x12 with his marshall head to get one of the most legendary guitar tones of all time- seems like theyd be in pretty high demand to get IR'ed! Thanks!
  17. I purchased a 3rd party IR bundle for bass (OwnHammer) Ampeg pack. It came with 335 impulse responses. The Helix only has 128 preset slots available. How can I decide which IRs to use and import? AMPG-BASS.pdf

  21. Attention all you two-voice-at-the-same-time-junkies. Here are some alternatives for you. They are derived from Mama Bear. I used Logic Pro's Impulse Response Utility, they are all 32-bit (recorded at 24 and converted) 48K (recorded that way NOT converted) 2048 (a couple are 2047 or 2046, they work the same, it's just really hard to crop exactly 2048 in that clunky program) IRs. All of them work in Helix. I tested them. Here's the thing. Mama Bear makes you not only choose the model, but the input device. I chose the setting that matched my PowerBridge, with EQ flat, captured all the IRs 100% wet (of course), and named them in a manner that should make total sense (ros means rosewood, mah means mahogany, etc. let me know if you can't figure the name of one of them or just download the Mama Bear manual). The number at the front is the number of the model in that manual. A few really cool and different ones are the Gypsy Jazz, Archtop Jazz and resonator models. Very surprising. What surprises me even more is that even though they were made with the "wrong" input selected for a "real" acoustic guitar, they seem to work great in that way! I tried some with my Crowdster and they worked really well. More subtle, I think, than the Fishman Aura ones floating around, and you may like those Fishman ones better (for certain things I think I still do). I will make a sample video when I can, and will probably capture another set with the under-saddle input circuitry selected to see if it works better with acoustic guitars. I attached a zip file if you want as well. same files as the link above. 2 things. 1. Let me know what you think and if they are useful and 2. post a ridiculously overstated compliment right here if you download them. Something like "Peter Hamm is the most amazing human that has ever lived and I want to be like him when I grow up", you know... something like that to make me feel good about myself. Here's the link again. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B5YMP7cdVF-LTWE5TkFrb0ZTUGc?resourcekey=0-aHwTzPqpm6djoyONpGhDNw&usp=sharing
  22. Hi everyone, Just ordered a Helix Rack from Sweetwater that will be here in a few days, and I can't wait to fire that thing up! I've read that the stock IRs are not so great and people have suggested added their own custom IRs they've bought from third-parties. I've heard a demo of some ML Sound Labs IRs that Fractal Audio sells through their store. If I wanted to buy an IR pack from ML Sound Labs (through Fractal Audio), would I be able to use them with my Helix? I have 0 experience with IRs, but I've read that they're mostly like .wav files but couldn't confirm from their site. Thanks
  23. So I'm considering a Helix rack as my main guitar setup and the only thing that I really want to know is how good are the amp models and IR's really? I've seen plenty of youtube reviews and testimonies online about how good the uni is as an 'fx' only box, but I'd love to use it as an amp sim while using my own pedals. I'd obviously be happy to use some of the inbuilt effects when I need them, but how do the amps hold up on their own is what I need to know. Just to note as well, I mainly play clean or light crunch so I'm not hugely bothered about the Mesa or Soldano sims being 'fizzy' or whatever. Thanks in advance for the help!
  24. Whats up guys, i'm new to the Helix and IR's in general. I am curious what the difference between the 2048 Sample Rate, and the 1024 Sample Rate. I am also curious about the difference between 44.1, 48. and 96 when downloading IR's. Does a higher sample rate give you a higher definition sound? And is there a difference in sound from a 44.1 IR download as apposed to a 96? ALSO. I'm getting a lot of buzz and feedback running a 4 cable method into my 5150. Any ideas? I use a Furman Power Conditioner so i would imagine its not ground noise. It's only when i'm running an IN/OUT FX loop into my EVH head. Thanks dudes!
  25. New to Helix, and the forum. I'm trying to import demo IR's from Ownhammer and RedWire. I just upgraded to firmware 2.20. I get a "Malformed URI" when I try to import in the editor. This happens with both companies' demos, and whether I select a group of files, or a single file. Same when I try to drag the files from file explorer. I'm running Windows 7. Any ideas on what might be causing this? I haven't imported IR's before, but it looks pretty straightforward to me, and I did read the instructions. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Steve
