  1. So many users of the line 6 spider iv amps have had issues with the tones going thin or tinny, or muffled and low volume etc. I have a line 6 spider iv 120 and had the same thing start with mine. Well mine was what I call a cascading issue that led me to find what this issue is probably in almost all of your problems too. Seems the main board or brain has a few components used in circuit boards called voltage regulators. basically is drops the voltage down to what it needs to be and then the extra basically causes heat or is the by product which is correct and normal. the regulators have little metal tabs connected as a heat radiator to get rid of heat.......well the one regulator , which is one right beside the plug from the amp supply is the one that gets a little to hot and has a built in kind of thermal safety and kicks out or doesnt run like it should and that is when the sounds get weird, cut out, reset amp, etc. mine caused one of the solder joints on its 3 connections that was weak to start to crack and then when it got warmer it really kicked in to awful mode. so the solution? it is simple and cheap like 47 cents..... they make a heat radiator or fin that attaches to it with a clip, screw, or a thermal glue that is nothing more than an aluminum piece with fingers that is about size of my thumb and now not one issue ever!!!! you can get them on ebay, amazon, etc. there are 2 voltage regulators that are side by side on board and have metal tab, 3 legs connected to board. easy to just attach them and heat issue is gone!! hope this helps someone.
  2. I've been thrilled with my POD HD500x since buying it back in February. I use it mostly to record, with full amp models in all their glory, but I also use the 4CM with my Marshall amp, and if I don't want to lug the Marshall to practice I'll go direct into the PA with the amp models. I've noticed that sometimes the POD sounds like someone has thrown a towel over the speaker. Out of nowhere it just loses all clarity. It has happened both going direct into the PA and with the 4CM. Sometimes I switch patches and the clarity is back, other times I have to reboot the POD and it's all ok, and still other times I have to do both of those things multiple times until the problem corrects itself. Has anyone else had this problem? At first I only noticed it when I was using the 4CM, but now it is happening when I'm going into the PA also. Any ideas what it could be? I have updated to the new firmware, but I think this happened before that. I honestly can't remember how long ago I updated, but I'm 99% sure I had this problem back in early March.
  3. Has anyone experienced this issue? I have a HD500X patch using one Bomber Uber preamp with no cab and a few effects. Sometimes, after playing for a few minutes, the sound from my DT amps get extremely muffled and extremely quiet only when using this specific patch. The following behavior seems odd: If I switch to a different patch that uses a different amp model, the rig sounds 100% normal. Then... when I switch back to the "problem" patch it also sounds 100% normal... for a while until the problem happens again IF the problem happens again. The problem sometimes appears, sometimes not, it's not consistent. My setup: Variax or regular guitar - HD500X - L6 link - DT25 combo #1 - L6 link - DT25 combo #2, both amps running in low volume mode. If I plug directly into either combo amp and disregard the HD500X entirely, the amps work A-OK and sound great. Just curious if anyone else has stumbled across this, perhaps on other amp (or preamp) models? I don't have my rig nearby right now, but the one thing I remember changing in the patch that might affect the DT25's was that I selected Topology IV instead of the Uber's default Topology III. I don't think that should matter, just thought that info might help. Thanks!
