Hi all. I picked up a Variax 600 from ebay a few days ago, and have just had a chance to sit down and see what it can do. I like what I've heard so far, but I have also noticed a few problems that I hope you good people can help with. Firstly, the D string is at a much lower volume than the others. It appears to be a constant low volume, not an intermittent drop out, and almost sounds muted/thin compared to the other strings. String volumes in Workbench all show as set to max. Any ideas? I've done a bit of searching the forums, and am thinking I should try taking the string off and cleaning under the saddle, would a q-tip and isopropyl alcohol be suitable for this? Secondly, the model selector knob appears to be extremely wobbly. If I move it laterally from side to side there's a good 2-3mm play measured each side of the top of the knob. I'm not sure if it's related, but when I try using it to select models, there are some banks that don't get selected (the selection either stays where it is, or skips a model to the next one). I've checked this while connected to Workbench, and I'm unable to use the model select knob to select Lester, R-billy, and Semi. I am able to select acoustic about half of the time, by carefully and slowly coming at it from one side or another, and can select the remaining models all of the time. I'd appreciate any advice on this! Thanks in advance, Tim
