Unfortunately, the design engineers decided to dual purpose an output without understanding the consequences. The PHONES/DIRECT OUT provides a stereo signal to the tip and the ring of a 1/4 Jack when inserted into the connector on the back panel. This is fine for listening with headphones but absolutely WORTHLESS when connecting to any mixing console input. Almost all mixer inputs accept BALANCED audio signals and when you send a STEREO signal to such an input you will only hear the audio that is not common to either channel. Mostly it will be a really crappy, low level signal that is impossible to use to anything. The easy fix is to lift one of the conductors on the cable (tip or ring) and leave it unconnected to anything. A more complex fix is to combine the leaft and right channels to make a mono signal and put it on the tip of a cable sent to the mixer and leave the ring unconnected. WHY? Because BALANCED audio format is one of the coolest tricks around. A balanced output has the guitar (audio) signal AND the inverse of the guitar (audio) signal both on the one cable. Signal on the tip (or pin 2 in XLR) and inverse of the signal on the ring (pin 3 of the XLR) . When these signals are sent to a BALANCED INPUT, the signals are SUBTRACTED from each other to produce a signal with twice the gain. This is all done to eliminate the noise which will be a positive signal on both conductors. Say the signal is 2 volts and the noise is .5 volts. You get 2 - (-2) = 4 for the signal and .5 -.5 = 0 for the noise. brilliant stuff because it is so simple. So when you plug your DIRECT OUT into a balanced input (almost all mixers have balanced inputs) you get LEFT SIGNAL - RIGHT SIGNAL = almost all the good stuff gone! I was shocked that a great company like LINE6 would pass this off and even tell you tpo use the DIRECT OUT to record. Really a remedial design issue that should have been caught before they made the amps. peace

If I record a signal from my helix rig straight into my DAW (no mics) and I want the benefit of the speaker cone modulations in the Powercab, do I have to take the signal from the XLR out on the Powercab or do I get an identical signal from the XLR out on the helix itself (or S/PDIF out, only digital)? I would like to try to avoid running a cable from the Powercab to the AI unless necessary.

I am trying to record using some of the awesome Helix panning effects in Garageband.I am using Helix as the recording interface but Garageband defaults to mono. Does anyone know to get Garageband to record stereo direct from Helix? Thank you,

Hi, thanks for previous answers (by the way, it's funny how I can only create new topics through the phone, not the PC...). I have a final doubt that I've not been finding. My idea is to record some videos while I play along to some songs. So I wanted to record the playback from, say, Spotify (on the pc), alongside my guitar recording (while my phone does the video recording, separately). Is there any way I can do it? If I set my Helix LT as the PC monitor, I can hear everything and play along without a problem, but I know that only happens because my output is set to USB 1/2. I'm afraid I can't use USB 1/2 as inputs on another line to, say, output it through USB 3/4 and use that as an input to reaper because 1) I can't select USB 1/2 as inputs; and 2) that would ause the guitar and all other sounds from PC to record on loop... So, is there a way to record playback from spotify AND my guitar at the same time through Helix? I'm using Reaper. Thank you! -
Hello, I'm begineer in the world of records and I start testing my Firehawk FX how one audio interface, however, I having problems: first I connect my Firehawk FX in my nootebook with the USB entrance; adjust the volume level of record on my computer in the max and start recording in the Audacity but the volume of my records don't is good how the volume of another records that I view in YouTube. What is the problem of my records? I need buy one audio interface to solve this or exist one resource that can help me and I don't know? Grateful if you can help me!

The Spider Jam user presets are the 36 user-programmable presets (banks 1-9, A-D). The Artist/Song presets location cannot be saved, but you can modify and/or store these settings in the 36 user-programmable presets. If you would like to return your unit to the original presets, please perform a factory reset. Q: How many song and/or drum loops are included on the Spider Jam? A: There are 71 song jam loops (arranged by tempo), and 81 drum loops (also arranged in tempo) totaling 152 pre-recorded song jams. Q: I noticed that some of the Artist/Song Presets from the Spider III are not present on the Spider Jam? A: Yes, some of the Artist/Song Presets from the original Spider III release were not included in the Spider Jam release, due to space restrictions (please compare the two lists for clarification). Q: Are there any video tutorials I can view to learn how to use the Spider Jam? A: Q: Are the song guitar presets (i.e. 70s sounds) accompanied by backing tracks of those songs as well? A: No, all of the backing tracks on the Spider Jam are original compositions written and performed specifically for the Spider Jam playback. If you want to play along with the actual songsyou have a couple options. You can connect your CD or MP3 player into the jack to play along with tone song, or you can convert the song to a 44.1/16 bit mono wav file and install the song on your unit using the SD Card. Q: How can I change the tempo of the pre-recorded patterns, and will it change the pitch? A:In the original version of the Spider Jam (Version 1.04), the tempo of the pre-recorded patterns could be changed by using the Tempo / Pitch control wheel, which also changed the pitch of the patterns in ½ step increments. I'm trying to record my guitar (guitar in) and my bassist(aux in) simultaneously and sending the output to spdif panned left and right. During our songs I switch to different patches. I'm not using snapshots. I think I have the separate paths for each instrument sorted out however here's my question. For the bass, do I need a separate path in each of the patches that I switch to during the song or is there a way, for example, to have some global setting to have aux in always go to spdif left regardless of what patch that I switch to? Otherwise I sounds like I have to set a path for the bass in each of my patches. Also, is there going to be a slight pause in the bass when I switch patches. Thanks in advance

Hi. First of all, sorry for possible bad english. I am about to buy helix along with some kind of speakers. I know that there are tons of topis related to speakers to use with helix but most of them are old and dont answer my specific doubt (actually most dont aproach dialing tones with recording in mind). My band have a pair of JBL EON615. I guess they might be good to dial tones to use live(most places i play already have a PA system with floor monitors) but i am not sure if tones to use live will translate well to record. For recording purposes i guess studio monitors with speakers of 5'',6'',7'' or 8'' are better suited.. am i right? if so, Could you give me some recommendations of something around $400? And the other way around would work well? i mean... tones dialed to record could be used live with good fidelity? It seens way to much effort in having to dial each patch twice. One for live use and other for recording. Finally..... Am i just thinking to much? i could just dial tones in the JBL and then record with them and the results would be good? According to this Video, I should be able to record the DI output of the Spider V into my iPhone recorder app simply by being connected to the amp via USB. However, when I do so, the recorder records the mic input on my phone and not the amp output... I can blow on the phone and record that for example. I have the Spider App installed and successfully connect, so that’s working. Is there some setting somewhere that I need to use to switch the recorder app to use the USB input instead? Im using the latest iOS, on iPhone X.

Hi guys, I have the Firehawk FX, and I also have Scarlett 2i2 Audio Interface which I normally use to record my vocal with a condenser mic. Now a shop nearby has Sennheiser mic 50% discount. As I'm looking forward to recording my electric guitar in the future, and I heard that dynamic mic suits the job, this is a good chance to buy one. The problem is I'm not sure if I should or need it. Which way, in your opinion, is the better way to record the electric guitar between ... Guitar --> Firehawk (with amp simulation) --> Audio Interface (Scarlett 2i2) --> PC VS Guitar --> Firehawk (for effects) --> Amp (a small tube amp, Vox AC4C1-BL) --> Mic --> Audio Interface (Scarlett 2i2) --> PC Thanks a lot guys. -
Hey guys, I recently bought a Pocket POD and had it shipped overseas. I'm currently deployed and figured it would be easier than having an actual amp here. I wanted to maybe record onto my laptop, but I know you can't via USB and also unless I buy a speaker to plug into, the laptop mic isn't much use. Are there any ways to record directly into my laptop without buying a soundboard and things like that? I used to work at a recording studio when I was younger, but that was years ago and we had tons of equipment. Now I'm pretty limited on both equipment and space. I'd like to have direct access from the POD to the laptop to get the raw sound from the POD instead of recording into a mic. I appreciate the help.

Currently I have PodHd500X, Steinberg UR22 (audio interface) and Garageband. For recording, should I directly use the USB from POD into the computer? Or should I plug the output of the Pod to the input of UR22? Which method will give me better recording quality? If I use the UR22, is it better to use the balanced (XLR) output of the Pod or the unbalanced output? I tried messing around with both the methods but can't seem to distinguish much in quality. Your suggestion will be highly appreciated. -
Hello. I have a little problem with my POD HD500. I notice that the sound of the preset, when I hear it on the speakers, it sounds one way, and when I record via USB sounds a little less quality. There is a small difference. Someone has been the same? Can be resolved? I have the latest drivers installed and the last firmware. Thank you very much from already.

Hi Guys, I use my M20d mixer at gigs that go from just me and an acoustic guitar (so just 2 input channels), right up to a 6-piece band that utilizes all 18 input channels. I always just use the same scene that is all our 18 channels for the main band eq'd etc the way I like it, and I just plug my 2 solo channels in to my usual gt & vox channels. But when I record even just a solo gig using 2 channels only, all 18 channels are recorded by default, as that's what that scene uses. Is there a way I can switch off the other 16 channels from being recorded? My 32gb card fills up fast when 16 silent channels get recorded too for every song! I even tried muting the 16 channels individually, which of course made no difference. I'd rather not set up multiple scenes etc just for a few different gig sizes, as often I do solo songs during the full band gigs, but I presume that's the only way? Any suggs appreciated. Hello, I've been using UX2 for several years but I can't record and use audio softwares anymore. I noticed when I run POD Farm 2 or any audio soft (Gear Box, Ableton, POD Farm...) it stops working and the clip leds start to flicker. I think it's a driver/authorisation problem because when there's no audio software running it works. I checked license manager and monkey: my device is authorized and everything's updated. I'm running on Mac OS X 10.6.8, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8Go Ram DDR3, 512Go SSD I can't understant what's wrong... Has anyone a solution for that issue? Thank you!

I have recorded a Practice and a show to SD card and all is good but I don't want the hassle of using a daw when the M20d output already has sounds the way I want it. I know I could record the main mix on SD but the backline instruments will be off. How do you guys record? I was thinking of using my Android phone but I would need an adaptor for stereo input. I own an Alesis IO dock that I use with my I pad. could I use that in some way? Rob.. -
I usually run my guitar through numerous tones I have created myself using Pod Farm (most are distorted), about a week ago I ran the program and the tone I would usually use and it sounded clean rather than distorted. I tried other tones to see if the issue would happen, and it did! I've tried plugging and unplugging it back in, different guitars and cables etc etc. But the issue still happens! It seems to be an uncommon issue because I've been searching for answers but none have come up! Anyone else hear about this problem?

Amplifi now needs to Add a Looper Function, Record Playback

We now Need a Looper, there is no reason not to have one in the Remote, it would add so much more capability to the Amplify, I can then record a Background Rhythm, play that back and then be able to play my Lead's. With all of the Capability of the iPad or iPhone, that is a no Brainer..should be no reason why I should have to buy a pedal to have one.. They had it added when it first came out in Ideascale, but it seems they just never talked about it anymore cause the dang Amplify never worked correctly in Bluetooth so long. So everyone was focused on that. Add a looper!!! push button in the Amplifi Remote for record and playback..keep it simple like a Ditto Looper.. -

Is there any big difference in the audio quality? Does it worth the money if I invest 170 euros for a decent sound card such as the scarlett 2i4? Thanks in advance.

I need to utilize the iPad app, I tried recording to a USB but ran out of space after recording the inputs and main mix for about 1:45 hours. It was a 16gb card What is the biggest we card that the mixer will take? I currently use the usb to connect to a wired network through an apple lan adapter and it works great Is it possible to hook up a wifi USB adapter and a usb hard drive to record to or is a large sd card the only option with wifi?

Hi everyone, I just purchased an HD500X and I'm looking for some insight on a recording setup. I have two Mackie CR3 reference monitors and a Scarlett Solo audio interface. Currently, the Scarlett is connected via USB to the MacBook and the monitors are connected to the LR outputs on the back of the Scarlett. My question is, would a setup as follows work: Guitar into POD, POD output into Scarlett input, Scarlett for the monitors / USB to the MacBook. My idea is to record using the POD while having the reference monitors as my speakers. Can the monitors be plugged right into the POD so I can use the POD as the full interface, or should I use the Scarlett as the interface for everything? Hope this makes sense; it's my first time working with a live POD. Thanks!

Hi guys, I need some help. I've just bought the Amplifi Fx100 and I'm trying to record some guitar track on FL studio connecting the pedal board to my computer by USB, but... ...it doesn't work! The computer doesn't see the guitar at all. I anticipate I'm not an expert user of FL Studio (I've just started using it), so it maybe a problem of audio configurations or something like this. I have Asio4All and I have updated my Amplifi firmware. Thank you in advance!

Dears, I have tried in the shop in HKG the HD PRO and it's the last piece available. I'm an happy user of the HD400 and I would like to ask a few questions before making the purchase. I'm in a hurry because if they sell the last one I need to wait 3 months....and I can't. I'm looking to a solution to have a quick way for dry and wet rec. these are the questions or better saying what I want to try to do: 1) first I need to say I'm using a MacBook Pro with Logicpro. 2) I would like to record in the same time using USB two separate tracks one with dry guitar sound and the other with wet (effected sound) 3) once the recording is done I would like to being able to keep changing the wet settings/effect (e.g. Distortion/reverb/delay etc...). I'm doing this now with the effects in the Logicpro effects, but I like only the POD sound via USB and I'd like to confirm if with the POD Hd Pro I can do it real time, e.g. I play the recorded guitar on logic pro (not sure if the wet or the dry track) and adjust the effects manually on the POd HD pro until I finalize the setting and effect I like. 4)some people at the store said its possible also with HD 400 but with some limitation...well which limitations? As you can understand from above question I need something easy and quick, and I need to be sure before purchasing. 5) im not using any Audio/interface, I connect the USB directly to the MacBook Pro do I need any interface to do what I asked above 6) last question, what is the other advantage to pass from Hd400 to HD pro? If this is not the right approach to do it, please feel free to suggest other ideas, ;) Sorry for the long message, I'm using a new account cause the last one apparently can't send anymore message.
