When connect via USB with the proper drivers the X3 can be used as a soundcard.

Yes there are D/A convertors.

There is always an inherent quality loss when doing a D/A conversion, but if you are asking if it would sound worse than your pc's integrated soundcard, the answer is likely no, it will not sound worse and may sound better.

I've done that setup for recording before actually doing the mix down using my X3. I will say I had on occasion run into issue with some pops in the sound but I think those were more realated to my PC CPU and Memory capacity/ability than the X3 unit and drivers themselves.
