To be honest, in a live setting, I always find that the boost in volume offsets a little bit of the "out of phase-i-ness" the chorus creates, effectively making the overall volume about the same. For this reason, I've set up some beautiful subtle choruses, but when I get to the gig, I find I have to up the mix quite a bit to make it "noticeable" in a band setting.
