Updating Amplifi 75

I have seen this covered in other topics, but there seems to be no clear answer.

I purchased the amplifi 75 yesterday because it boasted android compatibility. I watched yotube videos the sound was great, tried one out in the shop same result as the videos. So my mind was made up this was the amp for me.

Got it home unwrapped it and plugged it in. Had the amp on my samsung galaxy tab already so tried to connect through bluetooth. It wouldn't work so i looked through the support pages. It said i needed to update via usb. Easy enough so i thought, checked the box no USB cable. Looked at the back of the amp, not the usual USB A or Micro USB. Was ready to ring the shop and cause havoc when i read the USB cable isn't supplied with the amp. That is already a poor start, My fender amp came with a USB cable in the box.

Popped round to a friends house tonight on my way to the gym, borrowed his Printer USB lead because I don't have a USB A to USB B lead. I was looking forward to updating the amp and using the app on my tablet. It has now been "updating" since 6.30pm, it's now 9.10pm and it hasn't done anything. Just sitting there with a circle spinning slowly and says updating firmware update.

I have the amp in update mode. Although according to the computer program there should be no lights on the amp while it is updating but the tone light stays illuminated and the 4 tone lights are illuminated also. I have followed the instructions and held the tone and tap buttons in until the pop is heard. I have tried preforming a factory reset of the amp, unplugging it for 10 minutes and turning my latptop off and on again. Nothing seems to get the amp to update. Before it is suggested I do not own any apple products and don't know anyone that will loan me theirs while I update the amp.

Does anybody know of a way to get the amp to update via USB or will I just be taking a trip back to the retailer and getting a refund. I am majorly disappointed about this.

Still trying at 10.30pm. This Is terrible. I have also tried all 4 USB ports on the laptop, un-installed the USB drivers manually and manually re-installed them. Still no luck. I have also tried running the program in compatibility mode. The laptop is picking the amp up as an audio advice called ToneMatch.

The Update Utility is for PC only at this point.

Please try a PC running Win 7 or 8.

Alternatively you can update via Bluetooth with an iOS7 or 8 device, although this will take ~30 to 40 minutes.

If you go the iOS route, make sure it is plugged into a power source and you are using WiFi.

My guess is the majority of units in circulation are from before the FW release that added Android comparability.

Lapto Runs all the same software and hardware as many desktop computers which I presume you mean by pc. So that shouldn't make a difference. I've tried it with a usb 2.0 port and 3.0 port too with no change.

If you read my post fully you will see I have no access to any ios products.

My apologies, I didn't catch the Apple or Laptop reference, from the 1st I had the impression you were trying to update from a tablet.

What OS is you laptop?

Can you try a friends Laptop/PC?

Or maybe go to the retailer to help with the update?

I'm having the exact problems and I thought I was going nuts, only it's worse than this.

I contacted and finally sent the amp to Line 6 to have them test it. I got a call yesterday from the tech saying it works fine on his "Asus." I told him what I have (a custom PC with Win7 and plenty of everything you'd need to make a small program like the Utility work, as well as my HTC One M8 phone) and he said something about "flash" and that was that. Well, I got the amp back today and not a single thing has changed. The utility updates nothing even though it doesn't need to because I borrowed someone's iPhone in order to update the firmware over it. This couldn't be more frustrating. And then a "Line 6 Expert" has zero idea what's going on? This is an embarrassment, truly. If I have to send this back, this will be the last Line 6 product I'll ever buy.

Are you able to use the AMPLIFi with the HTC now that the FW is current?

The only thing the Utility does is flash the firmware, although it is very fast compared to BT, I hate flashing via BT, so I'd be frustrated too.

I have seen other users report problems trying to update via the Utility, so if it is a bug hopefully Line6 will get it sorted soon.

So it would appear that my amp isn't the problem or my laptop but a problem with the line 6 software.

Quite possibly.

FWIW, the update Utility is fairly recent, prior to the FW that added Android compatibility an iOS device was the only was to flash.

Not managed to find anyone with win 8. And not found anyone using ios 7 that can update it. Very disappointed, but the amp does sound well. Line 6 product support hasn't been much help, just told me to retry everything I had already done then haven't replied to me.

I'm having the same exact issue trying to update a Amplifi 150. The procedure here http://line6.com/support/page/kb/_/amplifi-products/ampl/how-to-update-amplifi-with-a-pc-r701

Says "***NOTE: The fifth slide is out of sequence. After connecting the USB cable, you must put AMPLIFi 75/150/TT into Update Mode by holding the Tone and Tap buttons as you power up. At that point, open the updater program or hit the "Retry Connection" button. On the FX100, Update Mode is started by holding the A and C buttons while powering up."

So I wonder if I/we are not setting the amp into update mode at the right spot in the sequence, then- open the updater program and hit the "Retry Connection" button.

I'll try that tonight.

Meanwhile, Line 6 should correct that set of instructions to clear the confusion.

It doesn't help you much now, but you could submit a support ticket.

If it is a bug with the Utility, the details will help Line6 fix the issue.

Any luck with the store you purchased it from? Surely someone there has an iOS7 or 8 device.

I have submitted a support ticket did it when I opened this thread. They haven't been a great deal of help.they have tried but I just think they're a bit stumped haha.

I've been too busy to get back to the store I purchased it from.

So far I've attempted the update with 2 different win 7 laptops, a win 8 laptop and use two different usb cables on all 3 laptops. I used different usb leads just incase a bad lead was preventing the laptop and amp from communicating with one another. I've also tried running the program as admin and in compatibility mode. Doesn't matter what I do, it won't update via the usb lead. I don't believe that this is a driver problem because the amp shows up in the sound devices on the laptops. Think this is program issue not communicating with the amp.

Found out today the stores at work have an iPad for stock taking. Two guesses what I happened to borrow when I finished.

Good for you mate!  You give me hope.  I'm going to try to find a pal with another PC or Apple device.  But from what I'm gathering, using any PC is a crapshoot. So maybe Apple is the best way?

(on a funny note, I also have a HTC 1 M8. It's quite a sweet piece of kit, eh?)
