POD HD v2.6 FIRMWARE

Got the full pack and the firmware, whats the difference with the pre and non pre models now? I'm a bit confused in regards to why they are there minus the amp options that the non pre's have?

One simply models a power amp section, the other doesn't.

The same model of an amp, pre vs non-pre, have different sound characters as well. Try them out, you might find you prefer a pre version over the non-pre.

but can of course be used with any power amp without adding a modeled power amp sound on top of it.

looking forward to the new firmware update for my HD500, bought my HD500 second hand about 8 days ago and have not had much sleep since, was up until 5 am this morning playing round with the settings etc, I love this thing and learning to tweak it and make your own sounds its awsome, still loads to learn and understand about this unit and for the £260 I paid for it (it was boxed and in mint condition) I could not be happier. new line 6 fan I guess.

sucks to be me with my "old" HD500... lol...  but Monkey did update my Workbench HD to a new version...  and I LOVE the new PRS models in there...

Hey hey hey, it's not even April 1st yet when you posted that, unless you're European.

Can someone do a review of what's included in the new Firmware… 8 hours is too long to wait. I found the release notes and all it says is Global EQ and support for Model Packs. It that it? No new stomp models?

I was hoping, at least, that they would include code to allow the HD500X to act as an interface for the Variax 500. I was also hoping that they would add a feature to, at a minimum, disable the looper button and at best, be able to reassign that button to be something else. Twice, I have accidentally "looped" something in the middle of a live show.. It's in my way and I'm no looper.

they've previously stated that the 1st generation variax and its associated workbench are long unsupported and will not be implemented into the HD pods going forward. the original non X versions are the last to feature compatibility.

Maybe try playing in something other than your clown shoes?

Leesteel. I have triggered the looper in the middle of a song before also. I will try the rubber band suggestion for sure.

I do use the looper function when learning a songs. I can loop the rhythm and then practice the solo over that.

Guess I'm not the only one wearing "clown shoes".  :)  It's gonna draw some laughs and criticism but I will post a picture of my solution. It involves a button guard from the space shuttle.

So here is a picture of my solutions until Line6 decides to do something different. This is the same button guard you find in the cockpit of the space shuttle. Works nicely and now my size 12 "clown shoes" can't trigger an accidental loop. If I need to access the button, I can still push it with my finger or my little toe.

That's why I won't buy JTV - guitars suppose to last forever, but with "modern technology" built in I might find it "not supported" one day...

the guitar will continue to work for a long time... and a user that cared enough could keep a machine with the older supported operating system loaded up...

whats not supported is the newer 500x as an interface....

the older gear works as it always did.

but yeah... variax isn't for everyone... no surprise there.

I currently own 3 500's. I love them, the neck is better, plus I like the style even though one of mine is a Warmoth tele body. Anyway, I own the USB interface. It works fine, it's just a pain, switching from one box to the other. I owned a les paul style JTV and hated it. Don't need or use the magnetic pickups and out of all the JTV models, strat and paul's that I have tried at GC, the necks are much fatter and just not suited for "me". The necks on the 500's are closer to those on the MIM Fenders and I like it.

Leesteel,

Necks are such a personal thing on guitars. For me the JTV 59 has the best feeling neck of any guitar I have owned. I have always been more comfortable on a Les Paul neck than a strat neck though.

-Max

Totally understand that Max…. another big plus for me is the satin finish on the neck. My main reason for not liking the 600 very much was the gloss neck finish. Again, another personal preference.

Don't things like the neck finish change over time? My JEM had a nice smooth, glidy, satin finish when it was new. After about a year it is now glossy with natural skin oils, and not as smooth either because of that.

You can take some really fine grit sandpaper to it though.

I would be more inclined to try this technology if they weren't guitars. Like, if they sold the pickups and controls (and whatever else is needed) so that I could stick them in my guitar of choice.

I have these awesome playing guitars. That happen to have these awesome graphics. Let me replace the electronics.

Have you cleaned the thing?

A good waxing will get it back to smooth and glidy.

I have some guitars that I prefer not cleaned because I like the 'drag' on them. And others that I like the greasy oily slick feel.

Some #0000 steel wool will get the job done too. I'd be wary of sandpaper, unless you get some of the ultra-fine stuff that jewelers use to polish stuff...even then it might strip the finish if you're not careful.

They also work very well into the effect return of any good tube amp.

I use my HD500 pre only models/ patches into my JCM800 effect return and do the same thing with my Fender BDRI and HRDLXiii.

Great results every time.So much easier to dial in non cab models using the L6 HD instead of my Boss GT10 which has been put away for so long I dont remember where the hell it is lol!

Used the HD last night at a casino gig through a 44 Magnum power amp and a 1x12 cab.

Sounded pretty darn good and was fun to play!

There seem to be many people with no grasp on what a manufacturer is obligated to do verses what they do because they can or want to.

Not every company has the resources or income of the likes of Microsoft... Or the user base for that matter. Even they stop supporting products after a period of time.

I feel that the flagship product (HD500 and X) in any range... purely based on the numbers shipped, should (and has) been supported well and for a longer time, even after the next product generation is released (Windows 7 still supported and 8 has been out there a while).

Firmware and bugs... Support as long as commercially viable.

New models, I feel that is a different matter. Extra effort by Line 6 in obtaining new models are a bonus to the owners of the device.

I do feel however that paying $49 a pack when i bought a PodXT Live and extra packs and cannot use these anymore a discount should be available, or any models I have already paid out for be available discounted or for free!

I have been using Line6 for 10 years and have invested close to £2000 ($3K US).

Bite your tongue. Corporations are all evil and have boatloads of money that they make by not paying their employees a living wage.....

I can't even say that lollipop with a straight face. Sorry, joke time is over.

No, joke time is never over. I mean, have you seen the shoes some of these guys are wearing?

Which reminds me, even in normal shoes, I have a problem with using the tap-tempo button and hitting the exp pedal. Problem is worse in Crocs than Chucks ;) I'm actually thinking of hacking off the bottom left corner of the exp pedal to give myself some room.

For some reason, the image that conjures doesn't look or sound quite right ... lol.

Is that true, or was he joking when he said that?

I wonder if lard would work.

Supposedly that is what he does to new rosewood boards lol! EVH hates having his guitars cleaned and used to play strings until they break and then changes only one not the whole set.Robben Ford changes the entire set of strings on his guitar after tracking a solo in the studio.

I am an HD500 user and may or may not update the firmware.I am very happy with it the way it is but a global e.q. is tempting as are a few of the other amp models.I only play live cover gigs with it though. I do not record with it so I pretty much stay within the Marshall/Fender/Vox amp model areas of my HD500. For recording I use various tube amps/cabs and an M13 or individual pedals.
