HD500 + X3 Live spdif output - clocking?

I have two line6 products, that I like quite a bit.

HD500 and X3Live.

I record my band in my studio with a presonus studio live 16.0.2 and 3 firestudio's (46 tracks if I count the spdif) all working happy together.

Here is the problem.

I want to use spdif out from both hd500 and X3Live at the same time.

According to instructions, I should make the hd500 or/and  the X3 master clock...

While I understand the reason for this, I don't know how I can do both at the same time?

Secondly - I don't want to clock all that input on those 4 firewire devices on something on the floor in front of me, which I could kick the power cord or someone else could.

I play bass through the X3 and my bandmate plays through the hd500.

I really want to use spdif, however, without sync word clock, I hear pops and clicks periodically.

Sometimes, I have to restart the system completly.

So - I really want this to work because, my guitar player often switches patches - that aren't so good during a song... I need to record a dry signal from the hd500 as well as amped. Seems like this should work, however, I am worried it won't.

BTW - we don't use any amps in the studio, all direct in and headphone monitoring, works nice...

Advice appreciated.
