videoman77
I know that hd edit 500x has a driver for the Windows 8, but does anyone know if the touch aspects of a Surface Pro 3 can be utilized with HD Edit 500x? Reason being....since I'm not cool enough to have the new Firehawk, i thought i could maybe use my surface pro 3 connected to the hd500x with a long usb chord and use it during my worship sets to control the pod and tweak tones? Sounds like a good idea in my head...:)
phil_m
I have an HP laptop with a touchscreen, and I just tried using HD500X Edit with it, and the touch capabilities work well. I don't see why it wouldn't work. My main worry would actually be using the USB connection in a live situation in your case. I'd be a little worried about the cord getting pulled and the jack being broken on the 500X.
videoman77
Thats a good point on the chord. I'd probably get like a 10 foot usb cable and make sure cinch it down to the music stand. But as far as running a touch screen laptop in a live situation would there be any issue with signal lag? I know when you change patches on the computer that you can hear an audible switch, especially if you let a note ring out before switching. duncann
Might be worth a try. But definitely test it out first before going live with it. One thing, besides the cord being tripped on and ruining the usb port on the pod, would be synchronization errors. When HD Edit is running and being used at the same time of controlling the device with its buttons and pedal, this can cause the pod to crash. videoman77
I think what i'll do is try it out this sunday and just use it to make minor tweaks during rehearsal and continue to to use the floor board for the patch switching. Oh and i have my hd500x mounted to a PedalTrain Grande board so i think my potential tripping hazard would be minimal.
slockrem
I can confirm that it works, although I prefer using the touchpad....little easier for fine adjustments
ppiluk
I bought a cheap windows tablet specifically for editing my POD HD500 in more convenient and it works like a charm. The Surface Pro should work as well as my cheap tablet! This is the one I got: http://www.amazon.com/Hipstreet-INTEL-WINDOWS-Quad-Core-Tablet/dp/B00O5VUGX6
gunpointmetal
No issues on a low-budget HP touchscreen laptop with 8.1 or my Yoga 2 (btw, the Lenovo Yoga series is great, SSD, i7, 8Gb RAM, convertible body) but i do find that some of the adjustments are hard to do accurately on the touch screen. Rewolf48
... use it during my worship sets to control the pod and tweak tones? Sounds like a good idea in my head... :) I know that technically it can work - I have a 10' USB and a 8.1 touchscreen laptop in my home practice space, but I would much rather be concentrating on playing the guitar than fiddling around with things that should have sorted out before rehearsal let alone during a public performance.

I agree with that. I used it last night because it was the first time was going to use the pedal with the new amp models and i wanted to be able to change some things quick in rehearsal. But as for the Song service or performance i never touched it.
