But I want the harmony to be a half step, to achieve an affect similar to what you would hear in a Tony Danza Tap Dance Extravaganza song. Sounds like 1/2 step and flat-5 (tritone) get a bit of mileage. Use the "Pitch Glide" set to +1 (1/2 step) or +6 (tritone) with a mix of 50/50. Don't' work about trying to use the Smart Harmony.
