She uses it for tapping/sweep picking so that any accidentally touched strings are damped, but it can just be flicked up when you do want open strings to sound, back in the high gain 80's hair scrunchies and similar would be used for this but were not as even or quick to enable/disable

It seems to be a 69 body and neck with a 89F double locking Floyd Rose tremelo system.

She's also using some non standard pickups.

Great looking guitar!

Nice to see some well known top player using a Variax.

Of course, Adrian Belew has been using the Variax electronics in his Parker guitar for a long time.

The neck gotta be custom, the headstock doesn't match the 89f, plus the handwritten "Variax" on the headstock.

No, it's a 69 body so it's definitely not a 89 neck. Wouldn't fit.

You're probably correct that it's a custom neck though, it doesn't look like a stock 69 neck.

Custom paint job, replacement pick-ups, new whammy bridge.

What's that thing at the nut end?

Impossible to say if she's using the modelling or the custom pick-ups.

Seems it also has a Fishman tripleplay installed.
