Humbucker cover for JTV-69?

Recommended Posts

I've recently aquired the JTV-69 (havent received it yet - looking forward to it a lot!) and I think the humbucker stands too much out.

Is it possible to put on a humbucker cover of some kind? I'd think one of the typical Gibson humbucker covers in chrome would look great - but have anyone done something similar?

My two JTV-69 will be red With white pickguard, white singlecoils and black humbucker.

The other one is sunburst With black humbucker and white single coils.

(James Tyler - what did you think of???)

Measure the distance between the two outermost polepieces, center to center. Convert to millimeters for the first link below. The second link uses inches.

Humbucker covers were actually discussed much in the first year or so of the JTV's, though mostly about the 59. Matter of taste, mostly. Seems someone then found a place to get HB covers, but standard Gibson ones don't fit or the pole spacing is different. I have the 59 and the 69S (SSS - not HSS configuration). The open coils of the 59 never bugged me. I'm not a fan of the HSS superstrat config on any, whether JTV or other brands.... Not to my taste.

Unfortunately unless some knows of a link to the old forum for viewing, those posts and discussions are no longer available -- anybody? Honestly, I don't much recall discussion on the 69 open coil HB looks or the color mismatch between the 69 HB and its SC's...

Some folks' solution (on the 59) was to replace the HB's with ones of their liking. I'm sure this would also be an option for the 69. I replaced the 3 SC's on my 69S with noiseless DiMarzio SC's.

Yup - you could do black covers on your SC's -- those aren't expensive, but don't know if standard Fender covers will fit, though I don't see why they wouldn't. You can also get replacement face plates to get it to your liking -- there have been different threads on that here in the forums. I got a white pearloid face plate for my 69S at www.fullcompass.com -- One thing about Full Compass -- they are not speedy with filling orders - the times I ordered from them, they didn't ship out for about a month. I think it's because they are a Warranty repair center for Line 6, so they often have to wait for L6 to ship to them before they can send it on to the final customer...

The faceplates I just scoped out for the 69 HSS config:

Hey guys! Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead... So I'm also thinking of getting myself a humbucker cover for my JTV69S (HSS).

Just wanted to confirm if the right size would be 52mm. From what I measured, it seemed so, but just wanted to double check before closing the deal.

I've tried to find that info in the links from Full Compass posted before, but they're seem to be all "missing".

I'll appreciate any help! Thanks in advance =)
