Hi'

I am a new owner of a POD 500HD.

How do I use the footswitches to move between different settings while playing live? As far as I can tell the footswitches only turn individual pedals on and off within a single setting...

Thanks :)

Check the Setup menus. On the first (or maybe second) menu page there is a setting called FS Mode. This setting determines how the bottom row of footswitches behaves. These can either switch to another preset (what you are calling 'settings', I think) in the same bank of presets, or turn on/off FX within the same preset. For the former set FS Mode to ABCD. For the latter, set to FS5-8.

You can assign multiple pedals to one footswitch. I do this in a preset where I just want one press to go from a gated rhythm sound to a slightly boosted, ungated lead sound with reverb and a touch of delay... Or a sparkly clean sound to a pitch-bent synth sound.
