Found a Helix case

I just got my Helix and love it. I have a gig on the 30th out of state so I have been looking frantically for a road case. I ended up buying this one for $115.

It's quite well made for the price and it fits fairly well. With the Helix inside there is about a 1 inch gap around all four sides. So I bought a 1x4 and attached foam to each side and now the Helix fights just right. Not bad for around $125.

Here are some pics of the Helix in my Gator G-MIX 12x24 Hard Case. The Helix fits almost perfectly. The latches and hinges are good quality - certainly better than some SKB products I've had.

I may add some Supreem Foam (aka gun/camera foam) to the top at some point - if I was ever going to check it on an airplane. I'm very happy with the case, even though at $160 it's expensive, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a hard case for their Helix.

Gator G-Tour Pedalboard LGW is dead on. Solid build with wheels and removable pedal riser. Can't imagine much better.

Cut the supplied foam with scissors and added some velcro for good measure, 5 min setup.

Room for cables underneath.

I'm 5'7" with t-rex arms, and it rolls great upright for me.

I'm sharing this information in a couple different topic threads where folks are asking about cases...

I removed the 4 screws holding the rubber feet in the corners and replaced them with 4 metric screws the same size, but longer -- long enough to allow me to attached to 1/2" clear pine cleats to the bottom of the Helix (with washers). The cleats are colored flat black so they disappear. I then set everything into a pedalboard roadcase with a lift off top (see attached photo). There are wood screws with trim washers that reach up from underneath the roadcase and hold the cleats to the roadcase.

If you're wondering about the Radial stereo direct box, although the XLR outs on the Helix work fine in some local active monitors I use at home, I'm getting some noise when I run them into the FOH console at one of the venues I play every week (BTW, it's not related to the 'ground lift'; it's not the typical 'ground noise'; the position of the Helix ground lift switch for the XLR outs doesn't make a difference). I found that taking the 1/4" outputs from the Helix into the Radial gives me a clean signal to this particular FOH console.

Hope this helps!   :)

BTW, the road case is from http://www.roadcasesusa.com/effect-pedal-cases-1-4-light-duty-ata-3-great-sizes-starting-99/ It's a 32"x16".

Hi, did you use Velcro on the bottom of the helix? If so did you have to remove the feet from it?

Thanks

Scotch 3M EXTREME FASTENERS (velcro) from Home Depot 1"x3" (25,4mmx76,2mm). One strip each side. Kept feet ON. Just enough clearance to push down and engage and hangs upside down no problem. Very solid. Easy option if you ever need to pull it off of the board, too. Hope that helps.

Great, thanks. I've ordered the same board and it's due to be delivered tomorrow.

I ordered this one and got it yesterday....sucker is huge, like carrying a full size suit case. Not really sure if I'm gonna like it, going to look for something else I think.

Sorry to bug you again....did you remove the foam blocks in order to cut them or just cut them as they are sitting in the case?

Just to throw it out there as another option for anyone with the gator case, you don't necessarily have to cut the 4 foam braces under the board to make it fit. I found it easier to take the padding out of the case lid (it's only velcro'd in) and trim that a bit. That way you can still store cables and power leads etc under the tray.

I second this comment. Everything in the bottom can stay intact. Just pull top foam out and trim a few pieces with scissors for extra cushion. Pic below of mine.

So how is the weight of the Helix with the case? I decided to go with the hard case for the protection.

I use this case from Ultimate Support. It's originally for a keyboard, but fits the Helix perfectly. The front pockets have plenty of room for cables.

Anyone else try this one? The Ultimate Support USS1-25/37c

I quite like the look of it - and It is just $49

I've used this for my pedal board since the late '80s, and still going strong. It started life as a keyboard case. I had it modded with appropriate internal material and swapped the fixed hinges for removable ones, and now use the lid section as the base. Super durable and protective. It will undoubtedly last the rest of my life!

Cheers for the tip about trimming the top case padding on the Gator case. I cant seem to open the photo though - any chance you could post as a pdf or something?

Sorry for the thread necro, but I've been referencing this thread searching for a case for my Helix.  I know the Helix backpack is out, but I wanted something with a little more protection.

I finally broke out the case I had been using for my HD500 - the SKB SC2111.  I assumed since the Helix was larger, and the HD500 was a perfect fit, that the Helix wouldn't work.  I was pleasantly proven wrong.  It's a snug but workable fit.

You can see in this picture that it fits lengthwise.  The front-to-back depth is just a hair too long, so that the I/O panel sits on the case - but luckily the top foam is removable, so that added height does not stop the bag from closing.

https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMsRgz78QTY-OzFzqlPoUaM01IqZqFvmjX64IwJyY0K1UH5wni3mhsZ196868tmKQ/photo/AF1QipNQ0AxQ7zHTieFLlB4TWvu3_EJP7Ka2hBwApT3U?key=dzFEa3ZfeGZVbEdjR1J4RFdYcTBjSllCODVCcVF3

Here's a picture of the HD500 in the case with the Helix beside for comparison

And here's why I love this case so much.  It's been humped around on gigs for 5 years now, on tour twice, run over twice (!!!!), and in checked luggage round trip from Atlanta to Japan.  It looks trashed....but my HD500 is in perfect shape.  Which, in my view, is exactly what a case/bag is supposed to do.

And best of all, it's $50.  I just ordered another.

Have the same problem with the XLR outs even going into my Mission Engineering Gemini Cab...noisy.  Switch over to the quarter inch jacks and noise goes away....too bad too as I want to run the XLR into the ME Gemini for FRFR and the quarter inch into my PWE EH3 amp/cab.

Hope it works out Dennis.

They were all out of stock when I looked, so I ended up getting the Novation 25 key Gigbag / backpack. It's really good - a little snug at first, but then I hear the actual Helix backpack is snug at first too.
