Hi,

since the old forum post is now locked (http://line6.com/support/thread/148156?tstart=0) I want to share these videos again to be able to answer some questions you might have.

So, here's 2 videos I made with my JTV-69:

Yep, those are ghost saddles. The original saddles were 'worn out' and sounded weird. The ghost saddles gave the 500 a 'new life' ;-)

So ghost saddles definitely help improve old Variaxes.

I did hear some differences here and there, but I think the piezo quality really does set aside the differences vastly.

I'm sure there would be a even more of a difference with the original LR baggs piezos.

LR baggs is cool and all, but their Variax 300/500/600/700 piezos were pretty badly done.

The JTV piezos on the other hand are very well done and I applaud them for that, right up their with the graphtech ghost system.

As much as I'd love a JTV, I'll stick to me recently purchased 600 for now. I actually love the quality of my 600, it's just the hardware is outdated, obviously, but the maple neck and body are pretty amazing.

I'd kill for those new acoustics and standalone alt tuning knob. I got a lot of custom guitars that I use, like an SG, Jaguar, Bass, and Fat Strat model, but I use a lot of alternate tunings so I have to waste pickup selector banks for same models that just have alternate tunings. I end up having to think which models I really want to use at the moment, but hopefully I can get a JTV in the future one day.

Nice comparison vids, hadn't realized there was such a big difference between the sound of the old Variax and the JTV - JTV sounds much better and more "alive" to my ears (might be due to the slight volume difference?) when compared to Variax 500 and stacks up nicely to the "real" versions you compare it to, a couple of the models sound dead on and others different but just as good or better than the originals (diffent mostly due to you not having the exact year and model represented in the modeling I suspect).

And Stevie Wonder and Bee Gees riffs, cool! Thanks for the post!

Nice comparison's.  I agree the JTV sounds alot better than the 500.  It's been awhile since I've had my 700 out, but I don't remember the difference between it and my JTV 59 sounding that pronounced.  The second vid to me show's that while the JTV's are good they are dead sounding compared to the real thing, they're just lacking the livelyness to me.  I've even noticed on my JTV59 the mag p/u's sound quite a bit livelier to me vs the models.  Maybe the coming HD models will get it sounding closer.  Still I really like the JTV's they're just very versitile.
