Majiinfreddy
Hi, I got my Pod 500hdx in the mail today, along with my Marshall DSL40c. Trying to plug it all together , but the sound coming out of the Marshall is VERY low and sounds really distorted (even more so if I turn up), same if I try using headphones (Were I only get sound on one ear). Connected with Jack cables, using the Guitar input and and 1\4 mono left (or right) output. Appreciate any help I can get. Mind you, I'm a newbie when it comes to all of this fancy equipment , clearly. Thanks!
toonsms
Couple of questions: where on amp are you plugging in? What setting is your toggle switch for Out? Amp or line? Recommend using effects return on amp and therefore using line setting.
silverhead
Well, the first thing to understand is that you are using two amplifiers: the physical Marshall as well as the modeled amp in the HD500X. Imagine that you had two physical amps, and you routed the output of the first amp into the input of the second. Also imagine that both amps are applying distortion (and whatever other FX you have active) to the sound. I would expect a muddy mess of a sound - and that's what you're getting. The second thing to understand is that you need to read the HD500X manual. If you're new to the world of amp/FX modeling you have a steep learning curve ahead of you, and that's the best place to start.
toonsms
Also, plug headphones into hd and verify sound there first. Perhaps you system i/o isn't correctly set. Settings -> page 3.
toonsms
Check page 4 of settings as well. You can set appropriate out settugs here. Basucally whether or not you are plugging in on front of amp or thru effexts loop, or dirext to studio/pa etc.
Majiinfreddy
Got the headphones working. Just removed all cables and replugged, now it sounds fine and dandy! Couple of questions: where on amp are you plugging in?What setting is your toggle switch for Out? Amp or line?Recommend using effects return on amp and therefore using line setting. Plugged in on the front input.Amp setting. Well, the first thing to understand is that you are using two amplifiers: the physical Marshall as well as the modeled amp in the HD500X. Sounds veeeery distorted and low.Yeah, Reading the manual but didn't get any help from it yet when it comes to this subject in particular. But yeah, I do recognize the need to read it. Settings on the POD; Input, Guitar.Output, Combo Pwr Amp (tried everything, not sure what is the correct setting however).Really appreciate the help, and quite impressed how ..fast you answered...Thanks again
Majiinfreddy
After changing the cable to the amp, rebooting and changing the setting to Line, it now sounds a lot better.I got a bit of .. noise, but I guess I'll tweak around till I find it!Kinda embarrassing.. But I appreciate the help a lot ! Thanks!
toonsms
2 other things to look into: - check the little toggle next to the footpedal. In your setup you want amp - Input impedence
silverhead
Try using the Pre (rather than Full) amp models in the HD500X presets, set Output Mode to Stack Amp, and route the HD500X output to your amp's FX Return input. You may need to use a dummy plug in the amp's FX Send to activate the FX Loop.
silverhead
For maximum flexibility using your amp with the HD500X you should read up on the 4 Cable Method of connecting the devices. There are plenty of threads in this forum on this topic. Search for "4CM".
pianoguyy
Kinda embarrassing No worries. We've all been 'new' at one point. And this kind of stuff is not really 'plug and play'.

Majiinfreddy
Can I fry an amp using the pod 500hdx? :P My marshall dsl40c won't give out any sound. All lights are as it should. I get static when turning up the sound (Wanted to see if the speaker made sound). (Tried different cables, connection straight into the amp) Thanks again
