Let's put the real name to the presets

Anyone noticed that two of the most iconic rock guitar sounds are not there from what I can see.

Where's Slash or AFD tone or any GNR sound?

Where's AC/DC?

And even tough they apparently maybe simple to tune, they can be tricky to spot on!

Why is that?

Or maybe the presets are there but in disguise.

I think some of the presets may have changed in recent versions, because I'm positive that my Helix bought a few months ago has a Deafheaven preset, but I don't see it in your list.

Yes, each release results in the removal of some presets and addition of others.  So if there are presets you like, it's a good idea to copy them to a user list and/or back up those presets.

I'm pretty sure there is somebody out there who is keeping a comparative list from release to release.. Might be at HelixHelp.com

Iconic to you perhaps, but we are too cool

But, really, I KNOW there are some AC/DC in there, or at least there were, and I can't imagine there's not a GNR or two.

This is amazing. Let's try to name all of them and find a way to update the Helix with the real names.

If you write out the presets individually, they are text files that can be edited.  Just make sure you don't use more than 16 characters for each name, and don't use any bad characters, and don't be surprised if the preset gets borked if you make an unintentional change elsewhere before you read it back in.   There's always a factory reset if things go totally south... ;)

Factory 2 - In Your House

"In Your House" by The Cure from their Seventeen Seconds album.

It's an obscure choice but the tone sounds just like that song, so it's gotta be it.  There's also a preset for Just Like Heaven by them also but I'm not finding it on your list.  I just got a Helix LT so maybe it's a newer one.

Sweet Dispozish is based on the song Sweet Disposition by the Aussie band The Temper Trap. Lovely clean tone with reverb and dotted eighth delay.

My new helix dosent have a lot of those, is there any way to get them without paying?

The built-in templates are occasionally changed or replaced with newer firmware versions.  I guess you could always go back to a prior version although I'm not sure why you would really want to do that.

Hi,  attached is a file  of  the Factory  presets from  version 2.710. It is in an .xls format.

If anyone can update the list, let me know I can update it as need.

I use it to keep track of presets I like or want to mod  at the beginning.  I added a Notes column.

Some people on another topic were asking for this. I will try to keep it updated for the software update.

@Bboy19 Wouldn't Factory 2 28B "Gimme +/- 3 Steps" be Lynyrd Skynyrd?

And have you given any thought to uploading the spreadsheets into Google Sheets? That way pretty much anyone can access them. No biggie for me since I have Excel, but just a thought.

Nevermind. Just did it. I'd like to credit the following:

  • Bboy19
  • Dshowmusic.com
  • FluidSolo.com
  • Updates appearing the the 2.80 update
  • Everyone in the "Let's put the real name to the presets" thread
  • Ben Vesco

When I link to a video, it's the most current one on that preset. Not trying to play favorites.

Do any of y'all actually use any of the presets?

Most of them sound like crap no matter what you name them

I haven't even played a single note of any factory preset so far, so I wouldn't know how they sound. And to avoid any possible dissapointment, I might just never load any of them.

However, as far as presets sounding crap, I think that's a rather common thing. I mean, they're created with different guitars, different picking strength and what not. Which, btw, is also why I'd like to create my own default settings for amps and drives.

Does anybody ever USE factory presets? That would be a surprise. Being able to change the defaults would be helpful.

Am i being thick?

On my stomp i dont have preset list 1 and 2.

My preset list doesn’t look like either of these lists.

e.g

20a everybreath

20b ticket to ride

But i have

20a everybreath

20b no name lane

Running 2.82 firmware

My guess is that because of the 6 block limit, the Stomp probably doesn't have the exact same list of factory presets as the rest of the Helix line. If I'm mistaken, I'm sure somebody will chime in...
