If line 6 wants to make this unit really top notch they need to offer customers more frequent updates. updating every 3-4 months with new fx and/or amp/cab sims is not doing customers any favors.I would think with yamahas help this unit should surpass anything out there.come on guys make this thing kick lollipop and take names.I would hate to see this unit take a back seat like some other line 6 products in the past have done. I love my Helix but wont wait a year to get fx I think should be added. There are tons of great ideals being submitted so please follow thru for your customers, soon. thanks

There are already a lot of amps and fx in the helix as well as routing options by which you could plug in your fave effects. Don't tell me you've already exhausted all the tonal possibilities the Helix has to offer?

Not to mention the increased chances for more bugs and instability that can often plague frequent updates. You can't catch them all when you're going too fast.

What will you do, then?

Yep ha ha. Seems that one is out of his hands. Maybe he intends on smashing it :)

I do agree with the OP however on his opening statement. Id like to see this thing join the Army and be all it can be.

In my perfect lil world line 6 would

1) add 5 more amps

2) add 5 more cabs

3) 2 more killer compression options

4) and then really concentrate on making all amps/cabs/and fx sound phenomenal. Especially the cabs. They are the weak point in Helix IMO.

All good things come to those who wait. I too want new stuff to be added to the Helix and I know that they will come. I see no reason to doubt Line 6`s support for the Helix as they have already brought out a lot of updates since release and its only been a few months

I'm out :P .

Until i have'nt discovered at last 50 percent of all the possibilties, i really don't want to have more features. Did you, fastnloud, really explore all the amps with all the tweaking options? I'll bet that there are not verry much amps wich can't be reproduced with the existing models using all the little tweakers as bias, sag, mic, Distance, low and highcut..............

More important to me: Perfect stability  and perhaps some cabs with less bright sound. Second one is no priority to me.

Fractal and Atomic have 1 or 2 products each. Many are complaining that the amplifire FW is "late". I am pretty sure the CLR is not getting many engineering cycles these days and no FW is in the works for CLR. I really can not see complaining about Helix already. . .

Bad example- the CLR is a FRFR active speaker cabinet- no "firmware" is involved lol. But the thing is Line 6 never- NEVER gives out exacts on when their products will be updated. Ive been with them since I guess early 2000 or so,  and they have never done this. Its just not the way they do business. No matter who else does. Period. Now, if you don't like the way Line 6 operates then put yer stuff up on Ebay and move on, but yer not gonna make them change by being upset here folks, and thats a fact. Ive even tried to do this here, and failed badly. It aint gonna happen.

I'd rather they did it right than did it fast.

A few things to remember.

Yamaha is not "helping" in the way you think they are. They own L6, but they are very hands-off. That is their M.O. with companies they own going back decades.

If you are buying a piece of technology for what it might do someday, take your money and put it back in your pocket.

(Of course, expecting new cool stuff from Helix is reasonable imho, too... but they've been working hard on that editor you all wanted so bad...)

And... Line 6... speaking for the people who use this stuff for work... give us new models, amps, updates, etc. when they are really solid and ready, not before... do it right, it's what you do well. (And yes, I KNOW they are doing this, being a beta tester and all...

Agreed! As I will be using it for work as well in the not too distant future.  :P

This is what I meant about quality over quantity.  Goes hand in hand with what you have in bold there.

I think the helix sounds awesome and a well built product but this is the reason I'm not switching from my axe fx to the helix. I've been very frustrated in the past with line 6 resistance to support their existing product with firmware upgrades. I will buy a helix when I see that line 6 will support existing customers with fairly frequent firmware upgrades and additions. I mean fractal is the complete opposite. I can't keep up with firmware additions and goodies.

I agreed with OP at least on making the Helix more friendly and enhancing the way we can use it. I mean by that, updating quickly items which are issues in making the best out of editing the beast. More characters in labels. Fixing the dual cab reset thing, improving the MIDI programming. For me and the JVM it's not perfect but it could be if only.

What I'm affraid is that the resources are going to be spent duplicating in an editor  of what we already have in the Helix and we may have to wait longer to get improvements.

I bought the Helix with 1.06.5. I found a bug with the MIDI and teh command center. I reported it. They thanked me and indicated that it had been reported. When I installed 1.10.0 it was corrected so they are doing something. Time will tell.  Beside amps and effects, Helix is young and there is a few things that could definetly be improved quickly. Ideascale is a good plan but please lets fix the small things first and quickly.

this was not posted to be bashed by forum members or for sure " line 6 staff".  What will I do then? how bout not buy your products is that what you want me to do? I'm just stating a fact that i have been burned by line 6 before and hope that this is not another go round. frequent updates should be the norm. there are a lot of areas to improve the helix. yes i love mine ( right now) just want to see line 6 push the limits and make it the best modeler. I guess that's asking too much though. I'm not in a big rush but I am seeing a trend already with updating new amps/cabs ,stomps, ect. i could give a crap less about the editor since helix really does not need one its pretty simple as is. move on already..

The old "i'll take my toys and go home" attitude doesn't work anymore. Your money is replaced by 1000 others with the cash. There are just too many others who like what Line-6 has done so far, and are not interested in making (even if they could) anyone including Line 6 push any of your limits. Besides, they need to do this on their own without money for an incentive, don't they? Thats the mark of true dedication. I think Line-6 has done one Hellova job and have earned more respect than you are offering up. The making people do what you want or else attitude is long on inexperience, and short on results.

Oh no, now it's Chapter 11 for sure.

Buying things because of what they MIGHT become one day, is an excellent way to spend the rest of your life being chronically disappointed. Better odds in a casino.

truth is the jury is out on this unit so we will see what line 6 does in the coming months. if i don't like it i will again loose money on a product with " what could have been". i would expect a little more professional responses in a forum instead of 3rd grade post. I got plenty of "toys" so i'm not worried about me its the dude that scraped up 1500 bucks of hard earned cash. My post was covering a topic that line 6 will hear a lot in the coming year if they listen fine if they don't fine. this is not the end all be all anyway. its still digital and still sounds digital to me. I'm just a professional guitarist and everyday consumer that wants the best product for the money.

most of these forums are a waste of time because of people bashing someones opinion instead of having an adult conversation about what the company can do to better the product in the long term.  most of the post here are about trying to prove your point instead of moving forward with ideals in a positive way.

I agree totally here - buy stuff for what it does at the time you hand over your money. Or credit card.

The only exception to this would be if a product has a well defined public product roadmap, then I guess it's ok to want what was promised. Other than that, you get what you pay for!

So you think people should expect that what is essentially a bleeding edge hardware design with a complex application on top of an operating system to be in its finished state the day its is released to market?  I know of very few new and innovative pieces of hardware with extensive applications or operating systems that don't require upgrades, bug-fixes, and enhancements as part of their lifecycle and people do have an expectation of them based on past experience with other similar products. Successful and responsible companies provide support and improvement. Whether or not all their customer's expectations come to fruition, some new products are purchased not only for what they are but for their future potential, and this product has a lot of potential. This is not the family toaster! Helix users generally don't expect it to be exactly the same in a year. There are plenty of other products that are exceptions to your assertion that we shouldn't buy the Helix if we expect any improvements; at least the long-lived better ones that retain a loyal user base . I would like to think people with reasonable expectations who buy the Helix for what it could be will end up being described as chronically hopeful rather than "chronically disappointed". A much better outcome for all parties.

The user's on this forum have a reasonable expectation of improvements and additions to this product. Line6 certainly has not told its customers, this is the Helix in its finished state. How does your statement contribute in any way to the improvement of this product? Do you even own a Helix? If so it does not appear you have much of an interest or faith in its ongoing development. How is a healthy dose of sarcasm combined with a dour pronouncement about how ridiculous it is to think the Helix "MIGHT" be better one day a contribution to this forum?  So what, if fastnloud appears to have had some bad experiences with Line6 in the past and has given up on the Helix (for now). I don't see any reason to ridicule or harass the guy, he does not appear to be a troll. I for one hope Line6 surpasses his expectations and he repurchases it at some point.  If not, no harm, no foul, Different strokes for different folks. I know people including myself don't always express themselves in the most diplomatic fashion possible but it seems like some people only jump in a thread just to stoke the fire. There is enough of that going around already and after all, that is what Facebook is for ;)

IMO I would much rather see an integration of a "scene" mode than more effects in the near future. That's just personal preferences of what's more important to me though as I can get most if not all the sounds I want though some sort of combination of preamps, amps, and effects.

Not saying I don't want more amps/effects/cabs/etc though. The more, quality, sounds the better. And I find the Helix pushed though a tube power amp pulls almost all, noticeable but small, "digital" sound coming through If you haven't tried that fastnloud.

I've mostly used this as a digital pedal board, and I originally was under the impression you could assign each block, and any combination of blocks, to a single switch and each block to multiple switches, similar to how an octaswitch works. But the fact that you can only assign a block to a single footswitch becomes IMO the most limiting part of this unit.

But I see similar complaints of what line 6 is working on pretty consistently throughout the forum though, and I don't quite understand the mystique of it. It would be nice to see a general idea of the things they are working on. I can see where this just takes away from time they could be spending working on other things, and that they are probably working on so many different things that it would be hard to list it all, but I don't see it needing to be very specific, a general idea of some of the things they're doing would be nice especially when it comes to functionality. The idea scale sort of does this but its rarely updated and last time I checked it has things implemented over 6 months ago still pending. But with things like the editor (I know it is already out) just saying "We're working on an editor" just to know it's on their radar would be amazing.

Do I need frequent? No. Every couple months is enough for me to really try out an effect or get used to an amps dynamics and stuff anyway. But It would be nice to have a little more transparency on what's going on for future updates/ what Line 6 is actually thinking as far as future updates go

Some people confuse update frequency with quality (and stability). I always prefer the latter.

About transparency: This has a lot to do with communication. And when work is in progress, the 'information quantity' gets less - I can understand this (up to a certain degree ;)).

I guess what people are missing is some kind of agenda or schedule.

But if L6 really takes account into the wishes of the Helix users, this can be tricky.

Thinking of the ideascale and the editor uprising etc.: Consumers are really close to the progress, I guess

(I know, I already can hear the moaning: 'What?! What about my wish [...]')...

But sometimes things are messed up because some customers keep crying :D

I'm still curious because DI said that the fun will (really) start after the editor has been published...

Updates will likely become more frequent once they get the editor all up to speed. You can't really complain when they choose to give you free amps and pedals when their schedule allows. If you really feel so entitled perhaps you would be happier moving on to another product.

"Reasonable" being the operative term. Demanding more stuff every couple of months for a product that took 6 years to develop? Doesn't strike me as particularly reasonable.

You mean as compared to stamping one's feet and publically declaring to a bunch of fellow users that you're not gonna buy any more L6 products? Gee, I guess you're right...my statement wasn't nearly as helpful as that.

Expectation versus obligation is certainly a legitimate philosophical debate and a very thin line when it comes to items as expensive (at least to me) and complex as the Helix. I know you did not expressly use the word but in some sense we are probably talking about "entitlement". I certainly have my own sentiments and sense of disgust regarding an unreasonable sense of entitlement. However I think entitlement can also become a code word for bashing either someone else's priorities, or any attempt to improve the Helix. Given the pressure to bring products to market there is a point to be made that companies do actually have an obligation to flesh out products for early adopters who buy them with full confidence that the company will make sure they are ultimately relatively bug free and have a comparable although perhaps different feature set to other competing products. With fierce competition it has become common to release a product to market and use the sales cycle for additional development cycles. Besides all else this allows the company to determine how many development resources to allocate to the product based on sales figures. Nonetheless, I certainly understand those who feel that "obligation" is too strong a word and I hate to get caught up in semantics when ultimately I feel most forum users and Line6 work best when we work together. Both customer and company need to exercise reasonable expectations of each other. I would like to think that when the semantic argument is over that the company is left feeling they have produced a first rate product and earned decent profits, the customer is happy with their purchase, and both parties feel confident in each other's commitment to ongoing efforts to rock this world.

I'm only for buying models/effects if I can get credit as a return for the ones I don't want. At this price point the only direct competitors ARE Fractal and Kemper, and neither of them is charging for models, so I personally think it would a be a silly thing for L6 to do with this format.

I'd much rather see platform stability and functionality increased before more amps and effects, though. I've noticed this with people using modelers even outside of internet forums that a lot of people request amps/cabs/effects not necessary because they need it to achieve a specific goal but more because "HOW COOL WOULD THAT BE?" syndrome. You know, where you really want that Dumble model on there even though 90% of your use is in extreme metal genres or synthy pop-rock, but how cool would it be to have that in there anyways.....

Hey If the shoe fits... I was however just stating fact. Once Line 6 gets any needed bugs worked out within Helix,  any extras they decide to give us, to promote more sales or for whatever the reason, is indeed mana from Heaven and icing on the cake for us owners. I would like this as would we all. But I say again, we are not entitled to any more than what we have now.  ;)

AND what has already been promised.

Although the editor is out, (which was the last specific thing they said they are giving to us) all the other stuff has been quite vague...

So as it sits we are still entitled to quite a bit of "vagueness." lol

Entitlement is a dual edged sword, usually the word is wielded by people who think its blunted on their end.  (AKA doesn't apply to them, because its them.) This is especially so in the political, and economic spectrum.

Not speaking of you personally Spikey, just speaking in general.

Line 6 fan boys are the strangest group I have ever seen.

Bashing people that ask for new amps and fx?

Making people feel outright stupid for asking for the amp or fx that they want?

Guess with all the people in here that don't want anything and bash/ insult people that do, my dream of having a Mesa mark 2c on my helix is looking pretty dismal right now.

I like my helix but thank god I'm not defending its lack of amp/ cab's/ fx by trolling people that do want more.

And W......T.......F? Old boy has a washer and is expecting it to fly out of his house? I'm not even going to ask what he is smoking.

There are two ways to ask for things: One is pleasant and contrite, and the other is pitching a fit. Declaring that the company "isn't doing anyone any favors", and demanding that they conform to his arbitrary deadline ("I won't wait a year...") for adding things he has decided "should" be included, is the latter of the two. No way to open a conversation.

Threatening not to buy any more L6 products whilst referencing previous instances of getting "burned" by the company, is childish. No one will be inclined to help you if you behave that way. L6 doesn't care if you pout. If pouting worked, my daughter would have gotten that pony she wanted when she was 6. (In my defense, it was a small apartment at the time ;) ). It's not endearing, and will be about as effective as consulting a Ouija board, or dancing over a pile of chicken bones and goat's blood while chanting supplications to the Gods.

As for the dishwasher and the helicopter...it's called sarcasm. Buying any device and expecting it to become something other than what it was the day you bought it is silly, and deserving of a silly analogy.
