federalhog
Unless I'm an idiot, which is highly possible. So I set the auto trim and sing into the mic my loudest. It sets the trim, then I can barely hear my vocals unless I almost max out the vocal fader, or whatever line6 prefers to call it. Any ideas? I'm setting all the trims manually, ensuring they aren't clipping. Sometimes in the yellow, never in the red. I'm using the L6 link for 2 L3M mains and a L2T monitor. I'm using an L3T as an acoustic amp too, going into input 2, not the L6 link. Thanks
Digital-sound
I have not actually used the auto trim to set my levels. I have set everything manually, and I am just counting on auto trim to correct if someone gets too loud. From what I know, your auto trim sounds like it is working. How much louder are you singing to set the trim compared to when you are singing for your performance? When the input gain is set on any board, it is set so that at your loudest point in the night, you will not "clip". Maybe you are setting it with too high of a vocal compared to what you are actually going to song. If the level you are setting the trim at, is a level you will be using during the performance, the. I think it has set correctly.
dboomer
Do you mean you can't hear the vocal by itself or inside the mix? What mic are you using? What preset? What gain does the auto trim set itself to?
federalhog
Here's the deal. I'm a baritone. So when I set the levels, I might be pushing my voice too much, when in actuality my actual singing is much softer. I'll have to check the settings later and report back. Digital-sound
And I think that is okay, as long as you are able to set the volume to an acceptable level with some headroom still. But, if you never reach the level you are using to set the trim level, then maybe you should set softer. I think answering dboomer would be helpful too. What are the levels being set at? And what dB do you need to set the channel fader at for performance?
federalhog
Well I'm not performing anywhere yet. I have the stagescape, a L2T, 2 L3M's and a L3T that I use as an acoustic amp. I know I shouldn't really be plugging the L3T I use as an acoustic amp into input 2 on the board, but this is my rig that I bring to shows, that is my acoustic rig, the 3LT. I know I should go direct to the board, but I have a rather complex system of preamps because of the guitars that I use, which are primarily resonators. I guess I should probably start over. I just set the levels for the vocals and then the guitars as I said and I can hardly hear the vocals. Have to turn the fader up real high, which doesn't seem right. I'm using a seinhausser e935 for vocals.
dboomer
Setting the trims isn't directly related to the mix and whether you can hear what. There are other factors that we need to consider. That's why I need to know the preset and to when number the auto trim sets the mic pre gain. Bad car analogy ... but it's a little like expecting your car to go a certain speed with the gas pedal half way down. It depends what gear you are in and whether you are going uphill or downhill ;)

Digital-sound
Your level is only at -6.8db. That is not overly high. And the trim is at +14 which seems plenty high enough. It would be good to see what the guitar is at that you say is so loud. Can you send those levels as well? Anyway, I don't want to add too much confusion and dboomer is far more familiar with the board than I am. Let him advise.
