steveizzard
My variax standard came with the Strat type bridge flat against the body. Is it ok to set it up for floating, as I'm using Floyd Rose on my other guitars, with my playing style I use a lot of pull ups on my trem? wheelnut
I adjusted my bridge to be floating and it works great. But mine is set up Bigsby-style, with only a semitone available upwards. I don't know how stable tuning would be if you routinely bend higher than that. The Standard bridge is nowhere near as advanced as a FR. clay-man
A Strat style tremolo only floats from how much spring tension you let off for the tremolo to angle off the guitar, meanwhile a floyd rose has a cavity under the trem for it to float in more room which allows bends up. You should be able to make a Standard float to some extent if you back off the springs.
Tcamponovo
You should be able to set it up to at least perform like a Strat style tremelo. Floating. However, I've never known ANY other bridge to perform like a Floyd Rose does.
amsdenj
I have a Fendet Strat Deluxe that has a Hipshot Tremsetter. Properly adjusted this thing works wonders. Bending a string does not cause other strings to go flat requiring additional bending pressure to overcome sag in the tremolo.
BryanMichael
Can the tremolo be replaced with something else if the piezo saddles are kept intact, or are their more electronics built into the actual bridge plate? For example, could a Floyd Rose "Rail Tail" bridge that is made to work with a standard Strat 6-hole mount be fitted to a Variax Standard? Just curious. cruisinon2
Unlikely. If the bridge is anything like the ones on the JTV 69, then the piezo leads run through a hole in the sustain block, and are connected to a small circuit board fixed to the opposite side. Yeah, that's what I was wondering - has anyone seen the underside of the standard bridge/tailpiece?
