CBTL
Hey, iv just recently bought a JTV and since tweeking my pink floyd patches noticed how fizzy the Hiwatt is with the drive anything past 40%. Has anyone else noticed this?
silverhead
You could try turning down the Master volume in the amp Edit pages (not the HD channel volume or device master volume).
spaceatl
do you have a clip?
CBTL
What's a clip??? It's not the guitar or master volume. It's when you crank the drive past 40%. I have only noticed it since monitoring through headphones and now i hear it without. It's really unpleasant like cheep transistor amp gain. offashead
Ohhh, my bad! I will do one tomorrow!!! Please do as I think I have the same problem. Not so bad on the mags but with the models on. This happens on all amp models after the drive goes past 40%. I have tried the edit master volume thing, I have tried through headphones and momitors, also through the line in on the BR80 with monitors, line out and headphones from the BR80 too. There seems to me like there is some kind of interference. I am going to try the guitar straight into the BR80 to eliminate the guitar. It might be a ground loop or something as the guitar seems very noisy when using the drive but not on clean or just a litle bit of drive???? spaceatl
just a shot in the dark as I cannot really make any judgments at this point....But have you guys clicked in the input pad? maybe your pickups are too close/hot or whatever and freaking the input ADC....again, just a random thought... Cheers I will look at that, care to explain a little further?  System set up? Talking of which. Why is there input 1 and input 2 same? Anyway I tried the guitar through the BR80 straight in, 1/4 inch jack and using a high-ish gain setting on the BR80 and I got some disturbance very similar to the POD, the BR80 was in battery mode so no ac. However there was still some signs of disturbance using the mags only, but not as much as the new 2.0 models. I swapped leads, still present, changed AC sockets, the same.  Hard to describe really. I play an open E/G let it ring, just as the chord is dying off, a fizzy transistor, television type loss of signal sound appears, I don't know but it feels like the guitar is live, you know like the old mic feeling you get when you touch it sometimes. I am very sensitive to static though, so it may be the guitar, the version 2.0 FWUP, me or something else?? But there is no such disturbance playing clean/ with a little dirt either through the Pod, the BR, or the monitors. Weird undeed.   PS, the computer is downstairs about 40 ft away from the studio come doss house, so I don't think its that, that may be causing the issue. offashead
Update. I have the guitar at at input 1. I changed input 2 to mic, then to same, then to something else. Now what does 1.5 m, 3,5 m, 770k, auto and all the rest of it mean? please. Anyway, I think it's just to much volume that's the problem, the problem being, at the moment I have a blocked right ear which should be sorted Tuesday, meaning I have to turn things up somewhat to compensate, meaning to much clipping through the Pod and recorder??? Â I haven't used the desktop Pod through an amp as yet.
silverhead
The Input Pad is a physical switch on the top surface of the HD500. It's meant to attenuate the input signal from a guitar with hot pickups. Try shifting the switch Up to the PAD position.
spaceatl
+1 silverhead....and....please do not take this negatively but RTFM...I know it is a pain, but you will get where you want to go a lot faster...

I have just tried out my fender and it does the same when the drive ( over 40%) or a distortion is on, so it can't be the Variax. These new Variax models (version 2.0) do seem to be way hotter though. Perhaps it's just a digital thing, I have used valve amps for the last century so digital stuff is rather alien.
CBTL
Mine is more like a cheap tansistor OD. It's not volume based as I play low level at home and it's defenatly nothing to do with the pad switch as it's happening on the spank model which has been slammed for its low output. When I get some time I need to go through the other amps and see if it's happening to them or just the Hiwatt. My set up is JTV 69 into hd500 via VDA, HD set to combo power amp, left line out into power engine 60.
Tony-N
Yeah, I have that same weird sound too on the Hiwatt. It actually sounds like digital distorsion, like something just gets overloaded. Too bad since that is one of my favourite amps. Don't hear it on the Xt though.
