What are my options for playing live with the hd500x?

Recommended Posts

So the gear i have:

Hd500x,

Peavey Vip-2 combo amp (does not have an fx loop, only guitar in)

Ibanez RGix27feqm.

I play mainly djent/metalcore stuff and ive had great success with the hd500x at home with my combo but im not close to playing live shows and am worried what my options will be. Ive read going straight to PA is a good option and if i have this choice thats what ill do but alot of the venues i may be playing at wont have that option on offer. I have seen some great deals on EVH 5150III 2x12's and can afford to get one of those but ive read that you need a power amp for this or something like that. Im kind of confused and need some advice as to what i can do/ what i need to buy.

Thanks

For me... I went from using my Vetta II 2x12 combo as a powered speaker setup (via the FX loop)... to using a set of Alto PA speakers. And the Altos were the best choice by far. I don't do the heavy that much, but the Altos do the trick for me.

So i can just plug the pod into any cabinet? such as this 2 x 12 http://www.bigmusicshop.com.au/evh-5150-iii-2x12-speaker-cab-ivory.html  and not have to have a power amp or anything else?

No, you can't use any passive Speaker (Cabinets/Box) directly plugged into a hd500x.

You need a Power-Amp & a Cabinet

or

an active Speaker (for example http://www.bigmusicshop.com.au/ PRO AUDIO & STUDIO -> Powered Speakers)

As cclement said: the Altos are a good choice (https://www.altoproaudio.com/products/ts212 / https://www.storedj.com.au/brands/alto-pro-audio)

Why would they not have that option?

To answer the question --- the Pod does not provide power.

You can run whatever type of system you want. Do you want a combo? A stack? A personal PA?

They all work. Just like what you were doing before you got the pod, you need speakers to hear, and something to power the speakers.

If there's a PA, then it's an option. And if there's no PA, then your singer is gonna have a rough night...;)

If you like the tone you're getting with hd500x at home, then you can connect direct to PA for the venues that have that option as long as there are stage monitors for the band to hear you, but if not, you just need to plug the hd500x into a powered monitor like an Alto TS112 so that your stage musicians can feel your sound and you can also hear yourself. That's what makes POD so versatile! Same tone, every location!

That's not true - if he likes what he is getting at home, he can't go direct to the PA because his Peavey amp is providing tone.

Oh yeah, his Peavey has no preamp in jack. My bad.
