i've had it happen twice now.. once, the other day, on my current 2.10 firmware and once previously (not sure what firmware i was on at that time)

I'm wondering has this happened much to any others?.. i do remember reading about it a while ago..

FYI- the helix was making sound but everything (knobs dials etc) was totally unresponsive.

This has happened to me also and It seems to be related to the connections of my external expression pedals. If you are using any, check their connections and try unplugging then reconnecting them. It won't restore a frozen Helix without cycling the power but it may prevent future crashes.

For me, it seems only to happen with certain patches. I haven't looked at it too rigorously, but I suspect it has something to do with the patch having been built under an older firmware. I deleted the last patch it happened with and it hasn't happened in a couple weeks.

I notice this often now. Never happened to me on 2.01 if that is worth mentioning.

Not saying it hasn't happened to anyone on that note. My personal experience: problems started with 2.10... Bad enough that I rolled it back to 2.01. Then 2.11 is a little better but still happens often enough when plugged into the computer.

If its worth noting: ports are good. This is on a relatively new alienware 17r4. Dedicated usb, no hub. The computer's sole purpose in life is running the helix, presonus rm32ai and other midi devices. It is as clean as it gets when it comes to a computer and optimized through the wahzoo. ;)

I even pulled the computer open the day it arrived and repasted the cpu and gpu with grizzly conductonaut and new fujilopy thermal pads.... The computer is beast! Can run 4.2Ghz oc for hours with a max temp of 62c with 1-2 degree core differential.

I believe the exact wording at user benchmark was: "This computer is in the 90th percentile and performing way above expectations when compared against other computers with the exact same hardware. This computer is likely operated by a technical master."

So it aint the setup on my end!!!! ;)

Just sayin. Lol

The best method to assure that these instances are on Line 6's known Helix issues list is for everyone having the problem to report it to Line 6 on a Support Ticket. The more reports they get from users, the more they will be able to aggregte the input, respond accordingly, and take appropriate corrective steps as the scenarios require.

The 1st 2 months after Helix's release, Line 6 already knew about this issue. They know it's still happening now too cause they test and read the forums.  They will find it, and eventually, fix it. But don't for one second think they don't already know it's happening. Yea pure speculation but If I had to guess It's a memory leak of sorts in the Helix OS.

I also just started running Editor and Reaper at the same time recently on my PC (Intel Core i7-6500, 8GB ram). The Helix Editor crashes quite often when I am changing presets from the Helix. I'm not going to open a ticket because I know 2.20 is right around the corner, and I believe the editor interfacing will be different. I am not even recording on Reaper at the time, just using the meter to adjust levels between presets/snaps.
