Buying 2nd Hand DT50 112 - anything to look out for...?

Hi everyone,

Long time Line 6 user here, and I have always been on the look-out to own a used DT series amp (any model might do).

I am talking with a local seller who is offering a DT50 112 and his POD HD500 for a very good price.  When I asked about the history of the amplifier, he basically said he had not used it in over a year and 1/2.  He also mentioned he has never connected his POD HD500 to it!  It sounded a bit odd, almost as if he was distancing himself from the amp (I mean, who would buy a POD HD and never use it?) so I decided to look at the history of the DT amps and I found a lot of negative things about reliability and early-production models, etc...

I was wondering if there were a certain list of things I could look for when looking at the amp as well as trying it out?  I realize there is a lot for me to read on this forum and the internet all at once - I didn't know if any seasoned users could give me a quick summary?

Thanks in advance...

When I bought a DT50HD, I called Line6 and provided them the serial number to find out if it was one of the amps that potentially had the transformer problem. There is no published list to refer to, and they will only answer your specific questions for a specific serial number. If it is only a year and half old, it won't have the transformer problem. I don't know about any other potential problems.

Thanks - I guess I could try to get the serial number and then get back to the seller. Sellers are always weird about giving out serial numbers for some reason...

There are so many negative reports I am reading now, I am shocked how unaware I was of the problems. I wonder if that is why the DT50 112 is gone now? This kind of reading really put dampened my interest. I might wait to see if I can find a DT25 instead. Much lighter as well...
