Phil_GMC
Hello folks, I hand an Amplifire 12 before I got the Helix LT. Have a listen to these two takes. The first one is the Helix preset "4D Love Of Steve" and the second one is the Amplifire preset "Infinite Lead". I think the Amplifire preset sounds more organic, how can I get the Helix one to sound closer to it? 4D Love Of Steve HELIX.mp3 Infinite Lead.mp3 Thanks for your )help :
bsd512
I totally agree with your opinion on them. Is it possible to post your 4D patch in order to see what you've already done? That may lead to better suggestions. And is it also possible what you had in the Amplifire 12 path and settings to get that tone - anything special? IR's or anything like that? I'm not familiar with it.
Phil_GMC
I can post my Helix patch but it is the factory "4D Love Of Steve" patch I can't post the AA patch though. If you have a Helix just find the 4D Love Of Steve patch and you have it ;)
NerdOfTheYear
Oh thank goodness! I was sure this was going to have a link to a video of Message In A Bottle...
bsd512
What the heck, I don't mind embarrassing myself. :) And I didn't see a 4D factory preset for this. So I just added a Red Squeeze to one of my existing patches. Not as good as your Amplifire 2 version, but I think the tone is a better starting point that your Helix version. https://soundcloud.com/user-22828532/x-79-love-vai/s-YUOlQ And please excuse my amateur playing and add to that, I didn't know this song until about 15 minutes ago. The feedback is from the Digitech Freqout pedal, I'm recording using headphones.
bsd512
Doh - I did find the patch, I thought 4D was the slot number. It's in Factory 2 slot 13D on the latest firmware (2.21). I still like mine better. :)

Phil_GMC
Thanks I'll look into that later on today. Excuse my amateur playing, the timing was off because I was reading the sustain on each. The Amplifire 12 patch is stock, no changes at all. Sorry I didn't give you the slot number. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to enter a search? Sometimes you can remember a part of the patch name but not where it is and you can go through your patches more than once and not spot it. Cheers
datacommando
I think the Amplifire preset sounds more organic, how can I get the Helix one to sound closer to it? Don't know if this will help or hinder, but back in December 2015 and after having the Helix for about a month, I managed to cobble a basic Steve Vai tone based on one I made for the POD HD500. It seemed a reasonable starting point and used it for jamming to Passion and Warfare and Sex and Religion backing tracks.Get it from here and experiment and edit much as you need. http://line6.com/customtone/tone/1501916/ It may well have undergone several revisions on my Helix, but the one above is where it started out. Have fun.
bradlake
Oh thank goodness! I was sure this was going to have a link to a video of Message In A Bottle... ...it would have been stated as a challenge or a bet if it had been that obsessive dude.... datacommando
What's the joke about Message In A Bottle? :huhOh dude! 😂 The Andy Summers MIAB tone challenge cropped up in a couple threads on here a short while back. The original poster seems to have been some sort of serial psycho-troll who managed to annoy and amuse in roughly equal amounts. He had tried the same routine on the Fractal and some other forums and got a similar result. He is possibly still out there irritating others. If you want a grin, check these. The threads are locked but you can read the replies here: http://line6.com/support/topic/25356-i-bet-the-helix-cannot-replicate-this-tone/?do=findComment&comment=194832 Then http://line6.com/support/topic/25846-i-bet-you-cannot-get-this-tone/ And here: http://line6.com/support/topic/25715-can-the-helix-replicate-this-tone/ Plus don't miss this one: https://forum.fractalaudio.com/threads/i-bet-you-cannot-match-this-tone.122475/ Laugh!🤣🤣😜 I thought my trousers would never dry! The kid was a jerk! (IMHO). Enjoy! But, when on here, don't ever ask for the " Massage in a Brothel" tone - That way madness lies!😎
