Ciffelenn
Hi! I'm having a very annoying issue that makes me totally unable to record anything that sounds good. Mainly i'm using a Mbox 2 mini and PT 8 LE and Pod Farm but i've tried Cubase 5 and a Line 6 UX1 aswell but the problem still remains. Now to the problem, i'm getting a dry signal out of my speakers when my guitar is plugged in to the soundcard, and it feels like all my inputs and outputs are set just fine, but when i turn on Pod Farm as a plugin in any of these DAW's i get a very bad signal in PF and i can't change the settings on the heads for the sounds AT ALL, i'm plugged in correctly, and i feel like i've done everything right but still it sounds HORRIBLE! I'm at the verge of getting depressed here cause i'm so eager to be recording and working with Pod Farm haha, i'm very new to the whole recording thing and i've gotten alot of tips and no one seems to know what to do so, PLEASE HELP! Triryche
What OS are you on?
Ciffelenn
Thanks for answering! I'm on a PC!
fflbrgst
Can you define what you mean by a 'very bad signal in PodFarm'? When you turn on the track monitoring (with no plug-in) in ProTools or Cubase, do you hear the guitar in your headphones/monitor and does it sound clear? If so, insert PF as a Plug-in to the track, but turn off all presets, turn everything off in it, you should hear the same clear sound, right? If not, you may need to reinstall PodFarm. If it is clear, start adding components into the sound chain in PF and see what happens.
Ciffelenn
Well it's all crunchy, buzzy and it sounds like it's in the other room if you know what i mean.It is clear! I don't really know how to turn the presets off tbh, i found a "presets" tab on PF but there's nothing about turning them off.
Ciffelenn
And no matter what knobs i turn nothing changes :/
Triryche
Are you trying to use PF standalone, plug-in, or both?
Ciffelenn
The plug-in, but i've tried the standalone and it does the same. I get the clean sound and this wierd unchangeable distortion at the same time.
fflbrgst
When you have Podfarm on, with whatever preset has been selected, you can see the sound chain below - fx, preamp, amp, speakers, etc. Click on any of them to adjust, change, or delete them from the chain. If you are unable to do this, then you may need to start fresh and delete all Line 6 files, then reinstall.
Ciffelenn
I can change everything on them but it's the sound that doesn't change when i turn the knobs!
fflbrgst
Can you post screen shots of your PodFarm mixer and PF plug-in screen? Not sure why you don't hear any changes, unless you are either 10 not monitoring the plug-in sound, 2) have multiple instances of PF running; 3) have a dual-sound selected and only hearing the one you are not 'seeing/adjusting'. hulbert
Hi, Forgive me in advance for questions about things you probably have tried and/or are doing, but just wanted to get an idea about what is happening and how you have things set up. Just to make sure I have an idea about what you are hearing, you are hearing a dry un-effected guitar sound, and also a nasty sound. Is this nasty sound just noise or does it give notes? Is it like an amplified guitar but with really nasty sound or is it like the dry signal is giving you the guitar sound and the nasty bit is just 'additional' noise - like if you had a cable plugged into an amp without it being connected to an instrument? Do you have the speakers plugged into the mbox outputs or another sound card? Also (as I don't have an mbox but a ux2 -so its similar to the ux1), can you tell me if you had the speakers plugged into the ux1 output or another soundcard? Sometimes people have pod farm outputting to another soundcard other than their line 6 device and it doesn't give them the proper sound. Hopefully its just something not set quite right in the audio settings between pod farm/daws and the mbox. If you are playing other sounds in the daws etc., are they sounding fine through the mbox? Concerning the dry signal. It would be worth having a look in Pod Farm in mixer view and seeing where the knob is set for 'D.I. Level'. If it isn't set fully left, try turning it there and see if that stops the dry signal being heard as this setting sets how much dry signal you hear (if you want some dry signal). Again, sorry for the questions. Hope you can get it fixed soon, God Bless, David
Ciffelenn
This is the mixer view on my Pod Farm (when i'm playing the connected guitar) in Pro Tools: http://i.imgur.com/Is97CJ0.jpg?1 Hey Hulbert! Thank you for your concern! Very appreciated! Yes i get the dry and nasty sound at the same time with alot of background noise (even when i have a noise gate on) and yes the DI in mixer view is turned all the way to the left! I play it and it gets the notes through but yeah, with this wierd tone! I've tried using Pod Farm with the UX1 and Cubase and also Mbox 2 Mini with Pro Tools and both give me the same problem! I got the standalone Gearbox to work properly though but when i put it in the DAW it doesn't work properly either, but since i've tried with two totally different soundcards and two different DAW's and nothing is working i'm starting to think it could be an issue with my PC or maybe i'm just doing some DAW/Sound control settings wrong (i don't think so though). All the other sounds that come out of the speakers connected to any of the soundcards sounds fine, it's just the guitar sound issue! And by the way i usually create a stereo audio track for it, that should be the correct way right? I've tried mono but it sounds practically the same! Thank you so much for your attention! Hopefully i get this up and going soon, i'm itching to start!
Triryche
How are you recording you guitar?
Ciffelenn
Well i haven't been able to record anything proper yet but i use Pod Farm as a plug-in in Pro Tools to record.
Triryche
How are you getting your guitar into PT? The plug-in by itself does not capture the guitar recording.
Ciffelenn
An Mono or Stereo audio track!
Triryche
What I am trying to ask, is what are you using as a recording interface to get your guitar signal into your DAW?
BigChas52
Try recording a dry track in Pro Tools, without the POD Farm Plug-In, using your MBox-2. Is it recording properly? Let's concentrate on one element at a time.
BigChas52
BTW, when recording, I would use the MBox ASIO drivers for source inputs
Ciffelenn
I can record the dry signal, that's safe to say! I'm using the Mbox USB family drivers!
Triryche
Now try launching an instance of POD Farm within PT on your dry track.
stnbc
Hello there Line 6 experts! What was the upshot of this? I have the exact same problem. I have tried every single way possible to record in Cubase 7 using a UX2 and Pod Farm either before Cubase or as a plug in with dry signals and I get horrible sounding recorded guitar tracks. Thanks!
fflbrgst
Looks like the OP never came back to answer after Oct 1, maybe he found the problem. stnbc - have you tried recording a dry track, then going back and adding PF as a plug-in on the track? (after it has been recorded, not when recording)
stnbc
Thanks Mike. Yup. I tried that as well. Still ends up sounding horrible. Plug in looks exactly like the one linked above as far a levels.
stnbc
So, nothing else I can try?
fflbrgst
On the plug-in you should be able to go in and delete components of whatever preset is selected. You can also select just 'parts' of PodFarm as a plug in (amp, mods, etc) - what have you tried?
stnbc
Dude, I just don't know what else to try. I can send a dry, semi-dry or wet signal, and they all sound horrible once recorded. I even dropped the output in the upper right of Pod Farm to half, and it is still a horrible signal being recorded. Dunno what to do. Anybody in or near Gainesville FL whom I can call or consult? fflbrgst
Let 's start again. Record your dry signal, no PF plugin on it. Play it back - it sounds like it should? Put the PF plugin on the track. Play it back - it now sounds bad? Go into the PF plug-in and deselect the components on whatever preset you have selected, one at a time, playing the track back each time. Do you notice anything different in the sound as you deselect each part of the patch (i.e. remove the distortion pedal, the amp sim, etc). If nothing changes with the sound when you do this, something is not set right somewhere. If you can post soundclips and screenshots, it woudl help us help you. Ciffelenn
Okay guys i figured it out, i just need to change the head in Pod Farm to "Line 6 Treadplate" and back and then it works, but i have to do that for every track everytime i open the DAW.. Here's a video of the problem i'm having (fast forward to 0:50 for details about it, unimportant chatter in the beginning) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgL1G6Z1STo Would love to see if there's any way to fix this issue! bsacco
I'm am having this issue as well. But i have not found a solution. Please advise.
jjRocker
It seems that the output level is too high. Go into the mixer and lower the output level about -18 dB. I have the same issue with pod farm 2 since I´ve changed my audio interface from my Toneport Di to Zoom UAC-2. In my case the issue appears only in stand alone mode. The plugin inside Cubase works fine. When I´ve used Pod Farm 2 with the Line 6 audio interface (Toneport DI) the mixer showed a +18db button but when I use it with the Zoom UAC-2 audio interface this button is not visible. Maybe the problem is that the +18dB button is turned on automatically ??? It seems so. It would be great if someone from Line 6 can confirm this bug with non Line6 audio interfaces.
