Variax & Firehawk: change guitar models from patch (JTV-69, JTV-89f)

Hi, I've got two JTV Variaxes (69 and 89f) and Firehawk 1500.  I play in a cover band and love the versatility of the setup.

Recently, I've notice that my varian doesn't consistently change models even when programmed to do so within a patch.  Weird thing is that tunings or other variax controls change.  

 

Yes, I have checked the patch to ensure that the Variax settings say "Control from Firehawk."

 

I find that pushing the toggle to change the guitar from model to magnetic and back fixes the issue, but I would really like to have the amp control things properly so that I don't have to remember how to do this. 

 

Anyone else experienced this?

The only time I had this issue was when I forgot to hit "save" after tweaking my Firehawk patch.
